what's the advantage of these? I'm a noob so I can't see why these are so great? Is it the price or what it's used for? 
Combination of factors.. price is certainly one. Also function. This is a dual port usb charger with a foldaway plug. Very handy to store in a backpack or pocket. Nearly everyone has usb chargable gadgets, they make good gifts. They can put away their dongles and save a socket.
Also, they produce the voltage we like for passthru, not all usb ports on a computer can do the same. If it shorts on the house power it would blow a fuse. If it shorts on the pc you could burn out the port more expensive to fix.
I think that about covers it. Am I missing anything?

Price is actually the 2nd best thing about this adapter. The 1st is the amperage it provides. I've looked and looked and looked and this is the ONLY AC/USB adapter I've found that supplies 2 amps. If you have a REAL direct connect USB passthru(like the PS USBPass or the Vaprlife VP PT - not one of those inexpensive Chinese jobbers), you need at least 1.5 amps to really have proper function. The AC/USB adapters you find in the stores(walmart, radio shack , etc...) only provide, at most(at least all the one's I've found), 1amp. This is usually insufficient to power the higher end direct connect PT's. All the one's I've tried have either, tripped, blown or just provided little to no true vapor production.
Also, as was mentioned before, for $3.90 shipped, this adapter is providing twice the amperage(current) for 1/5th to 1/10th the price of all of the comparable underpowered adapters I've seen or tried.
