Last time I looked at PBusardo's website, there was a poll for people using both KFs and genesis-style RBAs. The result was 90% in favor of people who prefer the KF.

i took the poll too and i am willing to bet a good chunk of those people are also including the setup factor and things like less hassle, easier to carry, less prone to leakage on top of just taste, easier for a beginner to get up and running etc.. the actual question was kinda vague as to why you use one over the other and just asked what do you prefer to use.

but like everything tastes are different. just saw chicken and waffle ejuice - lol

Kayfuns win by default because any knuckle dragger can wrap a coil on it.

Examples of Genisis(original correct spelling) tanks.
They are NOT hard to do, and you don't need an engineering degree to figure it out.
I take pride in all my coil builds, and it has become an art for me.

If a Geni doesnt work for you, they you are just simply doing it wrong.

Enjoy!

I guess I'm a purist; but to me, it's not a genesis if you're not using a mesh wick. I'm not saying it won't work well, if you use silica, cotton, or whatever, in a device designed as a genesis. It may work great. But it's not a genny, IMO.

That makes no sense... lol. You're basically saying, when you buy a genny, it doesn't become a genny until you build it. With that in mind, what should I ask for next time I go shopping for a genny? :p

the r tank is considered a VIVI rebuildable using soft wicks. not the same at all.

even the better top coil versions of rebuildables based on designs like the R tank have side airholes. it just works better and less problems with airflow on the different mods, not all mods and apv's allow a good airflow from the 510, if they worked like it supped to it would be more popular as this type of tank is over a year old now.
and cannot perform on the same par as bottom feed/vacuum tanks like the kayfuns foggers and squapes.

topshelf version.

Very well...that gets back to my original question. The R-Tank and those with center air feed are not Gen-Style if I understand you correctly. Some, like the R-Tank can provide decent air flow through a center tube. Others may be capable of taking a mesh U-Wick, though perhaps awkwardly. I understand that the bottom coil units are a different animal.

You mention 'soft wick.' Must a Gen-Style necessarily accommodate a stiff wick? Also, must it have side feed air?

What is the make/model of the unit you have pictured?

The term "Gen-Style" and variants is thrown around a lot and I'm trying to determine what is and what isn't Gen-Style.

Thanks.

A truck isn't a truck without a load of something in the bed.

An xbox isn't an xbox unless you're using it to play games.

A sportbike isn't a sportbike unless you're dragging knee.

A cell phone isn't a cell phone unless your placing a phone call.

A coffee mug isn't a coffee mug unless it has coffee in it.

See how that works?

what he is saying is this - when the concept appeared we already had silica wick devices, many already in tank form, the person who brought the concept of genisis atomizers to the masses was the first to build the tank specifically around using the idea of a mesh wick, it wasnt someone that took a vivinova and said hey look i used a piece of window screen.. to use the genisi atomizer as it was intended to be used would mean a top deck over a tank and a piece of ss mesh, straight, dual, U, however.

the term genisis sytem was a complete setup, somewhere along the line many people said i can use my old genisis tanks with softwick also and thats whats happening now, it can be done very well but it defeats the idea of the system as it was originally intended. and i am sure with enough playing you could get mesh into almost any silica style tank like the R

what WAS originally considered a specific system HAS now become a generic term for any tank built the same way. and to most people no longer means a specific way to set that tank up. you used to say I have a geni system, now we say i have a geni tank with cotton.

What is the make/model of the unit you have pictured?

if it uses silica, to me its just a rebuildable CE2... most of you havent been around long enough to know what that is.
The VIVI is just the latest reincarnation of a CE2 carto.

I understand perfectly what he was saying. But again, to use the analogy of a truck.... A truck was designed to haul. If someone buys a truck and never uses it in such a manner is it still a truck?

Mind you, I'm not offended, I'm actually using mesh today and enjoying it. I just think the idea that an atomizer is defined only by it's wicking is kind of silly.

Humor me, if a person uses cotton in their "genesis" atomizer what should they call it?

Honestly most devices and attys I purchase are always compared to my main setup, which is a genny style atomizer. So far nothing has been able to compete with the flavor and consistency. I have tried dripping, rebuildable's (excluding the rm2 on a reo which is perfect), kayfun style, etc. I always go back to my genny style atty. 3-4 wraps of 28g or 30g and some 500 ss mesh provides the best results.

I didn't say it made sense. It's just my opinion. To me, genisis involves the build, as well as the device.

I've always thought of a VIVI-type as a device with a rebuildable/replaceable 'head' and without a deck (full diameter plate above the juice chamber). Can you point to some referred to as VIVI by the producer that don't have heads for the wick/coil assembly and perhaps have a deck?

I dunno. Call it what you want. Personally, I wouldn't go shopping for a genny unless I planned on using mesh in it. I'd get a Kayfun, Squape, or Taifun.

Sorry wasn't trying to add confusion, TO ME they are like a CE2 but rebuildable.
VIVI NOVA is just a brand name really.

To the best of my knowledge the first genisis tank was called the Genisis Line. which is configured differently than the genisis tanks we know today... but is consistent with the idea of using SS mesh as the wicking material.

Is not the vertical coil/wick, rather than horizontal, a defining characteristic of the genny?

People wire them horizontally, I know, but the post setup implies verticality is standard (irrespective of the interesting wick discussion).

No, the wick has to be vertical go down to the liquid; the part of the wick which is above the deck doesn't care if you bend it horizontal or not.

A rebuildable deck that sits atop a tank with a hole just large enough for a piece of Stainless steel mesh to pass through which you would wrap your coil around. characteristics that define Genesis style atomizers for me personally are: Dry hits, acrid flavor from stainless steel mesh, frustration.

Many people swear by Genesis designs, I swear I'll never own one again. the inherent flaw in the design is that your juice is below your coil and to get from the tank to the coil, it has to fight gravity. some people report success by using some method of getting cotton wick in there, others don't mind walking around taking a toot with their vaporizer inverted like they're drinking from a beer bottle.

I think there are far better designs out there these days.

My RSST wicked with ss rope and mesh has never once had a dry hit, the vapor and flavor are out of this world, and never once have I had to invert it to vape on it. I can chain vape it till I'm blue in the face.

Learn how to properly build one and you'd enjoy it.
