Well, I finally got my Flashy V4 from Focal, in Saturday mornings mail. I unboxed it (I paid an extra $ 1 to have it sent in a box for more protection during shipping from China, rather than just in a bubble wrap envelope) and liked the hard plastic tube that ShenRay sent it in (my first ShenRay product), very nice surprise.

I broke out my dial calipers to measure the (3) air inserts that came with my Fev4, they were 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.07mm, and without any air insert at all the threaded hole measured 2.7mm. I also got an extra short glass tank and a short metal tank, along with a copper looking round penny sized install tool for taking the chimney's off for cleaning. I also got (2) extra Phillips head post screws for tightening down the coil, and a short needle/pin for help with wrapping wire around silica wicking (but no wick or wire included) and in the parts package was also extra o-rings, (1) set.

The Fev4 I got was with the Long extension included, with the short setup already assembled and ready to vape (it had the 1.2mm air insert installed in the air chamber). I took it apart and gave it the ole' "Smell Test" and couldn't detect any smell at all (a First for me) and did not notice any sort of liquid or film anywhere on the atty, it seemed clean so I figured I would take the chance and not do my usual Ultra Sonic cleaning, but just fill it and vape it when I got to that point.

The machining on this ShenRay product seems very good indeed, no burrs anywhere, threading seems tight and sharply cut, no marks or scratches to be seen on metal or glass and the glass tubes seemed to be flame finished on the ends with no chips detected.

I took out the 1.2mm air insert after a few dry test draws (seemed a bit tight on the draw even by my standards) and installed the 1.5mm air insert for my first go around with this Flashy V4. I didn't start my first build till later that night.

I'll come back to do my thoughts on my first build later, I just wanted to get my first impressions on this ShenRay Fev V4 out to any that were thinking of getting one of their own and were on the fence as to whether this was a good choice or a waste of good money $$. So far, I'm impressed.

Well, it's been since Saturday @ 2145 Hrs. that I had finished my First Fev4 build with the first Fev I have ever had my hands on;

Coil=
3mm ID
6 wraps
28g NiChrome
Rayon Wick
0.93Ω
14.5-15 watts (Heat Flux of 200 @ 15 watts, so not a cold vape)

Feeder Tubes=
SS Mesh #400 (again, Thank You awsum)
1.5mm juice hole
7-8mm width
20-22mm length
(still fine tuning the length, though it was a lot easier than I initially thought it would be to make those feeder tubes)

Coil is directly between the posts with coil bottom even with the screw tops. Rayon shoulders fluffed up where they sit on top of the post screws. A few light wispy tails going down from there into the juice well at both ends.

O-Rings=
18x1mm o-rings (2) on 510 build base were a bit loose so I wound (1) wrap of dental floss around the under side of each o-ring and that tightened them up nicely (before I did that, it would come apart at the 510 base while attached to my Presa 100 26650 while holding the whole rig by the drip tip only. Now it doesn't, even if I gently shake it up and down). I had to wind (1) wrap of the same dental floss around the bottom of the drip tip o-ring as it would come off while performing the same test as above, now that problem is also solved.

I'm looking for some 18x1.2mm Duro 70' o-rings for replacements though, I've tried Oringsandmore and they have 17x1.2mm but not 18x1.2mm, Theoringstore and Oringsusa don't list that size. I have seen 18x1.2mm o-rings on FT but the composition isn't listed. FT's Fev3 was talked about in the FT forums as working better with those very same 18x1.2mm o-rings also. Maybe that's all I have to work with is FT's o-rings.

The short version with the frosted glass tank setup as it came from Focal holds 5ml of juice completely filling the fill ports, I've yet to try the Long version.

I have the 1.5mm air reducer installed and get a nice, slow, restricted MTL draw, just the way I like it for a relaxing vape. I did try the 2.07mm air reducer and got a nice restricted DL draw and at 2.7mm without any air reducer installed should be "Loose as a Goose" though I have yet to try that setup as "I'm not that kind of Guy".

There you have it. My impressions of the Focalecig Fev4 by ShenRay. I hope this helps someone. This Fev4 is the only RTA I have been using since I have gotten it Saturday, (3) days now. I love it !!

Try looking at SAE sized o-rings, conversion tables are on the net.

I just got done putting what seemed like a couple of hours into my v3 clone. I started out by switching to the 1.8 mm air port and drilled it out to 2.4 mm. Still wasn't happy with EScribe results. Made a coupe new mesh straws, really thin, really loose in their holes, That fixed it.
My coil is offset to the pin side. Oh, I forgot, I lowered the post about 1.5 mm or so.
Who's blaming who?....LOL

This is the first time in a while that I built with NiFe48. It's 26 gauge...about 7 wraps on 2.7 mm
45 watts preheat 1 sec, 11 punch, 35 watts.

After looking for 18 x 1.2mm or 45/64 x 3/64 or 0.7086 x 0.0472 (all same size) and coming up "Snake Eyes", I just went with what FT had to offer, 18 x 1.2mm Black of "Unknown Brand/Composition/Quality". Thanks dw for the tip to try MM to SAE sizing tables, as I hadn't even thought of doing that, "My Bad", been taking pain pills all day and my head is somewhere other than on my shoulders. I also ordered some extra glass and drip tips (hope I didn't screw that up) for the Hotcig Fev3 I ordered from FT.

I am Love'in this Focal Fev4 more and more . The flavor is "Right On", draw is "Smooth and Silent", and quite a bit of Vapor for 15 watts @ 0.93Ω and 50/50 juice. I might even get me another (or 2 or 3) ;). I wear Carpenter pants (comfortable) with (2) extra side pockets on the right leg, and that's where I carry my RTA/Mod. I pull it out of that pocket by the drip tip and have had zero problems pulling it out after I flossed my Fev4's O-Rings. My dentist would be proud .

Speaking of modding the FEV3, always wished it would fit in my Kato..

If you like the way the FEV vapes I suggest one of these, very nice range on AFC adjustment, from tight MTL, to slightly restricted lung. I know this is FEV thread, but it is pretty similar, and quite nice.

And a must have stealth setup, mine is an authentic, but Focal listed these. Ordered 3, 11% off use code "REBORN"

focalecig.com - Origen Little Tank 16mm Style Bottom Feeder 316SS Atomizer with Beauty Ring by ShenRay - Black

The flash VS has been a long time favorite, very similar flavor, capacity and it fits in my Microstick well worth the cost of the clone. Best small atty I've used to date.

A few month's back I made some Clapton wire using two strands of 29 gauge Resistherm wrapped with 34 gauge Kanthal but never used it till yesterday........into the FEV it went.
Ramp up was considerably slower than the twisted 28 gauge SS430 so I set preheat to 90 watts, still set at 30 watts, pretty good now.

I had measured the "Focal" Fev4 in Short Mode at 5ml (measured with a 5ml syringe) and have been enjoying that setup ever since I first fired it up Saturday night (the 22nd) at about 2145 hrs. Just now, I went down to re-fill and decided to try it in Long Mode (with the glass insert instead of the metal insert) and used the same 5ml syringe to measure just how much more I could get in. I was expecting to get what ya'll had posted in this thread about other Long Mode Fev's at about 8-8.5ml, I was surprised to find that I could actually get 10ml exactly in this "Focal" Fev4. That should do me as a "Stay at Home", sitting on the end table beside me while watching TV, relaxing vape. I have it setup with that same 28g Nichrome 3mm/6 wrap/Rayon wicked/SS Mesh #400 @ 7-8mm x 17mm (been tinkering with the Mesh length though) as I have since Day One and am Love'in it (about 30ml so far). I'm running in Power mode on my Presa 100 TC @ 17-25 watts (still experimenting with the power applied) and can chain vape 10 times in a row @ 25 watts (just to see if I get any dry hits, but not my usual style), and all is Perfect, No Dry Hits at all. All I can say is, WoW, this Fev is now my #1 RTA for at home with the above setup and the 1.5mm air restrictor installed and doing nice relaxing MTL draws (my Taifun GT-V2 is now for "out and about" usage).

Thank You Baseman for mentioning the Fev over in the Taifun thread some time ago, because if you hadn't, I would have forgotten all about this Great RTA. It suites me to the "T". Now I know why Jeremy raves about it so much. I have a Fev3 incoming from FT and am thinking about getting that Fev2 from "Focal" as well.

It's kind of funny, in Long Mode the Fev4 sitting on my Presa 100 TC looks more like it's sitting on my Presa 75 TC.

You didnt kill the thread, but it is Halloween :)

The FEV , to me, is the one of the best. What it lacks in elegance and beauty ( though I think its great looking ) it makes up in simple perfect performance.

Its addictive and I think something everyone should have in their collection. ITs so well built and will probably last a life time.

I Now totally agree, and like you, I think it is a Handsome looking RTA. The flavor is Top Shelf also.

I did forget about Halloween though, with all my Girls grown and married (good thing my wife covered for me as my Grand kids would have been really upset).

I also have a Fev3 incoming from FT and contemplating either a Fev2 from "Focal", and/or the "dD" from "Focal" (to go on my Presa 100 TC's as Baseman had suggested over on the Taifun thread). Also looking at getting a few more 26650 mod's (maybe just more Presa 100's, as that's all I reach for at home but only have (1) Silver and (1) Black ATM).

My "Shen Ray" Fev4 that I bought at Focalecig.com sits flush on my Presa 100 TC, and Presa 75 TC, no gap, so I would think that it would sit flush on the Reuleaux DNA 200, Reuleaux RX200, Joyetech VTC mini, and those with a shallow 510 pin throw. I just thought I'd put that bit of info in for those that might have and use those mod's and would like to try the "Shen Ray" Fev4 clone.

Good to hear that the ShenRay Fev4 is working well for you. I have one en route from Focal, which seems to have some software problems. The site is not usable for me. Can't use Paypal or credit cards and won't accept coupons.I can't even add items to my shopping cart at the moment.

Focal seems to be working OK right now, they might have been working (or updating) their site when you stopped in.

Focal recently had PayPal account suspended, was supposed to be back today, CC ability was added not long ago to cover for lack of PayPal. Not sure about the coupon codes, but yea that was broken as well. Sadly I think a little more may be going on with them behind the scene, Doris is also leaving them and going to work for Shenray. She did not get into the reason for her leaving but seemed to indicate she did not agree with some inner workings going on there.
