Hi,
I'm a total newbie to mods, and probably to vaping overall. I started vaping in December last year, have been smoking for 21 years and kicked it the day I received my e-cig. Loving it. My gf exchanged cigs to vaping too.

We've been using Volcano's Infernos. I've never before had any mods. I've been looking/reading around for a bit, from time to time. The problem is, I don't have much free time to read ecf. And as you all know, ecf is freaking huge, it simply takes too much time to sift through all the chatter.

Anyway, every time I was looking for what to buy, I always ended up here. So I pushed the button. And forgot about it. Couple of days ago I received the GGTS. Imeo, my man, that thing is a beauty. Kudos and Thank You.

So... Now I have it, but can't use it :)
I would like to ask you, the experts:

  1. What batteries whould you recommend? I would like the "longest lasting", though maybe there are some caveats, I should know about?
  2. What charger would you recommend?
  3. Where and when can I buy the UFS? As long as I can remember, COV is always out of stock :(
  4. What attys would you recommend to use? As I understand, I could use any type of atty with UFS? I've always used cisco's 1,5 and 2.0 low res attys. Never even tried any other attys (I tend to stick with things, if they work).
  5. iAtty. Am I understanding this correctly, that you don't need to use any normal attys with this one? I gather it IS an atomizer itself? If so, it costs $112, as normal attys are ~$10. So how long does iAtty last? Though, obviously COV is out of stock on these too :-x
  6. This gonna sound really stupid...ahem... how do you know when to change the battery? I've gotten used to Infernos flashing light, when the battery needs recharging.
Sorry for all these, probably dumb, questions. We simply don't have any friends that vape, so there's no other way to get info or tips, tricks, whatever about vaping. I've got no time to scour the web, and my gf's still learning english, so she's no help in this department.

I sincerely apologize for asking and not looking for the answers myself on these forums. But, cmon, efc is like a bottomless pit :)

Thanks in advance, for any help.

1. For longest lasting get 18650 batterys they are the biggest you can fit in the mod. As I understand batterys the numbers refer to dimensions. IE 18650, 18500, 18350 are all 18mm wide batterys the widest the TS can take. Second set of numbers are length 18650 are around 68mm long 18350s are about 35 mm long.

That being said I recommend either 1850 for longest lasting or 18350 for the smallest you can get your TS and it should be longest lasting battery in that length.

As for brand well AW batterys seem to be the most popular but I personally don't see much difference between my AW and cheaper batterys.

2 Charger. I have a Trustfire TR-001 but I am looking hard at a TR-003 or possibly a Pila charger. From what I can see higher end chargers charge faster.

3. UFS will be made again however it won't be till Sept at the earliest possibly even October.

4. Can't say much as I like R4 Ce2's or Boge LR cartos.

5. iAtty is a tank mod that incorporates a rebuildable coil/wick system. It is very similar to Ce2 Cartos except you can rebuild the coil and replace the wick as needed. iAtty itself should last a lifetime you will have to buy replacement wire and wick. This is cheap though and you should be able to buy a years worth of wire and wick for under 50 bucks in some cases much below that.

6. You know battery is dead by when it stops making vapor or when performance suffers enough that you want to put in a new battery.

BTW GGTS works very well with other aromizers,cartomizers and tank mods. It is extremely flexible.

Hope this helped.

fright88, thanks a bunch for answers.

1&2. Just ordered 2x AW P18650 3.7V 2900mAh and a Pila IBC 4-Stage Charger. Expensive, but I'm too poor to buy crap.
3. Impatiently waiting.
5. Impatiently waiting.
6. Will make do, I guess.

4. I would like to elaborate:
As I said, I've only tried cisco's LR attys. For longest time we used 1.5, then he started carying 2.0s, so we tried those. My gf switched full time to 2.0, but I appologized to 1.5. For my taste, 2.0s were too "light". I caught myself sucking on the thing all day long, though still frustrated all the time from not reaching that satisfied stage. Though I must say, 2.0 felt better on my throat. With 1.5 I'm coughing all day long.
The worst and scariest thing is, that lately I'm catching myself yearning that "satisfied" feeling after smoking a cigarette. I mean, when I smoked, I got a yearning, I lighted up, finished a cig and was good for some time. But with vaping lately, I never get that feeling of enough. It is weird, as I was able to kick smoking and vaping was enough from day 1, when I started. For the life of me, I couldn't even say exactly when it started, this unsatisfied feeling. Its worrying, because I most definitely vape way more than I smoked. The thing seldom leaves my hand.

So, the million dollar question would be - what would you recommend for me to try:
I would like to achieve the most possible vapor without too much throat hit. Am I right, thinking, that "throat hit" is the thing, making my throat "scratchy" and coughing? Should I try some other kind of attys, or 6V vaping? I'm clueless.

I use 24mg 80pg/20vg juice in my UFS that has a 1.5 LR avid vaper 510 atomizer in it on my SSGGTS that has a AW IMR 18650 3.7v in it and I feel satisfied.

But sometimes I also use a different box mod and use 1.5 LR dual coils and run it at 5 volts and also feel satisfied.

It's going to take some time to find the right vape for you. Everyone has different likings/opinions so you're the only person who can figure out yourself. It's going to take a couple bucks to find that right vape but when you do you're going to be very happy and a lot healthier that you quit smoking.

Well, for me, I was never able to completely match that "need a smoke, have a smoke, feel satisfied for an hour or two" feeling. Instead, what satisfies me changed, and that is drawing on my GG whenever I want...all the time if I want (which I do when I'm at home relaxing and, say, watching the tv or when I'm driving.)

Once in a while I'll over do the nic and get dizzy...heh...so I stop for a while. But then I can also go hours without craving if I need to...if I'm at work or somewhere else I can't vape constantly. So, after more then two years vaping, the activity is different, but every bit or more as satisfying as smoking ever was (was a 30 year smoker, too)

You've been vaping less then a year, right? I recall going through what you describe now and then the first year. And, like you, the day I got my first PV was the day I stopped smoking ciggies altogether. I think it's just the brain coming to terms with really giving up the smoking habit forever and ever. It will pass. But by all means, try out different voltages and see how they hit you. Maybe get some lower nic juice if you it bothers you that you're vaping a lot. Other then that, don't worry if your GG has become your pacifier! ;) That too will even out as time goes by and even if it doesn't, it's way better then smoking.

edited to add: hmmm...that was a rambly post....maybe I should duck into the Ladies room and sneak a hit off my Slim....

My recommendations since you don't have a UFS:
  • Battery: AW IC 18650 / 2900 mAh - Super battery run-time (2 days for me) and a little kick.
  • Atomizer: 1.5Ω - I like VaporKings since they last me months (no exaggeration) and produce tons of vapor. Just keep it wet! Good price on the bulk pack.
  • Juice - Totally subjective, but from my experience the higher nicotine is what produces most of the throat hit. I like ULTRApure, but it's a love/hate thing.

Hope that helps!

Hey Wylie, is ULTRApure anything like ECOpure Rich?

It was Innovapor's replacement to the ECOpure line. I was outraged when they stopped carrying my 'all day' vape but a friend let me try his ULTRApure and... it's my all-day vape now.

So, no. It's not the same. But if you like one you'll probably like the other. Like ECOpure, it is very tough to define. Less ethyl maltol is the only thing I can say for certain.

You know you can still get ECOpure right?

ECOpure RICH e-Liquid 30 ml

@Valsacar
Not that desperate yet :) I waited to decide on the mod (I feel I made a good choice, time will tell), I can wait for the feeder. I'm most definitely not paying extra $100 just to get it faster.

@moonlight
Thanks for encouraging. I guess I'm not going bonkers :)
From the day I started I haven't smoked more than 16mg juice, and probably only %10 of it was 16mg, I mostly smoke 12mg juice. I'm worried, that I'm getting way more nic now that I'm vaping, compared to when I smoked. I don't know about this nic thing for sure, maybe I need to read up on it more, though I'm worried, if I do, I'll be scared of vaping and that would be a disaster. I can't get back to smoking, period. I know for sure what smoking does to your system. The sad thing, as most of us here vapers know first hand (I'm simply assuming most of us picked up vaping to drop smoking), all the knowledge and experience in the world accounts to nothing, when it comes to quitting smoking. I'm a 3rd generation medic, with a family member, who's died of lung cancer (smoked for 40+ years). And all this meant s***. I never really felt/believed I could ever quit smoking, I loved it too much. I honestly haven't gone a single day without a smoke in 21 years, not a one. If I ran out of smokes in a middle of the night, I went to a gas station to buy more. That's why it still feels magical to me, that I kicked the cigs the first day, the first try and I'm still off them. Unbelievable. Honestly, if you told me that a year ago, I would've laughed in your face and said some really nasty things, to express my opinion of you being totally mental :)

@Wylie
Heh, ordered exactly those batts from superT yesterday :) Thanks for a tip on attys, will try, and the price is really good, almost half. Do you do any maintenance on your attys? I mean I see people talking about washing the attys and all sorts of things. Do you do any of that? I still haven't gotten into trying any tricks to maintaining attys.
Whats with this juice? From your discussion with dream, I'm assuming there's more to it somehow.
I'm vaping Gorilla, Bobba's Bounty, Butterscotch from Avejuice, finished a batch of various flavors from Ms T's bakery before that, loved some, hated some. I actually still haven't found any that I "love and stick to it". I think I need to try so called "proper" tobacco juices. Though I hate this trying thing, I have tons of juice that I bought, hated and it sits there wasted. I need to get on forum here where people share stuff they don't use (iirc, the is a section like this here on ecf), though I'm not sure if the juice has an expiration date, does it?

@silentt
One of the positives about vaping vs smoking it saves you money. Though with trying out stuff, I'm wondering if it does. Now that I'm getting into mods, even more so :) Well, I keep reminding myself, that maybe I'll live longer now :laugh:

Thanks for your advices, everyone.

cryodream, in my opinion, ecopure rich is the antithesis of most juices.. it simply performs like a real analog. flavor is subdued and tastes like ethyl maltol. i like it a lot! I believe it is supposed to taste like tobacco, but all i get is a crisp maltiness that hits the back of my throat in a good way. i sometimes like to alternate between rich and bwb's malty/malty toffee.. i'm very tired... so forgive my poor description..
Wyle likes ultrapure. i want to try this. it seems that people who like ecopure rich often like ultrapure (full?) as well.

btw, congrats on your new GG and my apologies for hijacking the conversation to ecopure/ultrapure ;)
just don't do anything impulsive like buying these.. they're expensive and i'll feel responsible if you are stuck with bottles of stuff you don't like.

I think the atty cleaning thread you mention is about a waxy substance on some atomizers. One of those mentioned is VK, but it seems like a new phenomenon. I haven't seen that on mine. The only way this would make a difference is if you have the atty in a tank like the UFS. If you mean cleaning them regularly, then there are two camps I guess: those who religiously clean their atties and those who never do. I'm in the latter camp. Sure, I'll clean the atty if I'm changing from a powerful flavor and I'll use only pure grain alcohol (Everclear for me). Otherwise, I'll generally vape out a milder flavor.

@dream
Yes, full flavor is best for me. Head over to the Innovapor forum and there's a thread on the ULTRApure in the stickies. Some love it (me) and some hate it. It's got some of the ethyl maltol flavoring, but it's not the base taste.

Have you guys tried Malty by Backwoods Brew? I hear it was inspired by Ecopure, though I can't say how it compares because I've never tried the Ecopure. It's less expensive though, and wonderful.

Wylie, I totally get what you're saying. I was like that too...LOVED smoking (except for how it made me smell) and was amazed at how well the vaping substituted for it. Also, I work for a medical device manufacturer (Defibrillators!) these past 15 years, and "heart-risky" behaviour is really discouraged here as part of our culture...heh! But anyway, after some time, vaping was no longer a substitute and instead became the thing I would rather do :)

Go by how you feel to judge your nic level. I got that nic overdose feeling WAY easier with cigarettes then vaping. Seems like you're at a relatively mid-low nic level. I would encourage you not to worry about it for now...do what you need to do to forget all about smoking. You have plenty of time to cut down on nic levels in the future :)

Edited to add: Duh...Dream, I just read your post a little closer and see you have tried the BWB juice. Okay, I'll get back to work now...at least I can seem smart there...hehehehehe
