Unless it is my VTR that is the problem.

I did order a Nemesis and a KFL since I have heard they are the easiest to rebuild. (Of course, I heard that about PT's as well)

Nope the protanks are not the easiest to build at all; they are not real rebuildables;

When you get the kayfun, you can use the extender tube on your VTR and set up the kayfun on the VTR;

AFTER everything works out on the VTR where you are protected, and you can measure ohms, then you should try it on the nemesis.

I hope you included a couple fuses with your nemesis.

vape on, and vape safe.

Got 3 extra fuses

Don't buy into - Its to hard - this is the Easy way out in most situations in life and a cop out.

I'm Sixty, beat to hell and worn out. I have arthritis in both hands and cant even make a fist any more. Now with weight loss am down to 118lbs and still have to compete with guys 1/3rd my age to keep my 12hr a day Labor position.

If this beat up old man can do it anyone can learn to do it. It is a simple case of taking your time and learning each step along the way. No different than learning a new job.

*Side note:
Assuming you can whip the Kayfun wick/coil into submission - You should love the results. I've got 5 running on mechanical Mods, mostly Nemesis, and they Rock!

Are you getting better flavor with the Kayfun/nemesis combo than "stock" devices?

I know the question wasn't directed at me...

The Kayfun's design does two things, first it concentrates airflow directly on the coil, second, it has a compact vacuum chamber enclosing the coil. What this does for the vape is outstanding. The direct (adjustable) airflow produces a lot of vapor, while the vacuum chamber ensures that the wick is kept saturated, which gives you lots of flavor.

I won't go so far as to say that it's a revolutionary design...but it is one of the best atomizer designs I've seen in the last two or three years.

OMG - Yes
Once properly built, the kayfun is a fantastic performer(Kayfun Lite and Lite Plus), setup can last a month or more before servicing - use dependent.
Flavors are totally different than from a device like a protank.
i.e. I have the exact same e-liquid from the same Bottle in Both and they taste nothing alike. Kayfun delivers a much more dynamic rich flavor. Makes me wonder how many flavors I may have appreciated if I had used them in a better device.

*First thing to correct is that tiny hole Drip tip they come with, Ditch it for a decent wide bore tip for a smoother more open draw.

This is good news. The only reason I want to buikd couls is to improve flavor. I am using MBV butterscotch with 5 extra flavor shots and I am getting almost no flavor with my current setup on any setup for the last 2 years.

I think cotton and other alternate wick media are key to getting juice feed for maintaining flavor and vapor. I've found that cotton in a Protank head kicks up the flavor noticeably. I haven't tried RBA's, but the Aspire Nautilus really opened my eyes to what flavor could be and how long a head could maintain it. I've never gotten a week out of a Kanger coil and still liked the flavor it produced.

I'm looking forward to winding some micro coils and installing them in my used Nautilus heads. Gotta go get that Hobby Lobby coil winder. I've hand wound a number of coils using a knitting needle and 2mm silica, but they are only about as neat as what you see in a new Kanger head. There's lots of quality variation even in Kanger factory head coils. With the winder and a torch and cotton, I think I can do much better.

At $1.75 for Kanger and $3.49 for Nautilus replacement heads, there's a chunk of change to be saved, not to mention the boost in vape quality that's there for the reward.

If this is your ADV for all this time I see 2 major problems.
Need to switch off often to let the taste buds recover. Use something with a very opposing taste.(maybe drink lemon-aide)
May need to reduce Flavor shots. You are trying to overcome Taste Numbness and only increasing the problem.

Then the way I read you answer is that it does NOT for thigh the post that inserts into the insulator but instead is pressed against the side of the insulator by the bottom post.

The positive lead goes between the steel center post and the inside of the insulator. The negative lead goes between the outside of the insulator and the body of the coil assembly.

See here for complete rebuild instructions - using cotton in this case - that leaves nothing to assumption. See if anything clicks compared to your procedure. => http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/clearomizers/396220-kanger-protank-rebuild-33.html#post9844874

I didn't make it to Hobby Lobby yesterday, but I did get by Harbor Freight and picked up the micro butane torch they had on sale for $8.99 (reg $14.99). It's a good buy with a piezo igniter button and a good solid blue flame that's adjustable from about 1/4" length to about 2".

Now to get the coil winder from Hobby Lobby ... maybe today.

Got my coil winder yesterday.

My Kanthal, Nemesis, and KFL will be here tomorrow. I will be trying the build on Saturday night or Sunday. My plan is to post pics in "real time" as I progress through the build so if anyone sees anything I am doing wrong, it can be pointed out during the process so I can more easily learn from it.

It's a mystery without some ohmmeter readings to troubleshoot by. Could you report on the resistance of the coil after you insert it and the pins? I'm betting on center pin contact loss, but there's no proof of that unless you know that the head has proper resistance before and after the one time fire followed by failure.

I'm not familiar with the VTR's center contact scheme. It would theoretically be a floating pin held in place by a silicone tube that allows wiring soldered on the bottom. Any pin can be pushed downward by atomizer pressure. When your recoil head fails to fire, can you install a known good (new) head and create vapor? After you remove the bad head, what readings to you get from an ohmmeter with it removed? Have you disassembled the head to inspect it? If you examine the contacts on the bottom of the head with an eye loupe can you see the ends of the wires between the outer shell and the silicone and between the center pin and the same silicone tube spacer?

I'd also like to know what happens when you screw the non-working head onto an eGo battery or some other mod that works with other atomizers.

Be aware that the igniter on that torch probably won't last long. I know a guy with a couple of them and he told me about it. I bought one anyway. My igniter didn't work fresh out of the package. It's no big deal. Just keep a lighter handy just in case.

The 510 connection seems to be a custom-made deal with a spring-loaded center pin, all pressed together. I should have snapped some pics while I had mine apart... :(

Right after I verify my homeowners insurance and major medical is paid up...........

haha better man than me... when I get vape mail the first thing I do is open it up and tinker around!
