I had a month or 2 using TC and realy enjoyed it but then went back to Kanthal the last few months.

I may try the Sedge 26g kanthal build briefly to get to know the Gem then swith to Nickel / TC asap.
Any particular reason for the switch back, or it just kinda happened?

First build: 29G Kanthal, 6 wraps, 2mm ID, 1.2 ohm. Great flavor, no leaks, just outstanding. 1.2 ohm is a little lower than i usually go with 29G. I think 1.4 ohm with 29G would will be my next build.

I don't have a WAE but this will do just fine for now.

Used to use an ohm reader backed up by an old Nemi clone in 18350 mode. Lately been using one of these...

Whoa, that bad boy means business

What is the design on your desk, I saw that initially in your WAE2/GEM pic from last night and it piqued my curiosity.

I think from memory I was getting a little disheartened with how week the nickel coils seemed to be after being so used to using 26g / 24g kanthal.

I intended to have a break for a short while but never went back.

Definitely. The erlk had great flavor. After a tank, it will give me the burning hits after refill. The airflow was so fluttered on that thing too. Then it just leaked when ever it wanted to. The vapor from the drip tip was so hot that it burned my tongue.

The gem has 0 issues. The juices holes were a little restrictive and when I pulled my build out, it was a little too dry for my liking. Regardless of that, the hits never tasted burnt. I opened up the juice holes one drill bit size larger and the wick stays nice and juicy. This gem never leaks! Wooohoooo! That's a huge plus.

The gem looks so tiny in person compared to the pics on this thread. This is just a work of art. The machining is just so perfect. The threads are so immaculate. The flavor, mmmmmm, so so so great. Couldn't be any happier.

Exactly my experience with all 4 of the Erlks in my house, which I why I just placed an Order for the GEM :)

How have nickel/TC builds been coming for those of you that have it? Any of you with Sx Mini Ms (TC) got a good TC build for the GEM? What material/gauge/#wraps are you using and what resistance are you hitting?

I started with Ni 200 on the GEM on the SX M. (6 wraps of 30 awg tempered, if I recall correctly.) Just switched to my ADV that I know very well. I tend to have the ADV in a K4 on the VaporFlask at about 0.16-0.19, 430F, 18 Watts where it is deliciously outstanding.

On the SX I have it at 0.12 ohm, 430 F, 18.5 Joules..

The biggest difference I feel is with airflow: The K4 AFC is "fixed" unless I remove it from the VF, the AFC on the GEM is fully adjustable, without the need to remove it from the SX.

As I try to dial in the precise equivalent [flavor] I find I need to increase the Joules on the SX: 18.5, 19, 19.5...at 23 Joules with the GEM AFC reduced to about 2/3 I get essentially the same [flavor] vape. Though, at the moment I prefer the Kayfun 4 vape, likely because I am so used to it.

Still have much experimenting to do with the GEM.

ETA: The difference in top filling is huge. No JC control, unscrew the top cap, close/open the AFC (on the GEM), fill...Done.

The spit back, however, is nasty. More cotton, next build.

I've been running 28 gauge ni200, 4~5 wraps, 2.5mm coils that typically comes in between 0.055~0.07 ohms. Works great.

I have a Calix, but I'm still learning how to build the right coil for that set up. The complexity of the build and pitfalls of the design make me feel like I'm playing with Lemarchand's box.

First build.

26g Kanthal - 7 wraps - 2mm bore

Reads a fine 0.66 ohms on my VS RDNA40 with the dry burn ring.

Fires fine and nice vapor. I put it in the chanber and it reads "short"

I take back out of the chamber and it reads 0.66 ohms again.

Back in it reads short.

I looked close and my wires looked like they were sticking up and maybe touching the top of the chamber so I bent them down. Reads short still.

I thought maybe the 26g is pushing the screw up so swapped to 28g hoping to drop the screw.

0.9ohms on the dry burn - 0.03in the chamber ???

Confused ???
