this is big deck???? Mine would run dry so quick if I used that much cotton... mine must have a defective vacuum or something

Yes, it is a big deck V4.3 or V4 Plus as they call it.
It shouldn't run dry if packed correctly and the cotton/rayon is resting on the deck not too tight, yet not too loose. And your juice channels are clear of any wick material. IMO

The number of wraps really does make no difference. You see, I first cut two identical pieces of Kanthal based on Ohms per Inch table. I know my resistance before I wrap the coils. Then I weld non-resistant silver leads to both ends of my Kanthal. Then I wrap my coils knowing that at whatever diameter or number of wraps will not matter. I just target the shape of the coil and it's size. Some times I would wrap an extra turn or two of my non-resistant wire just to make my coil a little more sturdy. Not to mention that non-resistant wire leads are much easier to work with while attaching them under the screw posts or threading them through the post holes. Also, this NR-R-NR method completely eliminates a "Hot Leg" issue and non-resistant wires make much better electrical connection with the posts.
Example: 0.8mm x 0.1mm A1 Kanthal flat ribbon has 5.27 Ohms per Foot resistance. To make my build at 0.5 Ohm, I will need two 2.28 Inch pieces of Kanthal. (5.27 / 12 = 0.439 Ohm/Inch. 1.0 Ohm / 0.439 = 2.2779.... rounded to 2.28 Inches)
As you can see here, even if I made one of my coils at 6 wraps and the other in a single giant loop, their resistance is going to be identical. Of course, their inductance is different, but at DC 4.2 Volts the inductance could be ignored. I don't have to go into explanation of the benefits of using the Flat Ribbon wire versus Round wire, it is very obvious - Flat Ribbon has MUCH more surface area to vaporize e-liquid then Round wire at MUCH smaller size of wire. 0.8mm Flat Ribbon has its resistance and mass approximately of 28 Gauge wire, but its surface area is of a 24 or even 22 Gauge. Without all that extra current running through 22 Gauge to power it up.
I'm going to stop right there before I will begin to sound like infomercial.
I hope that answers your question.

Mike.

Yeah that was my bad, was looking at it from my phone so the NR wire looked like the ribbon wire twisted vertically :p What do you mean the NR wire makes better connections to the post btw? As in versus ribbon wire or better than regular round Kanthal too? (I understand the concept of NR-R-NR but I don't have the equipment to connect the wires or non resistance wire to connect so just curious ^_^)

anyone have any ideas why I might not be getting vacuum because I have to use about 1/8th of the amount of cotton as the above picture which didn't seem right to me anyway

Try screwing the chimney into the top then the top and chimney onto the base. Make sure the o-ring at the top of the chimney is good. I am running vertical coils and cotton and have no issues with leaks or dry hits. No cotton in the channels just around the coils and laying on the deck. Vertical coils positioned right over the air holes and ID of the coils the same as the ID of the air holes.

because I have the big deck version and appearantly you can't do it that way with this one... I tried that many times too before I stumped onto the YouTube video a few pages back in this thread.

Not true. You can run vertical coils on the original 4 the new 4 and the big fogger I am doing it.

Yeah something is wrong with the vacuum in mine I can't figure out why. I can put no cotton and it still won't gurgle it's like the draw doesn't effect the vacuum of the channels/chamber and is strictly drawing from the afc

If I close off the afc and suck it's air tight that would lead me to believe the orings are sealing properly on the chimney and at top and bottom of tank orings

It means that the electrons are traveling faster and more free, unrestricted when traveling through less resistive materials. Therefore make better connection with the posts.

Can someone with the big deck please post a picture of the size of the juice lanes with the chimney screwed down.... I have a feeling mine are way to small. I have to take 100 primer puffs to get a air bubbles to come out of mine and feed juice into the chamber

Stop looking for bubbles, that is a very inconsistent way to determine how your wick is working. If you are getting dry hits use less cotton, cut the tips at an angle so they are thinner in the channels, if you haven't had it leak out the afc add be dump all your juice out, your not close to using too little cotton.

so I should be putting wick in the channels with the large deck version and not just sitting the cotton over top of them?
