Another question would be are you sing a dripper or a tank? If you are using a tank and it's not wicked correctly you will get a burnt taste. I really doubt the wire is bad. You shouldn't have any hotspots on a spaced coil.
Using a tank. Here is a Pic of new coils wicked

Replacing everything. Coil and wick. I have never cleaned anything. Just replace it all. Will be posting pics of "burnt" coil as well as new coil and wick set up in the base
Ah, well there you go then. When next your coil burns take a tweezer, remove the wick and throw it away leaving the coil in place. Then dry burn the wick to remove the funk and put a new wick in. Dry burning and wicking instructions for your atty should be on YouTube

Ok here are some pics.

The first pics are of the "burnt" coil. This is after about 12 hours of use. When taking this apart, I notice the wick was kinda burnt through where it is inside the coil and broke off when pulling it out of the coil.

I vape this coil at 12 watts and it started tasting burnt before changing it out right now. I turned the wattage up to 30 and took a hard fast hit and it was the worst burnt taste I've ever tasted.

The other pictures are of a new coil and wick installed. Then primed and ticked in the grooves made for the wick.

As I have mentioned, I have never attempted to clean a coil, I just assumed once they started taking burnt, that was it.

If this is the issue, what is the best way to clean my coils? Do I then just Rewick the cleaned coil.

I don't understand why I cannot vape at a higher wattage like 30 even after placing a new coil and wick in the rig...

Any thoughts here??

Here are what the coils look like

Thanks for posting. We like pictures. :)

A really good benefit of spacing coils is less maintenance over micro (squeezed together). Micro coils can sometimes accumulate sweetener residue (gunk) faster than spaced. Again, depends on various factors; wattage/voltage, juice, wick, how often you vape, etc.

The zues rta tank. Single coil
To me those legs look a wee bit short. They must be actually sitting on the af it self. You do need some air under those coils in order to work correctly. Are these cols premade? Or do you make them yourself? If premade, do you have any other coils you can try?

:)

I make them. I need to make the legs / posts that get screwed in longer?

First, looking at the pics the coil just seems a bit too big. There isn't much air flow at all being too close to the bottom and way too much wicking. Those slots on the side is where the wicking goes and you don't even have the ends of the coil pointing towards them at all. When I do mine, I just have the wick bottoms just barely touching the lower decking part. You are choking off the air that is why it is burning.

What do you mean I don't have to ends of the wick pointing towards the channels on each side. Once I prime the wick, I tuck each side of the wick down into the channel on each side so they reach down to the bottom deck.

Try using a smaller diameter coil and make sure those coils sit up higher....doesn't have to be a lot but up off the air hole.
Right now I'm using 3 diameter. Should I go down to 25 diamrtrrand make the posts longer so the coil sits up higher?.... 20 diameter?

They only need to barely touch the bottom deck. You have way too much wicking,no air is getting to the coil itself and is burning. Wrap a new coil around a smaller diameter rod. What size rod are you using now. 3mm is ok, just barely fits, a 2.5 mm would be better.

Using 3mm now. Go to 2.5 or 2mm?

Are you thinning those tails? Don't pack them into that channel make sure they have room to breathe.

Hmm.. well you definitely shouldn't be tasting anything burnt at 12w. Without being there with you in person and looking at it irl, try this:
  • Check if any part of the coil is too close/touching the deck/chamber. This is very important as this will cause a short. Still vapable but you will get a nasty terrible hit. Be sure to lift and center your build perfectly as to touch nothing at all and have it placed in the ideal position for airflow to go thru to get the best performance; flavor and vapor.
  • Double check the wire. If you can't tell, use a magnet or take it to an experienced vape shop and compare. Sometimes a vendor has sent customers the wrong wire or you may have received mislabled wire.

Your photos show nothing strange and your build from our angle doesn't look bad. Others here in the forum might offer more suggestions but that's all I can think of atm. Wish I was there to help you better.

I don't thin the tails. I just put juice on then and stuff them down in the channels.

How tight should the wick be inside the coil itself? Should it be a tight fit or a little loose in there?
