Hey, DSmooch, let me know when you hit a .5Ω chain vape with 7 second multipuffs and no tilting. :)

.5Ω is very close to the definition of a short and I personally like my face the way it is now :) so this is not something I'd be inclined to try.
I feel a bit unsafe as it is with the .7 but I sure respect the athletic side of vaping. Theoretically speaking though, even with a very good ss setup you'd need to rely on gravitational wicking to vaporize the amount of juice you're talking about here. I truly believe there's been a tremendous shift of expectation regarding the ceramic since the EHW. Personally, I had never dreamt of getting the kind of performance I just described and it has really made of the ss a thing of the past (for me that is, but I respect other opinions). So yeah, long live the EHW :toast:

Oh and yes when I have hand wrapped it would take a tank and a half before the wick was broken in filling in the gaps
Next time I go to the yard I'll pick up a torch and then do future ones the way you had suggested. (I did a damn good job with what I had on hand, but took over 15 minutes to get 'er on there real tight. Heating is of course much better.)

Very true.

A few pages back I posted a pic of a 220mm x 37mm 500 ss 4mm wide wick rolled rock solid. (I'll up it again) But even here capillary action won't quite do the trick, and tipping is still required when chain-vaping. The 1/8 CF-2000 requires no tipping at all, leading me to believe it's wicking capability is at least twice that of ss mesh.

Nonetheless, tipping does help the ceramic just a touch.

Do you guys think a liquid nitrogen wrap might work? Drop the wick in the liquid N, make coil slightly smaller than 1/8th then insert the wick which will be smaller from extreme cooling. as it expands it will press into the coil. Perhaps there is a cold wrap method. I can get the stuff locally for about $6 a litre I think and if your did a bunch at the same time would not cost too much.

I guess everything shrinks to some extent at those temperatures, buts what to say that the wire wont too the instant it touches it? for $6 its worth trying, also I didnt think you could buy liquid nitrogen....

Maybe have the coil already connected to the tank and slot the cold wick straight down ???

The school where I teach regularly gets the stuff for experiments so I could make inquiries as to how hard it is to get or just ask my chem teacher colleague to try one for me. I know engineering shops use it regularly to drop sleeves into engines to produce cold welds so perhaps not too hard to get hold of. I will ask tomorrow and let you know.

This may be far out in the ballpark, but worth a try ... maybe freeze the wick, quickly handwrap, throw into boiling pot of water?

Yeahs, nays, abstentions? ...

Would cost nothing to try it but I doubt you will get the extreme molecular change achieved with LN2 (-196 C). Also, these things are brittle so going from very cold to boiling might shatter your wick (have done this with bottles before). But hey mate, I don't what to discourage any experiments, go for it :).

Sounds like maybe you have too much airflow restriction going into the tank. Pull the fill hole plug if you haven't tried that. How tight in the bore is the 1/8 wick you are using? Needs to be a bit loose.
Ok... I really need to hit it for tonight. My ECF addiction is taking over... LOL

This sounds logical to me. First indication was when i tried to top-off the tank, juice came back out the fill hole, so air is not escaping quickly enough. But being a 'porous' wick, you would think it would allow the passage of liquid or gas, albeit slowly. The wick slides freely in and out of the wick hole but maybe when the liquid gets to a certain point, then capillary action seals up whatever gap was left.

Mine look dry too looking through the tank.
What happens when you fire?
Vapor coming up?
What is the PG/VG of your juice?
Where did you buy the wick? Link?

It's is dry. Coils are glowing, No vapor. Please see above.

Are you tilting it?

Yes, If I tilt it long enough, the juice will seep out the hole.

sounds like your wick is broken or cracked clean through. Sorry.

If it was cracked, wouldn't it be visible?

Yes, sir, you're right. :) I found those parameters sitting under a sign saying "last stop for sane vaping". That's why I chose them. If the ceramic can do that, or something close to that, then no one could fault it as a wick material. I have achieved those stats with ss mesh. (It was a 5/32" wick, mind you). And I find no need to go any further. Personally, I prefer .6Ω, and one of my favorite setups still incorporates fishstix.

maybe not. Only remove wick to check as last resort, tho; wouldn't want to break it by checking to see if its broken. I had one break in the wick hole region. I heard it, but couldn't see it.

I'm going to flip it end-over-end tonight and try again.

@Amirite

Seems like you could have a number of things going on. Just a suggestion, but sometimes a picture can really help identify the issue(s).

I'll take some pictures tonight. Everything looks as it should and it fires nicely when I wet the ceramic directly but it quickly dries out.

9/16"? Do you mean 9/64"?
I seem to have a knack for the same continuous error ... yes 9/64. Gotta buckle down on that one. In fact the machine shop which milled out my AGA-T2s called me and said 9/16 cannot be done after I left the same error on the paperwork ...

... wet the ceramic directly but it quickly dries out.
Maybe you need to leave it soaked in PG for a day or so? Longer break-in?

Vapdivrr, I have to say you were right. Several pages back I said I was skeptical about the vapor quality of big ticket mods and attys vs clones.
I just got a Legacy mechanical today and switching the AGA with 30g and 3/32 wick between the Legacy and Vamo is an insane difference.
I don't understand the science behind such a difference in flavor and consistency, other than the quality of the connecting materials. I'm even using the same battery. I now have the 1/8 wicks and the ribbon wire staring at me as I wait to get the RSST from a co-op, then I'll be able to try low res!
How are you liking the RSST vs. the real AC9?

Someone asked about freezing the wick on the other ceramic wick thread and Boden wrote a reply about the very limited ability of the ceramic material to shrink in cold temperatures

Keep an eye on the center screw it does move when you screw your delivery device on. Steve says he's got something in mind to stop/slow that down. I've had the Mini since it came out.

Thanks for the heads up! I did have to undo the center screw somewhat to make contact with the AGA, but I have everything on the atty so tight that I haven't had other issues yet. I got both the mini and standard tubes. I'm in love!
