no worries casey sooner or later these switches will be fixed or sold separately. i'll learn to do it myself that way you don't have to do anything.
lordmage-

I'm sorry that you feel that way. We do try to carry switches, adapters, etc for everything we sell- we simply don't have the standard Protege switches in stock and available for sale at this moment. I'm sorry that you are inconvenienced by having to send the unit in for repairs, but we do everything in our power to diagnose what caused the switch to fail so that we can help prevent it from happening again. If the cause is the atomizer, we'll let you know. If it's the adapter, we can replace it. We want the unit to work perfectly just as much as you do.

As for the back up situation, I apologize if you feel that I told you to purchase a base kit. I misunderstood the question in your ticket when you sent:

"how much would it cost me for a new unit. i would rather have one to rotate out between repairs as it is i am with out a unit until it is repaired."

To which I responded:

"The base kit for the Protege costs $89.99.

Thank you,

Casey Pukl

Because that was what I thought you were asking. Again, I apologize for the trouble with the unit and the inconvenience of sending it back- but we're just trying to do our jobs here.

Man, was that uncalled for. Sure sounded like you wanted a price for another unit!

PS is a small company doing their best to keep custom made PVs and parts in stock. And Casey can't send you what she doesn't have so why would you take it out on her?

Frustration I can relate to but verbal abuse is uncalled for, especially from a mod.

For the record I've had 2 Protege switches fail myself, so I'm waiting for the mechanical switches to come in. Impatiently I'll admit, because I really like the PV. But I'm don't think verbally abusing anyone will get it to me any faster.

In the meantime I bought a PS PT and am waiting to see what the Prodigy V2 has to offer - besides the longest warranty in PV-land.

I finally got my replacement delrin switch after the first one burnt out a month ago and it too didn't work.
Then I noticed that the new switch was 1mm SHORTER than the old one, and simply wasn't making contact with the adapter.
So instead of sending it back to e-cigs.co.uk and waiting another month, I filed the button housing down so the adapter can screw in more.
I did a messy job and it looks bloody aweful, but gee it vapes beautifully now!

first off i said no worries and nothing was aimed at her sorry you felt that way.
To Brock my status here as a moderator was not part of this thread.
if it was then i would have made it known.
here i will quote my self for ya. and add my missed grammar.

no worries casey. (no big deal) sooner or later these switches will be fixed or sold separately. (my hope for the future) i'll learn to do it myself. that way you don't have to do anything. (again my hope for the future)
so where in that was a direct assault on casey or PS.
if you read it that way then i am sorry you read it that way.
yes i am frustrated about it but at this point i can either learn to do the repairs myself or they will one day have parts sold separately has i statd

I am posting this for informational purposes only for trouble shooting regarding the Protege. Steve and Casey's customer service has always been top notch to me, and to this day I still do not have my Protege working as it should, and I believe I know why.

Here is my story: When I first got my Protege, it didn't work right with my attys and I couldn't get any connection. The 510 adapter came wiggly so I sent it back to them and they repaired it. I had asked that it be tapped up a bit, but I do not know if it was. I have purchased nothing but true Joye 510 attys, most all from Puresmoker and about 25 from Electronic-Ash. When I got it back, it still was hit and miss and wasn't working correctly. Only one or two times did I experience it the way it should, but never any consistency with it. I have been frustrated beyond belief with it. I would push and push the switch and it was like I couldn't get a decent vape. When I could get a vape out of it it was weak and no throat hit. I said it HAS to be the switch. I sent the entire unit back with 2 of the Trust Fire batteries I was using. Steve said it's my batteries. He said he tried it out and the drop was huge within an hour. I since then got a multi meter and started testing my batteries and never on any of them did I find a HUGE drop, as he stated he had seen within an hour. Most all are testing of going down 1 volt per hour. I now have every single 14500 battery here via some helpful forum members. Steve said he would put on a new adapter and switch and sent my Protege back. I am now having the exact same problems and I cannot vape the thing. I have spent hours upon hours with another generous forum member helping me trouble shoot. The switch is not bad, the batteries are not bad. I truly believe it is still the adapter and it needs to be tapped higher to make a connection with my attys. I am unable to do this myself. I am waiting on Steve to get back to me and figure out if I need to send this adapter back and both 510 attys I am using to remedy this once and for all. Meanwhile, I also ordered a used Prodigy with a 510 adapter and the 18650 battery and it works like a CHARM. I love it. I just need my Protege to finally work! So what I am saying is it's not always the switch, it could be the adapter not making a proper connection to your atomizer.

To knock Casey or Steve's customer service, well, honestly, I haven't seen anything bad about it. You have to use their system and just do what they need.

I am hoping I can finally get to the bottom of this because when Steve had my whole unit he says it's working perfectly, but why does it not when it comes back to me using his atomizers I bought from him, so it's not like we are using different atomizers.

Like I said, I'm convinced it's the adapter not making a connection, not my 14500 batteries and not my charger, and not the switch.

Just because we get frustrated with a situation (which I am), doesn't mean the seller is bad or their customer service is bad. Unless someone doesn't answer your PM's, emails, or they won't help you, that is a different story, but Steve and Casey always help and always answer and will always take care of you. Patience is definitely a virtue here with these types of issues, but I fully believe they will and can be resolved.

For me the issue was my switch a friend was able to repair it for me.
from the beginning i tried very poorly to request a whole new derlen assembly with switch and all. that i could purchase seperatley from a base unit.
at this time they don't have that option so either i have to send my whole unit in for repair when it was the switch.
the attys worked and the batts worked. in my case the switch was shorted to perma on. so when the atty contacted the circuit it went hot. which told me i needed a new switch. i contacted steve by pm he referred me to the ticket system. casey was confused due to my poor grammar. it took some back and forth on both are parts. i got my answers even thou it was not the one i liked.
my comment about all suppliers who sell units.
i fell that if they sell a whole unit they should also sell each part. after all i was not asking for a free switch assembly i wanted to buy one and that way when my switch would go up i could swap it out and send the old one out for repair.
eliminating the need for a back up unit. yes i could order the mech switch but when my passthur arrives it is suggested to not use that switch. which was why i wanted to order a whole new assembly. in the end at this time they don't or won't for all i know sell the assembly i wanted. which leaves me with learn how to do it on my own and get replacement switches and do it myself.

let me make this clear in no time was i attacking PS or casey directly.
they only had to deal with my indirect frustration of the situation.
i also know that both casey and steve are the type to bring it to my attention should they fell like i attacked them. which as far as i know they have not contacted me or anyone else about it.

lordmage--

I think I understand where you're coming from better now. As you pointed out, your grammar could easily cause you to be misunderstood.

When you posted "no worries casey sooner or later these switches will be fixed or sold separately. i'll learn to do it myself that way you don't have to do anything." it certainly came across as an insult to Casey. I'll take you at your word that was not your intent.

As for parts, I agree that PS should do a better job of keeping them in stock, as well as keeping their web site updated. If I notice the end cap on my Protege starting to have trouble threading, I should be able to just buy one and replace it. The infamous switches should always be in stock.

That said, I've had 2 Protege switches fail in as many months and both were replaced by PS in under a week.

Hopefully the new mechanical switches will be more reliable, available soon, and they will stay stocked up on them.

I got me Protege a few days ago. Worked fine for 10 minutes - then died. Long story short...The casing is either machined too long or the suppled battery is too short. I put a small metal washer on negative end of the battery while in use in the Protege (but not on the charger) and it works flawlessly. PS recommended I extend the spring on the cap of the Protege but all that happened was the spring came apart from the cap and then had to re-install that. It doesn't matter if the washer touches the outer wall of the Protege as it is only the ground end of the battery. A battery a tad longer would work also if a person could find one.

They're made long enough to use a protected battery if you want. I stretched my spring a bit and then put in back into the end cap. Works great. :)
