I am searching for an alternative for Evolv Kick which doesnt require IMR batteries (i am having a stock
of non IMR batteries which i dont intend throwing away). Is there some?
What is with this IMR fuss, is it really a problem or it just loses the performance? If non IMR batteries are not damaging for it i would still buy it...
IMR batts are safer, and give a higher performance, you can use the Kick with non IMR batts, but its not ideal, for me I would only do it with bigger batts, 18650 and above.
There is the Kicklet, also from Evolv. Super T sells them. Same as the kick, just not a drop-in, it sits like an inline meter, in between the mod and atty.
Buck/Boost circuits draw large current pulses from the battery to achieve higher/lower voltages and regulation. Even if you have a 2 battery mod, the current pulses will still be at least double what they would be without a regulator. IMRs have higher max current ratings. All VV/VW mods use similar circuits, so even if the manufacturer says they are not required, they would still preform better with them. The best bet for non-IMR would be a stacked 18350 VV mod. If you have 18350 batteries that is.

You can't use stacked batteries with the Kick, as it draws from a 3.7v source. The only configuration for dual batteries and a Kick would be parallel. That'd be some awkward engineering. The Kick only operates with IMR batteries. Protected cells would read the high current draw as a short and they would shut off the current per the protection circuit.
Well i was using Lavatube and i must say there is nothing to complain from my side with non IMR 18350 batteries,
works quite nice so I will presume the Kick should perfrom ok. Afaik i know electronics, buck boost converter is the
only thing which is able to up/down voltage the battery so i was a bit surprised about IMR requirement.
