I had posted something similar to this in another Avo thread, so I'll try to keep it brief. The Avo is actually forgiving IMO. I've toyed around with them for sometime and even though I can overstuff them with wick, it's relatively easy to fix: simply thin out the tails or use less wick. With regards to the tails: I've tried running the tails to the base of the tank, halfway down, and even to just below the deck. I prefer halfway down or to the base as it means less tilting and refilling; what can I say, I can be lazy. In addition, I've tried treating it like an RDA deck, i.e., rested the wick on the deck but did not push any down the JF holes. It works as well; however, it mean more faffing around with the atty tilting and turning upside down. And also don't forget that once the wick takes on liquid, it expands and usually chokes off the JF/AF holes. Creating a little gap will help air to travel back into the tank.

I lied.. that wasn't brief..

Updated the other thread as well.

I built a dual 24g 3mm 8 wrap 316L coils in the 24, wicked with Rayon and the tails trimmed to 50%. This time I removed the tank and made sure the wick went through the deck holes without any twist. Trimmed the tails to be just above the base and fluffed them all out. I will trim them up shorter but this was just a test. I filled the tank, primed the coils and let it all sit for a few minutes. The dual build is 0.2 ohms, put it on the Cuboid, set power mode to 50W and proceeded to vape.

It's Vaping like a champ! :vapor:

I basically chain vaped that tank dry, it didn't take long. I have the airflow open to3/4 on both sides and not a dry hit to be found. Plenty of vapor and flavor with no whistle. I must of had the wick twisted when going through the deck in my previous attempts. A five second pull and the wick is just starting to show dry around the edge but the core is still wet.

Thanks for all your help guys! I knew this had to be a wicking issue. I was just too thick to see it. The whistle is gone as well, probably the single coil position and that ceramic block causing that.

The AFC is still loose, but I can overlook that as long as the 24 vapes nicely!

I got my Avocado on Friday along with some Clapton and fused Clapton wire. Immediately put a 6 wrap of fused in and filled it up in single coil. Immediate reaction was the flavor on the Theorem was better but I wanted to give it time to break in. Started getting dry hits if I took successive vapes so worried I had it wicked to tight. Pulled the wick and rewicked with much less and was getting the same thing. I also saw my ohms jumping from 0.7 all the way to .95 from vape to vape. Begun thinking that was my issue so I disassembled the whole tank and soaked it, hoping one of my connections just needed a good cleaning. While putting it back together I kept telling myself to be careful with the peek insulator for the 510 pin. Of course as I was rinsing it it fell out of my hand and after three failed attempts to stop it in the sink it went down the drain. I was cursing myself considering I was staring at the drain stop and had literally told myself over and over to be careful. I have emailed GeekVape hoping that I dont have a useless atty here now. Searched all around the web and cant find a replacement anywhere. Multiple people on the GeekVape forum talking how they have run into the same issue but no clarity on how they resolved the situation.

With that said, I think my dry hits should be attributed to too high wattages. I have just recently begun using Clapton wire. First with the Theorem. For me, I found that 26/32 Clapton, 6 wraps 3mm ID, ohm around .75, I really enjoyed the flavor around 50 watts. I was trying to implement the same principle with the Avocado but now think my wattage was way too high for my builds and just burning it out quick. I kept thinking it was a wicking issue but in reality think it was just pumping too much power. Optimistic that I can get a new insulator and retry. From a single coil perspective though, from what I did experience, I prefer the Theorem for flavor. I will update accordingly once I, hopefully, get the Avocado up and running again.

@jocoxVT Bugger! Get a strainer dude! Well, I searched FT and they don't have the insulator either. That's a shame. Contact the vendor/manufacturer and say your tank was missing the insulator [emoji14]

No, don't. Bad karma..

Oh the venom I was spewing was bad. I literally read others running into the issue. I soaked in rubbing alcohol and was rinsing off. Holding it in my hand giving myself the pep talk about not dropping it only to watch it float out of my hand! It was painful. I have emailed GeekVape and 101Vape who I ordered the tank from hoping they may have an inside track to one as well.

In this event, shut the water off, and pull the sink drain trap apart. It is the s shaped part of the drain, under the sink. It will probably still be in the elbow of the drain. If you are already aware of this, please disregard.

I did just that. No luck. Since I was rinsing off the pieces there was water running and I think due to its weight/size it wasnt large enough to settle. It basically floated. I think I would have been fine if it were not for when it occurred before I could even shut the water off I was grasping in the sink and down the drain trying to catch it. Therefore, once the water was turned off it pushed it through. I know, moving forward, regardless of which atty, rinse off is going to occur in a separate bowl. I will soak in rubbing alcohol/vodka and then to another bowl of just water. It was a dumb move on my part that should have been avoided. To add insult to injury, I was holding the piece "tightly", obviously not tightly enough, in my hand. I rinsed it once and was about to call it a day until I said let me hit it one more time. Like I said, all could have been avoided. I knew the risks, gambled, and lost. I should have plugged the drain or rinsed in a separate container. I just hope that GeekVape replies to my email with a solution. I see on their forum where they say they are available for purchase from their accessories page but I cannot locate them. Regardless, as I expect others will eventually run into the same thing I will continue to update this as it progresses for the next person who is kicking themselves.

Oh yeah it definitely would have been. Sadly, besides when I am using the sink for something like this, it would never pass from an aesthetics perspective that my wife has for her kitchen. with that being said, moving forward I know not to risk it and just use the stopper or another container. If I recommend something like that to avoid more vape related issues she will instead probably just cut the vape budget out! Got to keep the boss happy.

That's awesome Troll. And your coils are solidly packed with Rayon I assume?

So your wicks are through the deck holes? Was not quite sure based on your post....

Circling back around, still havent "located" a spare insulator yet but I spoke with Customer Service at GeekVape USA today and they said they have seen a handful of people having the same issue and that they are waiting to hear back from China on pricing. They said once they do they will be able to be ordered from www.myvpro.com Said he is unsure of how they will be packaged (e.g., individually, in a spare parts bag with additional O-rings, etc) but that they should be popping up there shortly. Just wanted to pass this on to anyone who may run into the same issue. Once they do show up for purchase I will update accordingly but I got the sense that it should happen in the next handful of days (fingers crossed).

Very nice set up! I plan on buying the Avocado, couple questions... Whats the difference between single or dual coils? Also when wicking do you bring the cotton all the way to the bottom of the tank?

Dual vs Single

Cons: power consumption, juice consumption, hotter vape
Pros: arguably better flavor(?), most likely more cloudz, hotter vape

I don't bring the cotton all the way down. Its about 3-4mm down from the wick holes. The avocado is one of the harder RTAs I've had to wick.

You need to make sure that your cotton ends are trimmed and tapered or else they will expand once you install them under the deck, juiced up, and end up choking your wick leading to dry hits or burnt cotton taste.
