11/2 #1
cary, we have now started the holiday shopping season
And yesterday, I noticed the first Christmas movie before I quickly changed channels.

Much too early for that stuff.
--- the story continues -- Part 5
It took nearly a week to tunnel out of the ship. Flannery found that only two of his crew were missing, and the rest eagerly rose to the challenge. They had not only created an exit tunnel, which came out about thirty feet downhill from the ship, but had carved several large rooms in the hillside and lighted them from the ship's still-functioning nuclear generators.
Within hours after he had reported completion of the tunnel, Doc was escorting dazed people out into the sunlight. All were wandering around the ship and hillside, rubbing their eyes, stretching, and wondering where they might be.
Flannery figured it was up to the Captain to explain to all these people and he needed some relaxation, so he wandered far from the crowd. He'd been exposed to the air long enough by now that he too was getting a bit giddy. He wondered if they'd ever acclimatize and get their senses back. Then he caught sight of Callahan dancing, sans tunic, and said, "Who cares?" He'd always had some secret fantasies about this gorgeous redhead and figured there was no time like the present to discover if they could be fulfilled. He crept up behind the dancing vision and tweaked her bottom. She let out a squeal, then a mischievous grin came on her face.
"Why, Sean Flannery. I di' not know you cared." She giggled. Flannery giggled. Everyone else was still yawning as Sean and Colleen ran and danced their way toward the forest.
The only one who took notice was Lt. James. "Looks like this could become a way of life," he mused as he looked around for some mischief to get up to himself.
Flannery and Callahan ran and laughed ‘til they made it to the opposite side of the clearing, where Callahan finally tackled Flannery and planted a kiss right on his impish grin.
"If an' I be givin' myself to ya, Sean Flannery, will you be makin' and honest woman of me?"
"Colleen Callahan, I'd like nothing better than to spend the rest of my days with you. However, I be of the Chaun race, and you're from Lepurra. Now what will they be callin' our offspring?"
"Probably Lepurra-Chauns. But who cares?"
He started to pull off his clothes when the sound of twigs snapping brought a small scream from Callahan. She yelled, "A giant!" and lit out toward the meadow as fast as she could.
Flannery was still trying to get his britches untangled when the monster jerked him off his feet.
"Help!" he screamed.
The giant was holding him face-to-face and grinning. She looked not unlike himself in features, but Holy Mother, she was
three times his size! He felt terrified and began kicking for his life.
"Let me down!" he shouted, and kicked and squirmed more.
The giant girl dropped him and he ran off through the forest, back toward the ship, but taking evasive maneuvers so as to not lead the giant directly to all his people. Considering the low gravity, he made hops and jumps that would have been impossible for a native. He stopped just long enough to see if the giant was chasing him. What he saw was that she was running in the opposite direction. He figured he better get back to the ship, make a full report, then see if he couldn't repair the refraction shields.
