On the topic of things coming apart. My 21mm ring won't come off the 510 base. Any suggestions?

Put it in the freezer for 1/2 to an hour. Though to the extent possible you should put only the base in "cold storage", not the entire atty.

This happened to me bout a month ago. None of my other methods worked: three different kinds of gloves. The freezer did the trick.

I take stuff apart at least once a month and clean everything in the Ultrasonic cleaner and then try not to crank down on it when it goes back together. That's probably my issue here, the top cap is tightening both ends and the the bottom should be tighter than the top from the begining.

Not sure if it would work on the bottom ring, but I've been successful just passing a torch across the tight spot. I open it with bare hands so it's not getting real hot.

I think i have to revisit my chimney/deck and take a serious look. B'coz, in a year of usage now I always thought the deck/chimney was one single - solid piece.

And yes, I had tried separating them during beta as well, no luck. My units do not come apart. I mean there's no way I can separate the chimney stem from the deck. At least that's what I came to understand until now ;) I'll try cranking them apart with extra force / effort next time - and see if it's two piece or one piece (as it seems now).

My chimney comes apart too, threads into the top of the vapor chamber (not the chamber from the deck), occasionally it will un-thread with the top cap. Now i check that the chimney piece is fully seated after I've removed the top cap, if it has come undone a little i screw it back down before replacing the top cap, haven't had a problem since.

Just got a GEM. I only have 26g kanthal right now. Will a 2.5mm 7 wraps or so fit in the chimney without shorts?

I found this coil restricted airflow too much in the chamber - the cup is just too small.

Ive been messing with simple coils of kanthal 26, 28, 30 and ni200 28 and 29. So far my favorite is a ~2.3ohms 30ga 2.4mm ID with 11wraps running at 15.5W wicked with rayon that I'm rocking right now. Airflow feels unrestricted and FP is nearly as good as any of the ni200 coils I've tried with better VP and longevity - Plus it was easy to build.

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought to try coil with that high of ohms. I just ordered some 28g kanthal & 28g Ti. In the meantime I may have to try the 28g ni I've got. I wonder if I use a 2mm bit & use 26g kanthal if that would work?

I wasn't aiming for it! Since I switched to regulated mods resistance doesn't concern me much [past verifying the build] when working with kanthal. I just wrap a coil to the dimensions I want. 7 or 8 wraps with 28 wasn't quite doing it for me, and I usually hate working with 30 but I figured "what the hell". Turns out the gem's tiny self-jigging deck is perfect for it. I think the biggest difference comes from being able to push the coil down into the cup.

It'll work. You might want to try using one less wrap then however many you think will fit in there and if you have trouble with shorts check the positive screw is cranked down.

is this coil too high? It reads 0.62 on the building base but when I put it in the chamber & assemble it the SX reads low resistance.

6-7 wraps of Nichrome over a 2.4mm bit keeps me around the 1 Ohm mark. And no, that was not a Ni200 build, I have another video on Ni for the Gem nonetheless.

Sorry Q, I got about 3 hours sleep yesterday, I meant to ask if that 1 Ohm build was kanthal. Wife doesn't have a TC mod so I'd be looking to build about a 1 Ohm coil with kanthal.

I've only done TC builds on the GEM so far, I use 28awg Ni200 about 7 wraps to hit around .5 for the SX mini M.

The screws aren't all the way down. As long as the coil is below the screws it not the problem, the tops of the screws is what hits the top of the chamber.
Thanks. That's exactly what was wrong. I only have 26g kanthal & lower right now & I had to super tighten the screw after your post.
Now the issue I am having is dry hits. Especially if I go above 18 watts. Do you think I have too much cotton? I have a pic posted a few comments above if anyone would like to weigh in. Thanks!

Do you space your coils with Ni on the GEM?

I do, but just barely! To be honest I'm not .... about the coils not touching since I've had no issues on the GEM with Shorts or hotspots. I just do 7 wraps on a 2.5mm coil master, pull it off, mount and go. I usually don't have to press the coils together to keep it from touching the sides...easiest build I've ever done.

One thing that's seemed to help me is I make sure to leave those "pockets" under the wick as empty as possible by not filling them in with cotton, I want liquid to be able pool in there, as long as the wicking channel is topped by enough wick there will be no flooding. I've also had much better results with rayon vs cotton in the Gem

I received my gem from a forum member here. I'm absolutely blown away by the flavor. I'll be keeping my place in line and getting a second one I think.

I find it very fiddly to build to be honest it's a pain. But the layoff is worth it. The tai fun gt2 has similar but not quite as good flavor and the tai fun is a wetter vape that drinks juice. Comparatively. It's very early on but my initial impressions are wow.

And for what it's worth I first built it and it was awful. I was really disappointed. Serious lack of flavor. Unrealized improbably used too much cotton and thinned it out. Perfect

Qorax your video was very helpful thank you.

Great atomizer so far.

By the way it's wicking 90/10 on a temp control nickel build without issue. 420 degrees F brigs out sweetness in marathon milkshake from Eco vape that's been missing in other tanks.

Just did a 2.5mm 7 wraps of 28g ni200 & it came out to be 0.082 on SXMM. All I can say is that I may keep the GEM for awhile . I had my doubts after my first 26g coil. Like mentioned earlier airflow was diminished as well as dry hits. But this ni coil is putting out good vapor & superb flavor. Can't wait to try some 28g kanthal & Ti I have on the way. I also used less wick in this one. Thanks for all of the tips guys:drool: the only thing that I am not completely happy with right now is that temp jumps around a good bit. Meaning one hit I take it will go up to 350f max but I can take another & it will hit the desired 420f.

I have been running this same build on a SX Mini M class the last week and its been performing incredible. For the most part the coils are not really spaced and some are touching however its working just fine.
