I wonder if having a minimum number of posts to enter might help avoid this. 50 posts? 100? Something low enough that it doesn't exclude people just for not being as talkative as us but would stop people from being able to spam 8 posts in 5 minutes and then go straight for the contests?

Even if it's not one person making a bunch of accounts, giving away cash instead of vaping gear is going to attract more people who are going to join ECF just for the money and not care about the community here.

do you have any idea how many word games are being played on ecf? post count doesn't mean much anymore. you can rack up hundreds with no sweat ........

Think this is a big watch out for a few of us...i started vaping a few of months ago and both my wife and daughter have since started to vape part time....cant get them to fully quit the analogs but i am still working on it..and have both joined ecf forum and have taken part in some of the competitions both have there own laptops but i only have one internet account.
some evenings we are on ecf at the same time on are own machines so is this going to be a problem because i would hate it if she has to move out:facepalm:

Well if these were all Co-workers, I would think they are reading the posts as we go and are very aware already. Also I would have thought that at lease one of them would have spoken up saying, I am a "real boy". I don't think it was IP address or proxy that was the trigger. You should have maybe said NAT/PAT, there are Sr. Network Engineers on this thread.

I know. I am one. It's my ip here they go though (the box I run my site on is the proxy box, which means traffic can be heavy) I'll be talking to them tomorrow to see if there's any other way they can use the forums without going through my proxy.

thats usually ok, each computer has its own IP address, not the connection itself when in a household.

That's not correct. Each computer inside your home network has a private IP. They all show up as your router's IP when going out.

I think two active accounts like that would look different from a bunch of them that posted a handful of one-line posts to get out of the beginner forums and then goes straight for the cash.

no if you have DSL or cable with a router or whatever all the computers inside that home setup share the same ip to the outside world.

very strange, I have 6 computers through my router, the internal ip address will always be 192.168.1.1XX whatever but the actual ip addresses are all different on each machine if doing a IP test site

IMHO .... Even if these are all individual new members....
wouldn't it be wrong to JOIN a site such as ECF .....
just to play in a supplier/vendor's game ?

and.... I do believe family multiple account are allowed ...you just have to let ECF know that , that is the case .

Not really. If you tell someone there's a competition to win X then they're quite happy to.
They're not all as geeky as me though :)

Mr. Chunkmeister. The board is a very nice place to meet new friends and get help and advice on vaping. But it is unfair to both the other contestants and the wonderful people who put on these contests to have your wife who stated in her tenth post "I don't vape, I just have to put up with my husband doing it" and others who do not even vape to enter contests when it is obvious that you will be the one to benifit.

Your router runs a DHCP server to allocate IPs to all the PCs in your house, starting with the 192.168 range.
If you go to somewhere like grc.com and use the shields up tool, it'll give you your router IP.

IMO....that is not gonna be an issue....we already have a few married couples that play....the issue is when there are 11 different users in an hours time at the same location playing.....and 6 of them joined just today. I personally have no issue with families playing together here.....but this is not the case in this situation.

I am sorry. I didn't know that was against the rules.
I had influence over a few workmates who said they'd enter the competition.

This competition... it is an open one, isn't it?
..and with that example, nobody's complained about my wife entering the competitions before.
