in that case do some copy and pasting now and save for posterity ;)

also, saw the pdf in mike's google drive but when i right-clicked on it it was gone? :?:
I was able to grab a copy of both the Co-op post, and of Mike's PDF.

Nothing that I couldnt have figured out but BAP did have some really nice little tricks in his guide.

Did an experiment on some scrap Shapeways parts.

I believe I will use the little makeup sponge type q-tips for detail work, but for bulk painting I am just going to use my fingertips with some nitrile gloves. It worked well. The nitrile gloves held up, might have to changes gloves a few times on a large project, but it really did work nicely.

Now just to wait for the satin finish CA that DJ recommended, all I have is the gloss stuff, and I greatly prefer satin.

I didn't know the phone was WiFi stuff

Again, that depends on something...if you have a plain, old, "dumb" phone generally speaking WiFi won't do you any good at all. If you have a "smart" phone then WiFi is a great thing. I'm connected to my WiFi here at home all the time and it works out in the yard, almost the whole yard. I rarely have any significant data usage on my phone account because all the data goes through the WiFi, not the phone network. I use Comsumers Cellular 'cause I'm old and CHEAP!

Anyone here remember the weakness of those old Fat Daddy 510s?

Wasnt it the threads striping on the nylon bushing when you screwed the center pin in?

I am wanting to add a little more compression in the spring area (maybe a washer or two), and maybe a drop of CA to keep the threads from blowing out.

Or.... I might just use an Evolv 510, it would sit proud on top of the mod as I dont have the tooling to accurately countersink it plus I dont think the enclosure is thick enough for to countersink it level anyway, but a dry run it didnt look bad.

Never used the FD 510's, want to try a VariTube? I'll send you one. I've got both the Version 1 and the 2's, I don't like the 2's the 1's work better. The ones I have are smooth faced, I can send you both versions to check out. VT 510-V1 Connector - Self-adjusting Center Pin

I use tracfone for my smartphone, $28 for three months servie and any data, text or talk time get's rolled over, I've got tons of all of it because I seldom use it. But I do like you, use the home wifi.

I keep an old CB radio and antenna, just in case we should ever loose all other communications. KAEH1578 was my call sign back in the 70's. :)

I have CBs and ham stuff (KKD9092 and N2HVH), discone at home with mobile antennas as needed if on the road, if all else fails. Haven't renewed either license but in an emergency all bets are off anyway. I spend $20 a month on Consumers and could probably cut that back to $15 if I wanted to. The nice part with them is that if you go over your plan they just upgrade you to the next level, a few bucks, rather than charge ludicrous amounts for a few minutes or gigs. Worked really nicely when we were on vacation.

Appreciate the offer Slick, but this enclosure was printed specifically for the Fat Daddy so it fits perfectly. If I were to use something different I would use the Evolv one for its better spring tension and robustness.

Plus there is an element of impatience involved, I want to build this mod this weekend.

The sintered nylon from shapeways is great stuff, but it is difficult to tool with common hand tools. It is tough as hell, so regular cutting tools struggle with it, and rotary tools have a tendency to melt the nylon rather than accurately remove material. Especially when you are trying to remove a 1mm x 4mm x 14mm section accurately.

The good news is that I now have all 8 of my CREE 18650 flashlights fully charged. I use the old faithful Panny 18650B in them for the 3400 mAh since the lights themselves dont need high drain.

The bad news is that I need to clean my workbench off before I can even get started on Mod work, that alone will take at least an hour.

Mike, what version FD is that thing made for? I have a few hanging around and can spare one if you need it.
I have at least 2 of the appropriate FDs, dont remember the version. But thanks.

TBH, part of me is heavily leaning towards the Evolv 510. I just took apart a FD that has been in use a while and I can see why they developed issues over time. The o-ring inside by the spring deteriorates, especially with any juice seepage.

This is a BAP Lipo model that I modded to accept the large screen when they first came out for the DNA40. The insides of the FD was in pretty bad shape. The o-ring had almost turned to tar and gunked up the whole works inside.

Emergency 911 should still work when you don't have cell service
only if there's a signal ;) if the towers are down or overloaded a text might get through but no calls no matter the number dialed.

i was always tempted to check on this (911 service) ever since an acquaintance asked for one of my old cell phones years ago ;) supposedly, a phone that no longer has service with a carrier still gets you through to 911. she wanted it for utmost emergencies.

My car slid and stuck in the mud 1/2 mile up a "shortcut" in Western Maine during a chain lightning downpour in late afternoon. I had no service but 911 worked. She called a tow truck for me to haul the POS back onto the trail.
Late afternoon in the woods in a downpour with chain lightning striking all around me and swarms of mosquitoes. Tank top & shorts. No service. That sucked.
Tow truck driver didn't take AAA so he let me use his phone to call them.
Coolest tow truck driver in the world.
