Just tried your method. 2.5 mm 27 g Kanthal at 0.9 ohms. Cotton Bacon V2 for wicking. Used a MAX VG juice (Nicoticket's Sure Bert). Took it up to 20W on the SX Mini. Wicks like a dream. No dry hits. Thank you.
Glad to hear it worked! Thanks for sharing with us!

Ha, using the GEM with the metal tank section (as I broke one of the glass tanks). So hard to determine how much is in there, not used to it (yet). But its at least relatively indestructible.

P.S. Yeah, the metal tank is upside down:)

I have the same P3 and wished Provape would make a tapered (22 mm) beauty ring , would make our GEMS look better on the P3

Oh, no tapered for me, thanks. I don't use the 22 mm tapered GEM ring either. A straight 21mm ring would be just fine.

Comments, not criticism:

S-p-a-c-e-d is generally better (a) for coil longevity, and, (b) for High VG/MaxVG.

The half and half tends to work for a while but with increasing gunk will be spoiled, bringing on the TP message quickly.

Also, on the DNA40 it pays to answer "Yes" if there is a resistance change after wicking. I never have this issue because I always check resistance "cold" on an external ohm meter; then double-check on the mod (DNA or SX).

Double wrapping around the posts is like wearing a belt and suspenders...not necessary. [emoji41]

Thank you dear. I have been making Ni200 coils for sometime now, testing it over all my atties ~ for some quirky reason I've not found any considerable difference between spaced and contact coils in any of them ~ over a length of time. Tho I know that 'spaced' is the norm.

Btw, this is the second time I'm doing Nickel on my GEMs. The first was a traditional spaced about a month back. I'm thru my second tank now with this build ~ no issues yet. And both performed similarly.

And yes brother, your point/s are well taken :)

As I said comment not criticism. I too have been building on Ni200 since the DNA 40 was released.

Fought the spaced/contact coil battle for some time. Ultimately gave in to the "fanboys" 'cause the arguments got to be BORING. [emoji17]

I use spaced now bcoz it's quicker and less gunk-able. [emoji41]

Yep, 100% agreed. Prolly mine's work in consonance b'coz (1)I use Rayon and (2)my e-liquids are less gunking.

wow, Q, when I try wrapping 28ga around the screw a full turn like you did then the screws stick up too much and short to the cap, I have to do a half wrap around the screw which also works fine for me but there much be differences in the tolerances
Ah, I understand that brother. But if you've noticed - I crank down my screws pretty hard. Using an oversized screwdriver at that :) Which, most likely, compresses the wire near flat. To the point that if I did any more - it'd've snapped. Nickel is pretty soft you know that.

maybe I should try it again, when it first happened I didn't even realize it was the screws, I thought the coil was too high. next one I'll try a full wrap and really cranking down on it to see :)
Cranking down?

Nah nah nah, you gotta CRANK IT UP!!!

Put the spare glass tank on. I read somewhere here, that one user had a leaking spare or something like that. Mine isn't leaking, but it has an imperfection on one of the edges, a small bump, a bulge, thus the top cap and driptip aren't sitting straight, but are in a narrow angle to the tank. No biggie, just saying.
Still waiting on those spares to pop up at Mark's site:)

Contact coils can work, it's just since there isn't an oxide layer with nickel one has to be a lot more careful to ensure that there isn't uneven heating due to gaps in the coil.

Also worth noting, if one builds with cotton rather than Qorax's rayon, I've found that shoulders as fluffy as Qorax used would lead to dry hits. Different wicking materials, different results - always worth keeping in mind when one switches it up. ;)

Finally got a build on the GEM. First shot out of the box w/6 wraps of 28ga Ni200 on a 2.5 coil master. Fired right up no shorts or dry hits (using Japanese cotton).

Easiest build I've done in a while! Thank god it BARELY came in above .05 ohm (lowest the SX mini can fire) because I don't see getting more than 6 spaced wraps in there comfortably without shorting.

I think the flavor profile is stronger than what I get with my Erls, not quite as much vape, but comparable.

My only complaint so far is the AFC spins way to easily. Would be nice it it had some resistance so it would stay in place.

If this is more resistant to leaks than my Erls it's definitely my new go to RBA!
