Fiber is not wicking

I ordered some extra cartridges from Altsmoke for the 510 attys. The cathodes come filled with the pourous fiber that looks like a lightweight sponge material.

Ok so I drip onto it until it stops displacing any more fluid. The fiber sits all the way to the end of the tube so it will make contact with the atty mesh.

When I push the cart back on and smoke, I only get two big hits before it starts dry hitting. I remove the cart and drip again, but the now wet fiber only holds about two more drops before it forms a meniscus. I have to repeat over and over and over, every two hits. The fiber is wet and touching the atty mesh, but it just won't wick anything less than a pool of liquid at the top.

This is with 50/50 pg/vg mixes.

Why won't the fiber wick any better? All these carts do the same.

Thanks

There are many cart mods that provide better wicking. The blue foam mod. The pyramid tea bag mod. And probably quite a few others. (You can search the forum for more info.)

Personally, I can't stand carts because of the wicking issues and the burnt taste that occurs when they aren't wicking properly. I prefer to direct drip or use a bottom feeding mod. I use less juice and the taste is way better.

Try removing the cartridge filler and squeezing the liquid out with a paper towel. Soak the filler in water for a little while, then squeeze the water out with a paper towel. While the filler is still slightly damp, put the cart back together and refill. I it doesn't work, it would be a good cart to try a foam mod on. I only use foam and it works well with 100% VG.

The issue may also be the atty, so you might drip with that atty for a while to break it in. Good Luck!

alot of times I have seen this with a trapped air bubble. take a paperclip (straightened) and wiggle the foam around with it. I am not sure what carts you are using, but try to compress the foam a little and see if the liquid pools up where the gap is. you may only be saturating the top of the foam with nothing but airy foam under that.

Slide a toothpick or a straightened paper clip down the side of the cartridge.
That will allow for air to escape from the bottom as you are putting in the drops.

Wiggle it around as needed, although if done right, you shouldn't need to.

Another thing some people do is remove the filler material with tweezers and then put drops in.
And then slowly push the filler material back down into the cartridge.

Ah ok great. It was just trapped air. Taking it out and squishing it, filling it outside then pushing the fiber back in worked wonders. Thanks

Although I will say I'm kind of sick of these constant fills, but I hate my Ego-T on the other hand due to how weak the hits are. If I could have a LR 510 atty that had a task like the EgoT, that would be the perfect setup.

And sorry, sometimes my swype on my phone puts weird words in, like cathodes. Lol
