Well, I finally got my Flashy V4 from Focal, in Saturday mornings mail. I unboxed it (I paid an extra $ 1 to have it sent in a box for more protection during shipping from China, rather than just in a bubble wrap envelope) and liked the hard plastic tube that ShenRay sent it in (my first ShenRay product), very nice surprise.
I broke out my dial calipers to measure the (3) air inserts that came with my Fev4, they were 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.07mm, and without any air insert at all the threaded hole measured 2.7mm. I also got an extra short glass tank and a short metal tank, along with a copper looking round penny sized install tool for taking the chimney's off for cleaning. I also got (2) extra Phillips head post screws for tightening down the coil, and a short needle/pin for help with wrapping wire around silica wicking (but no wick or wire included) and in the parts package was also extra o-rings, (1) set.
The Fev4 I got was with the Long extension included, with the short setup already assembled and ready to vape (it had the 1.2mm air insert installed in the air chamber). I took it apart and gave it the ole' "Smell Test" and couldn't detect any smell at all (a First for me) and did not notice any sort of liquid or film anywhere on the atty, it seemed clean so I figured I would take the chance and not do my usual Ultra Sonic cleaning, but just fill it and vape it when I got to that point.
The machining on this ShenRay product seems very good indeed, no burrs anywhere, threading seems tight and sharply cut, no marks or scratches to be seen on metal or glass and the glass tubes seemed to be flame finished on the ends with no chips detected.
I took out the 1.2mm air insert after a few dry test draws (seemed a bit tight on the draw even by my standards) and installed the 1.5mm air insert for my first go around with this Flashy V4. I didn't start my first build till later that night.
I'll come back to do my thoughts on my first build later, I just wanted to get my first impressions on this ShenRay Fev V4 out to any that were thinking of getting one of their own and were on the fence as to whether this was a good choice or a waste of good money $$. So far, I'm impressed.
