Bad timing. After what happen today in Texas, they'll be using her as a poster child for what's wrong and the reason why, that young gal is really going to feel the hate now. And when it has nothing to do with it, yes we need to keep them out of the wrong hands but it's what's in the mind, it's not the object.

Another sad day, prayers are needed.

IDK what happened today in Texas? But you don't need an asult Riffle to go on a killing spree! Just a few Screws loose! Look at the Guy in Toronto, run over a bunch with a Rental Van :(
How could you possibly stop Stuff like this? Just part of life now a days :(

Sitting down, facing forward.
Deleted so I don't start a :censored: storm. Related to "take it". And that wasn't staged. She went back, right after graduating since students aren't allowed to open carry on campus but since she graduated she was no longer a student, then walked around the campus. I believe that is her gun and she knows how to use it, safety, trigger, sights and all.

We let the fridge defrost all night and got a puddle on the floor for our efforts. I plugged it back in at about 7AM and it has shut off already. The fridge is at 35 and the freezer is at 2 (gotta love remote kitchen thermometers) so I guess everything other than the defrost timer/thermostat/circuit/board/whatever is working fine. I did call a service company and they'll be here later today. Hopefully, I won't need to take out a second mortgage to pay him. Given the puddle size, and glad I wear slippers, I think the whole vent was pretty much frosted shut.

Update since this got cached by ECF updates...Apparently the whole evaporator coil was iced up. The thermostat and heater are fine and so is the circulator fan so it must be the "jazz board" (why do I see a scene from "Airplane") which he'll be back to install tomorrow.

Gave up on the idea of cloud backup. It ran for 18 hours and managed a whole 300GB of data completed. At that rate it would take over six days to do an initial full backup of just the desktop. Now I've got to figure out which NAS to get, what software to use and how much drive I can afford/stuff into the NAS. It sure as heck ain't going to be a USB drive, either.

If it will help, I have four of these 2TB drives and the one PNY SSD drive for the C: Windows drive. Not a bad price for the size and they have good transfer rates.

I installed them one at a time over the last couple years, so far never a problem with them. My desktop has run 24/7 for many years, only time it gets shut down is if the power goes out, but the drives do go into sleep mode, takes a few seconds for them to spin up and show the files once I click on them. I have a ton of video's, both family videos dating back to when I was a kid converted to digital and a bunch of movies and shows I like. With all this space I'm able to keep backup's of backup's, those family videos are something I never want to loose.

I'm looking at 4GB drives, minimum, since just the desktop is about 2GB of stuff and that deosn't include the video files from the surveillance system. If I throw in the two craptops and the Mrs. desktop (which she rarely uses) I'm over 3TB and then another 3TB for the video. Problem with the video is that I keep adding cameras and each one added means another .3 to .5 TB. I age them out at seven days or I'd already have a large RAID array full of video in the basement by now.

AWSUM, Like I mentioned earlier I've had good luck with the WD MyCloud which I'm been using for a few years now. This gives me my NAS for Data storage, Shares, Media server & FTP and the size drive to start within budget. 2TB to 8TB are available last I looked. With the USB 3.0 available on them, you can then attach 3.5 or 2.5 drives in a drive chassis and they can be had in 1-4 bays and up to 10 TB of drive space each using the JBOD protocol (Just a Bunch Of Disk), which works through the NAS authentication. That way you can pay as you play buy adding more disk as needed. My problem is I can't seem to delete my Old Backups....In case I need something I guess.

Anything that has to attach to a remote server is not in my list of things to get. It would be OK, I guess, if it didn't require an internet source to operate. My experience with iDrive has shown me that with the amount of data I have to transfer anything "cloud" related is just not going to meet my expectations or needs. I have no need to "share" my data with anyone outside of my local network so all the bells and whistles it has would be a waste anyway. If it works for you, great!

I'm interested in a simple, local only, backup solution that isn't USB based. USB drives just don't seem to have the durability or lifespan of a convention drive and my experiences with SSD make me leery of them as well. I originally thought I could get away without having that one that just failed recovered, but I realized, today, there was data on there that I actually need. Makes me wish for a DLT drive and some real backup software like Legato.

Awsum, I agree with you on using INTERNET (Cloud) backup. I don't go for putting my stuff out there either. The MyCloud (Name is kind of misleading) is a Local LAN connected appliance (Not a server). I have mine connected to my Linksys with a 1 gig wired connection and it can only be accessed by my local connected computers. The USB 3.0 connection (about 5 gig throughput) is between the MyCloud and my drive cage only (direct connect). It just adds additional storage that I can expand as I play. All the disk space is accessed from my local network only and access is by created shares on the MyCloud appliance and accessed either by mapped drives or UNC names within the backup software (embedded - OS) on the computers. I used to have my main desktop as the backup locations for all my other computers, but got tired of leaving it on all the time. The MyCloud allows me to turn if off once in awhile even though that doesn't happen as much as the wife would like. Also it allows me to schedule backups to run while I'm sleeping and home network usage is low. Just food for thought for you. Yea, I used to use Tape backup myself, but with the cost of hard drives, it wasn't worth the effort any more. I actually have one of my USB drives (I removed from a USB enclosure) in my drive cage (1 TB) until I can purchase another 4 or 8 TB drive. Problem I'm having is New Mod or New Hard drive..... Decisions, Decisions............ Just wish they would stop with the new stuff so I can get another drive.

From the reviews I read for Mycloud to operate it needs to connect to the internet. It won't work without that connection. The reviewer was quite definite about that but he could have been wrong I guess. Relying on USB or the quality of drive usually supplied as a USB device is really edgy. The ones I have are not SATA or IDE compatible from what I can see. I have a 6TB that I peeked inside of after it failed and found some bad/poor solder joints. I've got to get the iron out and see if I can get lucky, I can get most of that missing data back if I can get it to fire up again and if I do, the data gets moved onto a real drive and it'll get used for target practice.

Speaking of wrenching, awsum, you'll like this seeing we both drive the same thing. I walked by my Cherokee today and noticed something hanging down in the rear, thought it was an exhaust hanger. Drove it onto the grass so I could slide under it without having to jack it up and found the right gas tank strap had rusted through and broke in half, the left side isn't much better and the gas tank had dropped about an inch and a half.... Got one barely holding strap holding a full tank of fuel.... Yikes! Ordered new straps, picking them up in the morning, I'll be driving Mama's car to the parts store...

Mine is a rust bucket too, Willy. I keep putting off shocks and steering stabilizer. Even with Kroil it's going to be a big PITA complete with bleeding knuckles. I guess I should repair my compressor so I could use the impact gun, but it just isn't worth it for one job like this especially since my days of major wrenching are long gone.

Yea, unless they changed, the MyClouds are all Local network connected and no INTERNET required. The USB drives I've had were all WD units and they had either WD Green or Blue drives in them with an adapter that did the IDE or SATA conversion. Don't use them for target practice, even thou that would be fun. Re-purpose the disk patters for say Christmas ornaments or Wind chimes. But if data security is what your looking for then putting holes in the platters is the way to go. A drill makes less noise but just not as much fun.

Yeah, it's my beater, my junk hauler and back roader. I don't drive that much anymore, I use Mama's car for casual driving. My beater is great for hauling stuff to the dump, don't want to drive anything decent up there, and driving up in the state land through the branches and mud in 4WD. She's been a great beater, still runs good, but she's looking kind tired and worn these days, like me. :)

I've already done all the shocks, stabilizer, U-joint's, front wheel hubs, brakes and replaced all the brake lines. I even put a new oil pan on it last fall, only reason I replaced that is because it was leaking so bad it was making a mess out of the driveway and shop floor. After doing all that work I kind of hate to let it go now.
