expensive mods

You know something about copyright, if you write it on the web/forum/chat lists and sign your name it is copyrighted. But it is still a vague area many times on forums. If EFC would say all post on ECF are copyrighted by the poster, then they are not public property but belong to the author. Yes anyone can read them, BUT to use them in any other form must get the posters permission. I have to do this with a list I own, the poster owns the post, no one else.

On buying mods, or higher end preforming PV's, I was doing the math and I spent easily way over $400 on different models that I did not like long term over the past 2 years, they are now sitting around unused. If I would have taken that $400 and invested in the best out there I would have a heck of a device. LOL I did just order a better preforming PV that has a lifetime warranty, so figured it was probably worth it. The cost was less than 2 starter packs I recently bought of KR808's. bnrk

By the logic of not copying (you call it stealing) then we should all only be driving Ford's - right? That we should only drink Coke? These were copyrighted and things that get copyrighted get copied all the time - without waiting for the copyrights to expire. All you have to do is to figure out how to do it slightly differently (hopefully improved) and bang you are in business.

I am not sure who invented the first ecig, but would everyone want to vape on that one. They figured out the mix, delivery system, etc. - did someone copy them???

I do not believe in copying - so do not get me wrong, but innovative improvements come from copying a basic idea and then improving on it. It is true with cars, cell phones, tvs, guitars, etc...

There is a lot of freeware out there on the web. You are not allowed to copy it and market it as is, but a lot of new software comes from something that was a neat freeware originally...

It just happens... The only thing that copyrighting protects is your configuration - not the basic concept...

If people didn't want or expect someone to use their idea or follow their instruction to make a mod, or a tank or do a review they probably wouldn't have written the instructions on how to do it in the first place. They'd probably become a supplier and sell them in the suppliers section. That's why they generally post, to help people. If the only think that's expected in return it a "Thanks Bob" Or "I got this idea from Bob and I'm doing this with his permission", is that such a huge thing?

I totally agree with the giving recognition thought, but there are just many that just do not think of that. I am not sure they do it purposely, but they do it...

Precisely! There are places where I truly try to be helpful and have no interest in financial gain. If I post something helpful and someone uses it to make some money -- great! I'm happy to be useful.

On the other hand, I have some ideas in the works that I believe will be gold mines, so I ain't sayin' nuthin' publicly until I have at least filed a provisional utility patent. Then, over the next year, if enough profits are netted to justify it, I'll file a full utility patent. Now -- if enough profits don't seem likely, what I'll do is publicize the idea so widely that it will be essentially public domain knowledge so that when the utility patent lapses, anyone who wants to can use that info without paying IP licensing fees. Then, if others make money on at, at least they'll be doing so on an equal playing field where they can compete on the basis of quality rather than some other basis.

Like many fairly new vapours I have spent an awful lot of money trying to find the perfect PV and juices. One thing has struck me above others and that is the price of many mods. If you take a tube mod it is a tube with a little circutry and a button to press, more or less the same as a torch or a childs battery operated toy. Why then is it I can buy a torch or toy for around ten dollars but a mod can easily cost up to $200! Now I am all for people making a decent profit but I cant help feeling more than a little ripped off sometimes. Today I recieved a little sister mod and I am the first to say that it works really really well. It is however made of a very flimsy plastic and a tiny wobbly switch so whilst it works well now I am not at all sure that it will last more than a few weeks at most. It has a bic lighter body but not as sturdy. I know it is a decent PV but in no other area do we pay $60+ for a bit of plastic and electronics. You can buy a cell phone for less and that is far more sturdy and has more complicated electronics. I realise they are not made in the same numbers as the other items but I still feel we are over paying for these items

I spent many hours/ days researching a PV that would suit my needs. I chose the Don and although it was more than I initially was going to spend I am very happy with the product and service. I read all too many posts here detailing people's efforts in obtaining the perfect vape. Most times it leads to the purchase of multiple starter kits before the user realizes a Mod is/ was the way to go. Price...maybe a little expensive but after experiencing the Don my expectations have been easily surpassed and I highly recommend looking at Mods as a first purchase.

Mods are mostly made by individuals and small companies, thus the high price of manual assembly and the time involved. They buy parts in small batches and don't get the quantity discount that companies who make them by the thousands enjoy. OTOH, large companies have no reason to severely undercut prices that are working in the marketplace, so they sell mods for many times the cost of production. Competition will change the price point, but someone has to be first. I see the big companies driving down prices somewhat, since they enjoy the benefits of mass production.

As far as design rights go, these would be ergonomic in nature rather than the design of the electronics. Every mod out there uses an off the shelf regulator, switches, battery holder, and atomizer connection. Yes, there are some unique in house parts, but basically they are assemblies of parts you can buy.

The look and feel, combined with externally adjustable features, creates a unique product that could be patented, IMO.

I was reading about another batt that is so small and flexible it will be able to be printed onto paper, cooooooool. I am a tech junkie. Then their is research into a solar cell that works just life a real leaf, uses photosynthethis (sp). So Ok i want a small 808 style fully powerful nano batt with solar charging capabilities using a leaf LOL bnrk

That is good, they also could note that each poster is the copyright owner of their own posts, which is legally true. If you write it, you own it as it is your own thoughts, ideas, interpretation, etc. bnrk

8? yrs ago researchers built a fully working "nano" cellphone scaled down to an ant. The wave of the future and not many realize it yet IMO.
