Ok....that is absolutely gorgeous!! Now.....how do we get one? or.....give me dummy proof directions. :)

Really it is beautiful!

Thanks! What I used is a 4.5"x4.5"x2.5" block of 'Maple Burl' from eBay. Took a 'sanding block' with 60 grit paper and roughed all sides down to about where I wanted it. Then sanded with 120 grit, wet with water on a piece of paper towel, let dry, repeat about 4 times... then I did the same with 220 grit and again with 400 grit. Then I wiped it down with 'mineral spirits' on a t-shirt scrap, did one more pass at 400 grit.

That got me to this.

I then loaded my drill press with a 1.5" Forstner bit and drilled my holes. I then did a few passes of 60, 120, 220 and finally 400 grit IN the holes to try to remove the burn rings from my bit (I had the speed set to fast)... otherwise I would have just done the 220 and 400 to get the grain to pop.

Then I cleaned with spirits, 400 grit final sanded and then one more spirit bath...

I applied 3 coats of Tung oil about 12 hours apart... each one applied with 600 grit paper for a couple minutes followed by a few minutes with a clean scrap of t-shirt. About 15 to 30 minutes later when dry to the touch, buffed with more clean t-shirt scraps.

All of that got me to this point.

I'm thinking I might wait to tomorrow and do one last coat (will apply with t-shirt scraps)... each coat makes it just a little bit glossier.

I know it is and it blends into my work desk so well!!

Dude, I'm so going to pick one of those up to keep in my tool box for when vaping in the shop :)

I like your round polka dot mouse pad too~! You could make a biz out of making single block "stands" for us your "friends" to buy~~!! We could do the tung oil parts ourselves to save you time so you could crank out more of them! (hint hint!)

Thanks! I like it too...

I have made a few that were sold and have a few more I need to get back to making... I've been swamped with real life.
