I posted a comment:

"In a statement, Democratic Senator Jeff Klein says quote:
The use of E-cigarettes and the contents of these items needs more study before they are made readily available to the general public."

How much more proof does Senator Klein need? There have been several studies, including testing by the FDA, which shows that e-cigarettes do NOT contain harmful levels of toxic chemicals or carcinogens. They have been on the market for several years world-wide, approximately three years in the U.S., with millions of users and there have been no reports of serious illness or injury attributed to e-cigarette use. On the contrary, users are vastly reporting improved health and surveys show that up to 80% of users switch completely and no longer smoke.

So, Senator Klein wishes to take e-cigarettes away from these people (and smokers who may switch) in order to test some lab rats, do limited human studies in a lab setting & THEN release it to the public? E-cigarettes have been undergoing "real-world" U.S. testing for 3 years now without adverse affects - what could be better proof than that?

"The Campaign for tobacco-Free Kids is also speaking out. Its concern, the product's marketing style may attract teen smokers. Advertisements boast flavors ranging from apple and blueberry to cotton candy and chocolate.

This is complete hogwash. First, why would a kid spend $35 - $160 in order to get "flavors?" They can get candy and soda in the same flavors for $1. If they want to smoke, they can get real cigarettes for free from friends and family or spend $5-$12 for a pack at the corner, rather than trying to get a credit card and buy them online. Kiosk owners refuse to sell under the age of 18 already.

Talk to any e-cigarette user & you'll find out the truth - those flavors appeal to ADULTS & over 75% use non-tobacco flavors. Nicorette comes in fruit chill, mint & cherry - are they targeting kids? No, the fact is adults want things to taste good, too.

Go to CASAA.org for the truth.

Watched with keen interest. Everyone concerned should send Senator Kline their comments/feelings even though his bill (AFAIK) was not passed by the NYS Senate. Email him at jdklein@senate.state.ny.us

The bill also includes steps to prohibit our (my) ancestors from selling tobacco products, at least to non-reservations residents. Why ?? Because NYS wants to get their greedy paws on the $5+ per pack tax - which is exactly the reason I quit after 50 years of 1-2 PPD analogs.

An astute reporter would have pointed out that Sen. Klein couldn't get enough Senate votes to pass his bill out of the Senate Health Committee, effectively killing the bill.

Yesterday, the NY Times had an article pointing out that the Democrats are desparately trying to hold on to control of the NY Senate, and that Republicans are hoping to win control of the Senate back in today's election. If Republicans regain control of the NY Senate, it is unlikely that Sen. Klein's bill will be considered by the Senate Heallth Committee next session. But even if Dems keep control, I think our testimony at the Senate Health Committee hearing in September has helped convince Chairman Duane not to consider the bill next session.
