I thought you might appreciate that story. Being the past president of the HOA (my wife is the current treasurer), I can appreciate the uphill battle they face... Something that previous boards didn't want to do was to round up dues increases (from, say $363 to $365) so that we could replenish our reserves more quickly. I made that argument a couple of times, but was always voted down. The current board now rues those decisions, but, then again, only two of the people were on the board when I was there. One of them actually remembered those discussions and told me privately that I was right, back then. Too bad that the rest of the current board is still of that philosophy... (not that I have much respect for them: from what I can see, my wife is about the only current board member with any sense--or willingness to do more than show up to the meeting, if that

@CountBoredom - Our company has taken on many an HOA with ginormous deferred maintenance issues and no money in reserves. You're probably already aware, but boards can raise dues up to 20% a year without a vote from the membership. Just something to chew on. G'Night!

Question for you HOA folks: Do you like being in a Home Owners Association? Doesn't it bother you to have someone tell you how/when to mow/water your lawn, whether or not you can park your car outside, what color your house must be, whether or not you can fly a flag, etc.? I would go down shooting before I would allow someone else to dictate those things to me.

@Amlowe . . . Without getting into all the details, I can so sympathize with Ya' about so many things, especially about the Holidays . . . Simply put, they and a lot of other special days were really - NOT NICE ! ! !
However, like most of the things that have happened in "My" Life - I really wouldn't want any of them to be different, because I wouldn't have learned what I learned - nor experienced what I have, both bad & good . . . AND - While I am still going through some rough times (especially physically, mentally, and emotionally), I look back and can appreciate everything I have experienced more since it has also made "Me" the person I have become Today too . . .
Now - Even though I have posted this before, I am going to provide a link to one of "My" Blog Post that "You" or anyone else for that matter - who is going through a rough time should read - It just might bring a little comfort if not solace . . .

That's a cool looking mod Shawn - shiny with the leather look (real or imitation?). What is it?
Never lived in and are with a HOA but living in military base housing probably comes close in many aspects - hopefully will not ever have to deal with that again. Definitely will never buy a place that falls under one.

Last night was another of too little sleep. One of the neighbors had people over (might have been other neighbors) and they were sitting outside yakking and not quietly.
Tempted to get out some of the power tools the next time.

...As proof that every bad in my life is balanced by an equal or greater good the cosmos has delivered to me an epic contest win, a heartwarming call with my son, renewed contact with a much missed friend, a fanboy moment on IG AND a curious message from a newer friend that put a smile on my face...none of this changes missing my mom but it does reaffirm to me that positivity and intentional focus WORK!
I tell people the exact same thing about my past...it is the things we survive and thrive from that shape who we are TODAY. Or at least it is what we gain from the experience that shapes us!
we were at the grocery store last night and they were sold out of basic things like salt and cooking oil...more correctly they were sold out of the ones that weren't stupidly EXPENSIVE...we don't need specialty salt at $5 a little bottle, just basic regular salt will do lol!

I dont know of your past, but I am happy to know the person it has made you!
