Thanks!

And yours are always cuter, Wader. :)

I'd show you what a full-crop looks like from this camera, but it'd be less than his eyeball and not break the style-sheet on the forum...

Here's a quarter-crop of the first one. This thing puts down a LOT of nice rich 14bit pixels:

[For the photogs out there: That's the Tamron 200-500 @ 500mm, f/8, 1/400sec handheld, ISO 400, spot metered]

Sorry, I looked too.
That's some nice glass. 2 questions: What body, and is that untouched?

Sorry - I had posted about the body in another thread. Should have noted it here. It's a shiny new 5DmkII, replacing my aging 20D. The glass I've had for years. '04 maybe? '05? Right when it first came out...

The image is just Lightroom's rendering of the Camera Raw with no retouch (there's no sidecar), and its scale (crop-and-scale in the second). So it's as close to straight out of the camera as I can reasonably get it. Lightroom 3.3 doesn't do the greatest down-sample to jpeg on earth, and that's a jpeg-medium-high, so there's a fair bit of DCT artifacting too.

Long answer. ;)

Oh Jeez...I just got an IPad for Christmas! What are the reasons you both chose not to go that route?

For me:

Expandability, standards, open development, flash, and I'm not all that big of an Apple fan. (But I come by it honestly, having worked there for years. ;) )

The Android tablets I have all have two USB ports, one or two SD/Micro SD memory slots, and accelerated HDMI video output. And their batteries are inherently replaceable without sending them back and paying some exorbitant fee.

That said - I've been tempted off-and-on by the iPad's shiny lure. If it accomplishes what you want to do with it, there's nothing inherently wrong with it!

Sheesh....squirrels, cameras, tabs......

Could we be any more OT?

Wait......forget I asked that!

You're the one who is off-topic, mister!

The topic is a discussion of squirrels, squirrel photos, cameras, and tabs. Not a discussion of the discussion of squirrels, squirrel photos, cameras, and tabs - nor the process of forgetting you asked.

Sheesh, the nerve of some people!

It wasn't terribly cheap new. Around $500 mid-1980s dollars. It's an Ibanez Destroyer, made in July 1985. It was 3x the price of a Squire/cheap Strat, but less than an American Strat when I bought it. Santana playing it at a store signing was what made my mind up on it. A fair bit outside of my budget at the time! :) Oh well, I didn't need that second computer (as it turns out) Cheap compared to your Gibson, though!

I've played it in a couple 80's cover bands as an "adult" (;)) - but hardly have any time for it anymore. One of those things I should sell (since they're worth more now than they were then!), but I just can't bring myself to part with it. Sooooo many angsty-memories stored in that fretboard!

It can actually play The Wall in its entirety without my even touching it, I think. Fretboard is darkened under several strings from the bloody blisters of teenaged-angst-playing-24-7... ;) I never bought anything better because that total 80's guitar just always felt so much like... home.

Lynn- I didn't think it was possible. But I now have a NEW found respect for you!! LOL!
PS- I bought my man a Warmoth bird's eye maple neck with abalone inlays for Christmas...:p

Very nice. I like the long answers, they help me learn more. I like the depth of field that you get from that lens. My favorite lens right now is my Canon 1.8 50mm, for two reasons . . . it's way cheaper than the 1.4 for no real noticeable difference, and the dof on it is amazing! After seeing your shots, I now know what my next long lens dream is. :)

A new 5D . . . how sweet! Congratulations! That's what I'll move to eventually. I've always loved taking pictures, but never had a "real" camera. I researched cameras and found the 5D was what I wanted, so I got a Rebel to try out first.

Hey Freaky, I've had the 1.8 50mm in my Amazon cart forever - debating whether to save up for the 1.4. So you like the cheap 1.8 alright? Any problems? How are the corners and detail?
