My cousin does this. He's always showing off his latest high-tech this or that, and expresses considerable disbelief that I'm happy with a basic eGo style single-voltage. And he always has to point out his newest topper (that never seems to work quite right during the demonstration for some reason).

His latest was his Provari. "So, when are you going to get one?" After looking at a device that I frankly considered ugly, I was tempted to reply, "Never. I have a sense of style." (Sorry, Provari users, I'm sure there are plenty that aren't fugly, it's just that his definitely was). Plus I'm a fan of thin, light, and basic black.

It's just plain silly to "brag" about one's PV, IMO!

I didn't buy a ProVari for a long time because I too did not find them visually appealing. They are growing on me though. I still very much enjoy long, thin, light too! And basic black, or silver or white. :)

That you son stood down is a reflection of a good upbringing..

Thank you! You would not be the first to say so, and it's my proudest accomplishment! It's a bit funny, normally, he's the one backing me off the ledge, but if there is one thing he is through and through, it's a mommas boy! And much to my joy, he happily will tell anyone he is. So if there is one thing you just never do in front of my extremely calm collected son, it's upset his mom! Then he becomes a whole new kinda kid! God I love that boy!:)

Snobbery in any form is a huge pet peeve of mine. And hipsters. Im likin this thread already though, lol
*Just wanna preface this post with this statement: everyone on this site/forum(s) has been amazing, and not the source of snobbery I'm noticing (it's a very small amount too), It's coming from my homeplace of AK, and various youtube video commments etc.
No hate in this forum everyone :rickroll:, I'm simply starting to notice alot of "hipstery" (hipsters are the one's who think they liked everything "before it was cool" fyi) snobbery coming from some "professional" or "veteran" vapers in my local vapeshops. I really do think it's amazing if you've been vaping for years even a decade or two, because your using the safer nicotine alternative, and way ahead of this growing subculture. However, I've seen alot of "experiencism" for lack of a better word lol . Meaning the professionals are hating on the people that are new to vaping, or hating on their equipment, whether they use cheaper cartos and egos shouldn't really matter to an "elite dripper" (Yes, I was new once, and used the cheapest possible vaping device possible). It's just been popping up around my town alot in the vape shops I've noticed, and there's almost a sense of "get out of my sub-culture, your making it less cool" feel.

I think we could all just a have a vape together, and share the love :vapor:; whether it's for technology, health, smelling better, or even the coolness of the growing culture. :2cool:
Aaaaaand here's a hot girl vaping because why not?

Elitism sucks. Your cat in the jar pic though, freakin hilarious
I haven't noticed any elitism. Okay, there might be a few but that's expected. Most of the experienced vapers are very helpful here. I've asked some pretty stupidly basic questions and they have always been answered respectfully. At vape shops, that's a different thing. I walked out of one shop because I was told they don't teach woman how to rebuild because they just don't understand.

Okay, now that I have finished laughing at your cat, I finished reading this post. Thats some 30's mentality crap, lol. If someone told my GF what you were told at that shop, She'd probably ask the guy to repeat himself and then deck him mid-sentence.:)

youre right, it is rude, and I also believe in karma, but I gotta tell ya, for a moment or two I believed that karma was going to come in the form of me or my 18 yr old over protective son wrapping my walker around his throat! Lol!

I wish I had been there.

An overprotective son is one thing. Someone like me takes it to a whole new level though.

I had a bad experience at a car dealership service department. Had a service tech who was very rude to me. Sure, a good cussing out would have been good enough for most people, but not me. I happen to work as a systems administrator for a company that is frequently hired to find and contact people in and for corporations, so I'm REALLY good at finding people.

Only took me a few minutes to find a personal email address of the owner. Sent a nice long email to him personally explaining my displeasure with his employees. Now, I am quite sure he was shocked to find that in his personal, non-business related email, but not as shocked as that service tech was when the owner went looking for the person responsible for him receiving nasty email at home. By 9AM the next morning their service manager had called me, promised to pick my car up and bring me a brand new Mustang to drive while mine was being worked on (It only had 11 miles on it when they dropped it off).

The way to get the attention of a big company is to go straight to the top. Find the owner, president, or CEO and contact them directly. Trust me, those people NEVER want to get direct complaints, and when they do they go looking for heads to chop off.

Lmao! While I would normally do a bit of both of what I wanted to do and what you did, since my stroke was caused by very high BP, I'm really trying to take a turn the other cheek approach nowadays. Normally I would have told everyone in the shop off, then done something much similar to you, I admit it does not take much for me to get wound up, and when I do, I tend not to come down for quite some time. I'm trying to teach myself to just walk away, but I gotta tell ya.....taking the moral highway isn't easy when you're someone as....um...high strung? as I am. But much like everything else has been since that fateful day of June 25, one day at a time! I'm thinking maybe next time, I'll give you a shout out though, sounds like you very much enjoy knocking people down a few pegs when needed! Lol! Thanks for sharing, I needed a good laugh!

*looks around for provari users* psst I don't think they look anything special either, especially not for that "special" price haha

Lol. I can understand that some are snobby for no real reason. The local b&m here hate to see me coming, as I'm a die hard drpper. They mostly cater to the tankers, which I do find inferior, however, to each their own, and aside from this or if I get a legit question, I do not express my opinion. I think the b&m's don't like to see me because once I was looking at the wire they were selling for 1$ per foot. I asked how they justified that since I purchase 100 foot for 7$. Also, I absolutely hate these punk kids out in public, blowing their huge clouds, in places like restaurants. I take that sort of behavior personally, as I firmly believe those activities make us all look like fools to the less than educated public. These kids doing this are just that, kids, which are typically known for doing dumb stuff. IMHO, blowing huge clouds out in the public, is disrespectful to all, including us fellow vapors, drawing negative attention to themselves. Dont get me wrong, like I said earlier, to each their own, but the extreme sport of cloud chasing should be kept behind closed doors. Just my thoughts on the matter, and just maybe a cause for some of the arrogance occurring associated with vaping.

I totally agree, ECF has amazing people and 99.99999999% of them are the nicest folks you'll ever meet. But even on this perfect site their are those that (passive aggressively) force their own opinions on those that don't even know what's going on in the vaping world yet. The few that do, have this very see-through "I know more than you, stop sharing your opinions" attitude about them. And to be honest it doesn't affect me in the slightest because this isn't the most important topic in the world (although potentially life saving), and not worth arguing over with those that share the same hobby. I don't want to point any fingers because I'm sure many have their bad days, but those that have been on this site for a long time seem very...territorial lol

i always recommend RBAs and RDAs to people that I think could handle it. if someone is happy with their setup, I might even recommend they get into rebuilding heads to save money and increase flavor.

even though I have a provari, i don't use it much anymore. i still recommend them to people, but offer cheaper alternatives as well.

It's interesting how the original post notes the local shops. I'm in Buffalo NY and when the first vap shop in the city limits opened, I went. The owner is such a douche bag.

He has some weird attitude about how awesome he and vaping are. Also acted like a 25 yr old and he was easily in his 50s. The prototypical "old guy" at the bar creeping out young women.

...um anyway. Sorry. He turned me off to wanting to do business with him. Vap shops are popping up all over Buffalo proper now, including one about 75 yards from his shop, I hope the trend does does not continue.

I just joined this site and am blown away at how nice and helpful everyone one is.

It's been a pleasure so far, I'm sure it will continue to be.

If thats the vape shop Im thinking about in Tonawanda NY they arent allowed to post here on ECF for an unrelated matter.

The owner has been charged with child abuse and molestation. If thats the person youre referring to then your instincts are probably spot on.

I like thin, light, and stainless, the hi-tech look. I also like the *reasons* for getting one of those mechanicals... but lord they're homely... I'm sure there must be some that aren't, but most of them look like cop flashlights, big, heavy, and awkward as the devil. It's true that quitting smoking will help me get the bod back into some kind of decent shape... but I hadn't really figured on weightlifting just to get a hit on my PV.... ;)

Lol...no they aren't all like that...I think the thinnest mechanical is 20mm diameter (most are 22mm+)...which is still pretty far off from the 9mm of a stick battery or even the 14mm of an ego...take a look at a simplicity or an ELA though when looking at mechanicals... (polished or satin stainless and very clean lines, no crazy etching)...may be what you're looking for...

Interesting thread, all 16 pages. First I've got to say, I've never encountered any snobbery/elitism in any of the 5 or 6 shops I frequent in Charlotte. On the contrary, those guys, mostly college aged or early twenties have been great to me. I've even set in on a few rebuilder's sessions and was treated like a king---even encouraged to sample some of the awesome rebuilt coils which were great (though I decided RBAs weren't for me). And yes, I'm an older guy, but I accept and don't judge younger people. Surprise, I've found they respond in kind! Now, as far as here on ECF, I have encountered some elitism--especially from those who think every vaper should be working on reducing their nicotine or quitting altogether. And then there is the Provari thing, which I don't get at all...

Wow. I was not aware. I wasn't referring to that shop, the shop I was speaking of is in the city of Buffalo on its north side. I haven't tried any of the suburban shops. I try to spend my money in the city due to Buffalo's economic situation, whch os rough but on the upswing in the last few years. Industry is coming in but we always need to bribe them with HUGE tax incentives. I digress...

Can I ask why they were banned? The name of the shop? I'll do some Goggle-ing but it you can share, that would be great.

Thanks

Wow... I looked those up, and I better win the lottery first!

I went looking for other mechanical mods, and I found one that's actually not much more than what I paid for the iTaste vv3... the Kamry K100 R-Scope ... quite petite, and looks like it could get the job done! And what I love about these things is being able to replace the batteries... that's just brilliant, IMO. It's only more costly than the iTaste *because* you buy the batteries separately, so that's very cost-effective (and actually I got a dirt-cheap price on the iTaste... even with the battery, this is cheaper than a lot of the prices I've seen for the iTaste vv3). I think when I get to the point of purchasing my first mechanical, this will most likely be the one, it's so inexpensive.

No snobbery here, but lots of poverty! How the heck did I afford cigarettes all those years!!!
