I can relate to that guy, I have to give him credit, he had a dream and even though it didn't pan out like he wanted he stuck with it until it came true, that's passion.
In my early days after leaving the nest I wanted a motorcycle in the worst way, being young, unskilled and making minimum wage I had to scrounged used parts and saved every nickle I could. I got a cheap Honda 350, found used 12 over front forks to make it a chopper, used king/queen seat, used drag pipes, painted it myself and pieced it all together. I could barely afford the
insurance to keep it on the road, I paid by the month and some months didn't think I'd have enough to pay the
insurance bill but somehow did. There wasn't any money left over for a car so the bike was the only transportation I had, I drove it in the rain, thunderstorms and hail but I had my dream, for one summer.... I spent more time working on it to keep it running then I did riding it but I was happy.
(I couldn't even afford a haircut)
