Cool idea Trucker, I like it!

Ay-yay-yay

Chinese "mystery metal" has reared it's ugly had again.

I wanted to save a few bucks and instead of buying these $2.74 Coil Jigs, I bough these $2.04 ones .
I noticed that when I was turning them, they felt different. The shavings, instead of making long spirals, were shedding off almost like when cutting cast iron. A lot different then the surgical stainless steel I buy at my local store. Although it doesn't rust and it is not attracted to magnet. Weird Mystery metal of China.

I worry that's going to happen on my drilled Lemo center posts: I'm sure they're just barely hanging on by a thread

Mr. BNEAT,

I have a question to the professional:

I'm fed-up dealing with Chinese "mystery metal"

I'd like to purchase some real 1/4 Stainless Steel Hex bar, but I can't decide. I want to get 316 but my lathe sais: "Get 304 instead or I won't be able to cut it for you".
My inner voice seems to agree with my lathe's opinion.

What is your opinion on that subject?

Thanks.

Mike.

I haven't really notice much of a difference in the two. Admittedly, I don't machine much 316, but I don't remember it being a problem

edit: seems to me like the 316 actually machined better than 304: less gummy, if you know what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean.:)
My main concern is that 316 is "Work Hardening" and has less straight, when 304 is not "Work Hardening" (easier to machine) but stronger and less corrosion resistant.

Here, I took one of the Chinese Coil Jigs and broke it by hand. How could anything of value be made out of this stuff?

I ended up buying 303. It is like cutting mild steel and half the price of 316. Maybe I'm wrong.

I saw some potential in this Erlkonigin like HuanYing tank. Potential for drilling that is. The stock airflow was too tight. The side four airholes were 1.0mm each, I drilled them 2.0mm each. The bore hole was 1.6mm, I drilled it 2.7mm. And the airtube had four 1.0mm holes on it's sides, I cut long slots on both sides.
Woo-a-la:

Now it has nice enough air supply for nickel build.

Hey, where are you guys getting your replacement tanks for the Fogger? I slipped on a patch of ice and somehow caught myself with my mod-hand! Didn't put a mark on anything but my thumb, but somehow broke the glass. (I seriously think my thumb is what broke it!)

I took the tank out of my v4.3, since I never use that one anyway, so I'm back up and running now, but I probably should buy some replacements.
