Aside from the battery, mechanical mods have no electronics or wires. Reading the resistance needs to be done using electronics and will have to be done with an electronic PV or a multimeter.

I think that the first consideration when choosing a mech should be the body style and button location (side, pinky, bottom, etc). This is a personal preference - I like bottom button mods. You should look at pictures of different mechanicals and try to decide this for yourself. Conductivity is a consideration - you definitely want brass contacts, perhaps with silver or gold plating (I think that silver is more durable than gold and either way, you'll be disappointed when it starts to run off).

With a mechanical mod you're really just dealing with a 510 connection powered by a battery. Different models have their pluses and minuses. If you want to learn you should hit YouTube and look at reviews of different mechanicals - it's helpful to watch people disassemble and assemble it. You can search the forums for commentary on different devices - most popular models have dedicated threads where people will share the good, the bad, and perhaps the ugly.

Some people like to buy clones at first to get a feeling for what they like. I did my research and picked what would be considered a high-end mechanical after much deliberation. If you buy a high-end device directly from the source you're most likely to receive quality support in case something is wrong. I'm concerned that I've become addicted to buying mechanical mods, but I don't regret anything that I've bought.

Thanks for the info. Trust me, if there is one thing I've done it's research, research, research. I've gazed at tons of YouTube vids, and have stalked more threads than I want to mention. I'm new, but totally understand the ins and outs.

My issue, I have already purchased 3 high-end devices, and I'm anxious to find my setup already so I can get to my break-even point. Also, I don't like to purchase anything "knockoff". If I'm in, I'm all the way in..

..which can be expensive lol.

Grabbed the GP tonight, and I believe that completes my setup as far as devices go.

Stoked!

But if you have a VV/VW mods as well, there's really not a reason to have a multimeter, right?

Testing batteries and loads imo is the most important thing you can do - I will doubt that anyone here would argue that. This has been discussed on many threads on ECF and it is hard to refute my friend. Kind of hard to check hybrids with a vv PV isnt it? The vv PV should be a back up to the multi meter. Beginners to Advanced(most own them) vapers should learn on a multi meter not a PV.

A vaper without a multimeter is like a Doctor without a stethoscope. That is no joke.

Installing dam French Doors today and my new GP fell out of my pocket slammed down on the sidewalk button first.

Little scratch on the locking ring but still works perfect. I love well made mech devices.

I've done exactly this several times with my Lux and it still looks and functions great although it probably won't pass for new. Doesn't matter since I intend to hold onto it indefinitely. I've never been one for putting cases and screen protectors on electronics. I say let it age gracefully. :)

I agree wholeheartedly. I love a bit of wear and tear on my things.

So would this be ok? I plead that I'm still learning. I'm gonna need tips how to check loads, etc with the MM.

Looks great and A great price. There is much that you wouldn't use. I got my small one from Lowe's. It's perfect and not overwhelming to even a beginner.
Find this on amazon or eBay. Not overwhelming and all you need. Very portable.

DM110 - Mini Pocket MultiMeter

That one is $40 on Amazon.

Either od these look ok as well? Looks a lot simpler.

I have THIS and it's going great guns for under $10 (batteries included :))

I bought that model from FastTech too. I'm not very happy with it - it's very cheap. When I press the leads together to measure resistance I get a reading that I need to compensate for. I have a Klein Tools multimeter from Home Depot that is much better (but cost more).

Yesterday, I was trying vapourart using local IP, US IP and UK IP addresses .... all failed. I also had the conspiracy (but by local gov) in my head.

I will wait for it to be up and, hopefully, they will have some in stock!!!

LOL. VapourArt will announce a release. You may check Domo Vapor Co, Domo Vapor Co. I believe Blake can help!
