Hey there all, so I have a bunch of 30 gauge kanthal... bought a nice 100' roll when i started rebuilding, then got more... and more, and i think i have some more coming... so im pretty close to swimming in 30 gauge... works for rebuilding kanger heads, though typically they run a little lower... but for building on the rm2, at 1.5 ohms its a decent sized micro... but i decided to try and twist some of it... twisted twisted and twisted away... much firmer and easier to work with than regular 30 gauge... built a nice 1 ohm micro on the rm2, forget how many wraps... just gave it a shot... thought it looked about right, measured it... boom... 1 ohm...

the vape is amazing, but i couldnt tell you about the flavor because i have a bit of a cold at the moment and i imagine its improved flavor but i cant tell... but its amazing aside from my lack of taste...

heres some pics of the set up, sorry about the poor pics, dont have that good of a camera for it... but thought id show it...

and its a nice even glow... from the middle out... awesome... and so so so easy to adjust... i love it!!!

This is the second time today I've heard the term twisting. Maybe you can explain how you twist it for those of us who are new to it.

to twist kanthal, take a length, fold in half, put a drill bit if you have a drill in the hole, then secure it sideways in the drill... use pliers to grab the two ends, pull tight and gently pull the trigger twisting the kanthal... this supposedly cuts the resistance in half... i dont buy in half, but it reduces the resistance, adds surface space... idk i like the results... i figured why not, i have so much 30 gauge kanthal, i want lower resistance more wraps, so instead of just buying a lower gauge, figure id give twisting a try...

Once I tried twisting I never went back. The difference was really amazing to me. Super quick way to improve the already simple micro coil, with the stuff you already have.

@vaperture; to get a quick "one off" of 6" of twisted wire by hand:

1.) take a foot of kanthal.
2.) fold it in half.
3.) take the folded end and hang the handle end of some tweezers from the loop.
4.) twist the loose ends of the other end together, maintain some tension to prevent knots, and twist the tweezers around.
5.) Keep twisting, it'll snap when ready more or less. Takes about 5 minutes.

The easier way to do this would be with a drill, but in a pinch is easy enough to do by hand, especially if you are only twisting enough wire for a single coil. I do it when watching tv.

You get lower resistance, which allows for more wraps, and the twisted wire has more surface area for yummy juice to vaporize off of.

Win!

twist until it snaps? hmmm seems i could have twisted farther...

I want to love this coil, have tried it several times using 30 gauge and also tried using 32 gauge.

My problem with this coil is:
Heat up time (especially long vs a standard micro coil at similar ohms)
Cool down time...take my finger off the device and hear the coil still vaping away!
Vapor production lacking, again compared to a micro coil at similar ohms

But it does look cool!

Different experiences. I dunno...:2cool:

I've got a couple RM2's, and one of them I'll try silly builds on. Notta thing is comparing to a .6Ω twisted 28g to me. Quick heat up. Impressive vapor. Flavor is amazeballs.

I think with any coil there is going to be some variables outside the coil, such as your airhole size, draw technique etc.

YMMV, but twisting is a pretty simple thing to try regardless.

id like to address funk as well but only in that the 30 gauge does take about a second to maybe 2 more to heat up compared to just plain ol untwisted 30 gauge...

simple solution rosco i hit the button a second sooner...

as far as the cool down time, i let go before i am done... right when i know its time to stop, let go... and finish the pull, or dont, and blow a o ring through the air hole... or squonk and see a funny look from other people as vapor just comes out the drip tip... lol...

vapor production i would have to disagree with you on good sir... hands down disagreement... because that is a micro coil of twisted 30 gauge, it is longer than my 1.5 micro coil of untwisted 30 gauge... so unless you are talking about different size kanthal than 30 gauge, i would have to flat out disagree... no way a 1 ohm 30 puts out more than a 1 ohm twisted 30...

thanks on the looks cool, wasnt doing it for looks, just wanted a 1 ohm micro coil that wasnt going to be just like 4 wraps (i dont really know that itd be 4 wraps, im just saying)

anywho im off to sleep, back to work tomorrow, and first day the reo goes to work with me... muahahahahaha... cant wait to show off my Precious

I put mine in a pin vice and put that in a drill, then just held the other end in my fingers and pulled it taught. Made for a nice tight wrap.
Also Wicked double twisted wire is just like a dual coil and is 1/2 the ohms. Two wires or coils at 1 ohm each equals .5 ohms

im not sure i have a pin vice, but something that goes straight into the drill does sound better.... im not doubting that its half, just seems like it doesnt half it... eh... its whatever i have a nice 1 ohm coil that is very nice... i just wish i wasnt sick... so i could enjoy it more...

Nice looking, I'm running some twisted 30 now.

thanks... just kinda got the urge to give it a try, its kinda been itching me for a bit... i think the big thing was when i finally settled on trying a 1 ohm coil and i looked at the 1.5 sitting in the rm2... it hit me... that 1 ohm micro coil was going to be tiny... barely anything... so i decided to go for it...

ok Wicked, you inspired me!

twisted 30 gauge .9ohm.jpg

Last few times I had done this build It came out around .7 ohms

Wrapped this one at .9 and I must admit the results are similar to yours. Very good flavor and vapor production.

at this resistance I do not notice the issues i referred to earlier. Also playing around with hemp fiber as wick instead of cotton, and think that also improved my results.

so I stand corrected

Tip of the Cap to ya! Fine work!

That is beautiful... again I cant tell flavor... im sick, and i wish i could... lol... it does take a second or two to heat up, and it does take a second to cool down... but i dont mind it, its easy to adjust to...

not gonna play with hemp fiber... maybe once i am out of the Army, but I have asked and looked but have found no definitive information stating that there is no ... from hemp, and some better wicking is not worth risk of me popping hot on a UA... even if I found something saying its treated and after treating there are no traces, nope... just in case it wasnt fully treated or treated properly... not gonna risk it...

I am stationed out in WA (wanting to hit up good ol pdib and see if i can get a sit down with him and have him teach me some of his masterful ways... lol) where they just legalized something... and the Army has put out that you better be careful, if you get second hand out in a park because of it being legal, and you pop hot on a UA you are still getting in trouble.

So very very very rigid on the stance, not worth even toying with the risk...

but I am off to work for a good while this time... so have a great day, i may check what i can on the app on my phone from time to time, but the threads with pictures wont open, maybe 1 or 2 but more than 1 or 2 wont open, so ill be skimming, and ill do an in depth once i get a break (after lunch :( )
