Pulled the deck out of the other GEM, the posi post is definitely noticeable higher than the neg like I thought (I noticed it while building the first one). Tolerances I'm sure are very small, but it didn't seem like your posi post was any higher than on both of mine...ionno

don't know which model you have but here is how mine sits

20150716_172607_zpsoeodow9g.jpg

with nothing mounted it shows as a short, the center pin is touching the hybrid adapter, it's only after the tank is snugged down that the center screw puts a little pressure on the center contact and creates a gap. the dry burn ring has more threading so it may be pushing it down enough but then when you mount the tank it's just a little too short. try turning that center screw out slightly should do it I think

Just a thought, When you push your deck into the chamber is there approx a 1mm gap that you can put your nail in to pull the deck back out, Or does it push rite in tite ?
There is a small gap to fit your nail in
There's supposed to be no gap at all. Yes you can wriggle in your nail, to pull it out, but that's b'coz of the natural bevels between the faces of two touching metal sub-parts.

Dems, that deck of yours is NOT sitting well. Pls wriggle it a bit, aligning the guiding groove with the stud, and then press it further. It should sit snug. Yours is not.

I have the stud and guide dead on, and they both sit like that (the picture is with the second one I haven't built yet). Perfectly aligned guide and notch, it won't budge in a fraction of a mm farther on either GEM *shrugs*

Slides in perfect and stops with the top of the notch making a flat surface with the bottom of the deck

Ps: Or, your coil is obstructing its movement inside the chamber. Another reason for it to short out soon - if not already.

My coil is inside the cup, no shorts after 6 tanks and three days

Not even a hundredth on the resistance

Remove the coil and see. That deck will sit flush. If not - you've a runaway GEM, which needs replacement.
Ps: The length of the stud is roughly the same as the width of the base plate of the deck. They marry perfectly.
