Thanks to all of you for helping me and answering my questions. I want to be aware so when I come across some difficulty, I can dig deep, take a big breath and say, "I can get through this, I can do this".

Tomorrow is a big, emotional day/night for me- I am a fifth grade teacher and my students' "graduation" is tomorrow and I am going to be a wreck (this year's children are the loveliest bunch of students I have had in a long time) . I charged both my units and filled them; fingers crossed I'll make it!

Thank for being supportive and helpful!

Honestly for me it was the habits that go with smoking and not the smoking itself that gave me trouble.

THe HABIT of the morning smoke. I handled it with a strong menthol vape first thing in the morning. 10 minutes and its done. :)

The After supper cig. Well I just make a ritual of a nice dessert vape after supper much as some people do brandy. Sort of a ritual thing.

Like I said earlier going outside to smoke. ok so why NOT go outside to vape now and then?

Most things I have found workarounds to. :)

First off congrats on making the switch.

I think a lot of people expect too much from vaping some times. Yes there are people who after their first vape never go back to smoking. There are others who vape a bit and smoke a bit then eventually work the smokes down or completely out. It really can depend on the person. There are other chemicals besides nicotine in smokes that are addictive after all.

My best advice is to not try and force it that's a good way to get frustrated and back to the stinkies. Just follow what you feel is right. There is no finish line here. If you think flavors, the amount of vapor or you equipment might need a change you're in a great place to hunt down ideas of what might be the next step for ya.

You took the first step and there is a lot to explore in vaping. Takes time to track down what really is "it" for you.

I Hope this helped,
Pancake

Congratulations! You're doing great!

I started vaping in 2009, but found it didn't fit the bill for me at the time, and went back to analogues. After 40 years at 1.5 pad, I quit on May 20th with HNRT patches, and have been vaping 0 nic since. I thought it would be harder for me, but I haven't started to step down off the patch yet. When I do, I'm hoping the vaping will suffice, as I've only had one really bad craving during the first few days. Good Luck!

Like many others have expressed here - I honestly believe it is the habit more than the love for cigarettes that gives most people trouble. I just started vaping about a week ago and smoked my "last cigarette" early in the morning this past Thursday.... I got some new juices in yesterday and was having a hard time getting used to them - I have a sweet tooth so I added sweetener to all of them and they were sitting a little heavy on my stomach.
I stopped and got me a pack of smokes and I have had a few out of the pack... I have some different juice coming tomorrow but I plan on finishing the pack off.... even if it takes me a week or two. If nothing else, it serves as a reminder of how bad analogs taste after vaping some yummy juice! Even the sugary sweet stuff I got is much better than the taste of a stinky. Hopefully I will be strong enough to avoid the cravings once they're all gone.

I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you don't ever desire another stinky again! Congrats on your decision to start vaping and welcome to ECF! I am also new here but the wonderful people that call this place home have made me feel like I belong! :)

3 Days in Went for a drive in the truck. Found a pack of cigs Ah lets see what this is like.

Lit up dragged in and the taste was shocking. Like trying to smoke on patches will another drag and that was it in the ashtray.

Obviously my DYI vapemix was working well and it tastes so much better, go figure. Vaping On :) not an experiment I want to try again
in a hurry.

Mixing in a small warm ceramic bowl give's a great sense of your result put in nic last after your happy with the aroma.
waiting for more flavors to arrive still with a modified tobacco theme

Yup, it's the ritual that bugged me. No desire for the cig, but it changed my daily habits and the brain programming kept trying to kick in.
That lasted a week or two, but I still didn't want a cig, just missed the routine.
Small stuff like taking a puff and just dropping it in my pocket .... the brain flipped ... your gunna catch on fire !!

I noticed last week that I was having cravings, but then I noticed that I was vaping a 12ml freebie I had received.
That was the problem.
I grabbed my vamo with my higher nic level, and all was fine.
So make sure your getting enough nicotine and your won't have the craving.

Also, not just vaping, this applies to anything (for me).
When I'm dying for chocolate for example, I just tell my brain ...later I'll have some, and it works.
The craving goes away because it thinks it will get it's satisfaction "later"
Kind of like talking to a kid

Keep going and breath easy.

I think I was one of the lucky ones, even though I started with a crappy Blu. The day I started vaping, I NEVER craved a cigarette. I smoked for 30+ years, starting at age 11! Smoked full flavor cowboy killers, red pack. I fell in love with the Cherry Crush, started hating my batteries, ordered some EGOS from China (who knew?) and struggled along with the darn Blu batteries and disposables for a MONTH before breaking down and ordering from an American supplier who shipped faster. I really LIKED the vaping, no smell, no holes, no ashes.
I started refilling cartos because I KNEW there was something that could make them last longer. Googled around, found ECF. I might have gone back to smoking (purely from Blu frustration) if I had not have found the good people and forum here.

However you quit smoking stinkies, be PROUD of yourself! You did it!

All wonderful stories in this thread, congrats to all of you. Takes many types of folk to make the world go round so it's only common sense that there would be many differences in our stories as well as similarities. Different strokes for different folks and who knows why, but that doesn't matter.

You well experience some moments of weakness but I know u well prevail if u want to. There are many little idiocyncrisys that are attached to the habit we know as smoking, u well have your own set of these on top of the similar ones as others have. You well defeat them one by one and find out its alot easier then u thought, because Vapeing is so similar to smoking it replaces most of them.

Your doing great OP, keep up the great work.

I made the switch and never looked back. That was 3 years ago and I still have no desire to smoke. I actually did try smoking a cig about a month after switching, but it tasted so bad that I knew I was done with them forever.

I had the same experience. Though I can't say 3 years. But I was a pack-a-day smoker for 20 years up until a month ago. I bought an e-cigarette, started vaping, and haven't looked back. Now real cigarette smoke bothers me too, if I'm too close. It doesn't trigger any "urge" to go back. It does trigger an urge to vape tho.

EDIT: Forgot to say, I've got have a carton of cigs in my closet at home. no urge to break into them.

Candik-- WHEW! My desires are from the habit too. Like this morning, on the way to work, I rolled down the window on my truck and tried to ash my vape. I am also constantly looking for an ashtray and a lighter. It's strange, I am noticing how much time and thought really went into smoking.

My cousin actually lit the end of his Njoy, I couldn't stop laughing.

I think its very important find a flavor you like. If you don't enjoy the vape, why should you do it?

Also, it's been my experience, along with others close to me, that after vaping for a week or so, analogs actually taste like crap.

Everyone is different, but my best advice to you is to keep vaping. If you have to have a cig, have one. But if possible, pick up that vape and vape the crap out of it. Also, if you combine the too, be careful of over-nic'ing. You may get lightheaded, get a headache, or even feel nauseous.

This early in the game, I wouldn't worry too much about "going back." Concentrate on stick more with vaping, and hopefully the analogs will just go away. Make sure you have a flavor you like and the nicotine level of your juice is strong enough. Be sure to hold it in your mouth a bit before inhaling into lungs and/or exhaling.

Good luck, I hope you are successful with kicking the analog habit. You couldnt pay me to smoke a cigarette right now. I was a one-pack-every-other-day smoker for 20+ years. I'm done smoking.

LMFAO! Too funny! I would have been milking that one for a while teasing him for my own pleasure! But I'm mean like that! Of course it won't be nearly as funny when I do that...

Yeah, we are both in construction, so breaking stones is a given. It got milked for a long time.

About to take the leap myself. Unlike past attempts I'm not fearing this time after reading so many other people having had success. My Provari will be here in the next few days and I'm hoping I never look back!

Your comment reminded me of how I switched to vaping.

I had encountered ecigs (aside from disposable cigalikes) for the first time a few months back. I was skeptical because I've tried to quit before and I didn't think anything could take the place of smoking. Fast forward to 4 or 5 weeks ago, I had a terrible persistent smoker's cough, and alternatives were starting to look very interesting.
I found ECF and spent a week or so reading other's quit stories and experiences. Hearing real smokers who share so many ubiqitous experiences talk about their own journey, whether days or years, really let me see myself quitting too. And that's a first, even including when I had quit cold turkey before.

You're already in the mindset to make it work, and I know you will do it. Welcome aboard!
