After reading this thread....i decided to ask my oldest one what he thought. I knew that his general attitude was that smoking was pretty YUCK and that he probably wouldn't ever start....So, I asked him.

If someone offered him a regular cigarette, would he try it? He said quite plainly..."no"

Then when I asked about the E-cig....he said "well I don't know, it still has nicotine in it, right?" I told him yes that they did but that there was an option for them to be nicotine free...and he said "well I don't see the point of using one, nicotine is bad for you and whatever else is in them cant be GOOD for you"

Im pretty sure he sees it as a product that is for current smokers to use as a healthier method or to help with quitting and not a cool new adult thing.

My opinion: I like the idea of getting their opinions and seeing the letters, but...

Lawmakers' opinion: Kids don't vote...movin' on.

It's sad but it is a reality that we can't just wish away *sigh*

Good point. But I think they do get heard. I think its important to also get non users letters in too- adutls who do not use a PV but support it.
They do vote.
)

I agree 100% great letter. We should try and get kids into interviews about them as well.

My kids love the e-cig (but have no desire to try it nor could they afford it not to mention supplies). My 14 year old has been on us all the time "when are you going to quit?" He loves the fact that we are using the e-cig instead of smoking. He says the house smells better and his friends do not tell him he smells like smoke anymore. He is elated and has no desired to try it with or without nicotine. He thinks the potential ban is crazy.

I should ask him to put it in his own words. These kids need to be heard.

I must say this is a very good post and letter, IMO. Tallgirl you have restored my faith in what you contribute. That other thread with the bickering back and forth over freedom of speech about child avatars was silly and had me wondering. This is quite a contrast to your posts in that thread. Ironic that thread probably gave you this idea? Good to see something good came out of that silly bickering thread where everyone was acting like children.

-edit-

And yes adults who do not smoke need to chime in too. I have not come across one non-smoker that even wanted to try the e-cig as fascinated as they are with it and how much they appreciate me using it instead of reeking like smoke. They never even ask to try it or where thye could get one.

Downside is that I don't think anything we do matters (including writing letters, etc.). but that is just my pessimistic view of the government and the masses that vote along with whatever.

This was posted first- so there goes that theory!
;)
Adults disagree sometimes too, not just children. Adults can also work it out and move on- as we did. I never played the freedom of speech card anyway- and stand by everything i said. {shrugs} I thought it was silly!

I think this is a great idea and I am all for getting minors opinions.

On the other hand, I know the FDA or who ever, will read this and then just immediately think, "kids are going to use e-cigarettes". I know it's ridiculous, but remember these people use shock value. They will say the stupidest things and people will eat it up.

Great letter by the way.

Unfortunately, worrying about teens getting e-cigs has little to nothing to do with the government's reason for banning e-cigs. It just sounds frilly and all. They don't want to lose tax dollars on analog cigs and they make tons of money on the stop-smoking crap churned out by the equally corrupt pharmaceutical industry. Here's a thought... Why not use all of the tobacco settlement money to fund accelerated research on e-cigs? Yeah, that's a laugh... The part of the tobacco settlement money that didn't line the pockets of our congress and the trial lawyers probably lined their pools. I'd pay close attention to the forum where do-it-yourself mods to e-cigs are discussed. Should come in real handy when these dirtbags screw us all over.

What a brilliant idea, and I have just the teenager at home to write such a letter(s.) My teen is 17 and has been trying to get me to quit smoking for over 10 years, she is very proud and happy that after 40 years I have have been analog free for 3 weeks now, with no desire whatsoever to smoke analogs again! I'll get right on this! Thanks for the great idea.
