About the GP Telescopic Centre Post v2.6

As many people here know, we have changed the dimensions of our telescopic posts 3 times (v2.1, v2.5, v2.6) in order to follow the changes of the Kick ( I love its constant sense by the way, it keeps me vaping when I have a 3 weeks old resistance of 2,8Ω, and I am too lazy to change it) and the inconsistent length of different brands of batteries which are usually are out of their specs. The default length of a 510 atomizer should be 4mm, more than this is out of specs.

In an ideal world, every battery would have the exact length of its category, the kick would have a length equal to the difference between a 18500 battery and a 18650 one and the 510 connectors would have all 4 mm length. Reality check: the batteries appear to have a tolerance of 2,5 mm out of specs, the kick2 about 2,82 mm more than the difference between a 18500 and a 18650 battery and the Kayfun 3.1 ES 0,5 mm (it is 4,7 mm in many units), total 5,84 mm out of specs. Additionally, we want to keep the minimalistic style of our mods, so we have to accept some limitations.

The second pair of brass screws, the GP telescopic post v2.6 is included with every GP PAPS X as a help to aforementioned matters. In that way we have 6 combinations using the silver posts and the brass ones. The truth is, when you have 4 variables in an equation (battery-kick-510 connection-minimalistic design), the whole scheme becomes a designer's nightmare and some compromises are unavoidable.

Get one of each... the Lux and the v2.5 SS Brushed

I concur. Once the X makes its way my direction, I will have all 3. The SS and the Lux stay in constant rotation. I can't go a day or so without slapping an atty on a different GP, and enjoying the quality in my hand.

I posted this in the High-End Mechanicals thread, and at qorax's suggestion, thought I'd post again here. I don't know how it didn't occur to me to post here first :p

Paps X has arrived!!

My first thoughts:
Very nice. It's a sexy little beasty. It's got a very clean look to it. I really appreciate the clean look of GP's mods. Fit and finish are the best I've experienced yet. All of the threads (including the one at the 510 connection) are incredibly smooth and the joints between the extension rings, although not visually seamless, can't be felt. To be fair, I have chef hands from handling hot plates and making capps and lattes every day at work, so the sense of touch at my fingertips is a little dull ;). But still, impressive.

The switch design is genius. There's no external locking ring--it locks by rotating the button about 3/4 of a turn. There's no visual change in the switch assembly. Very slick. The switch is, of course, super smooth with a throw of about 1mm. The action is a little firmer than the the switch on the Paps, but it still feels very very nice.

I don't use any atties that make use of the AFC ring, so I can't really comment on it, other than to say that the threading is nice :)

I tested the voltage drop: 0.2V under load with a 1.4ohm atty, on a freshly charged AW IMR 18350. It almost hits as hard as my Atomo, which is the only other mod I have that shows a similarly low voltage drop (also showed 0.2V on a freshly chared battery, but with a 1 ohm atty). With voltage drop numbers being what they are, that it as you will.

My only gripe is that the battery contact in the two-way center post sticks a bit--to the point where in order to adjust it downwards for a KFL, I have to remove the entire center post from the top cap. Not a big deal, since the Squape's home will be on the X, but it's still a little disappointing.

I've been waiting for the X to be released for what seems like forever (even though I've only been vaping for about 4 1/2 months :p), and I was super excited to be able to get an order in. All in all, I'm very impressed. With an ELA on preorder, and now an X in hand, the only thing left is a Lux, and my search for mods will be at its end. :2c:

Some additional thoughts:
I've been vaping on the X for a few hours now and I'm liking it more and more. Do I like it more than the Paps? I can't really say. It feels like there's more precision in the X, particularly in the switch, but I like the action on the Paps's switch more--the almost-touch-like action is a thing of beauty. I tried replacing the spring in the X's button with the spare from my Paps. It works, but not as well as I'd like. The action becomes Paps-like in its lightness but the throw loses its crispness--it's mushy, for lack of a better word. It also seems a little sluggish to return to its neutral position, probably because the spring is too short and soft to work properly in the X's switch assembly. Oh wells, it's still a very nice switch, second only to the one on the Paps in my book ;)

Job very well done Perseas! Thank you, for this little beauty :)

Thank you very much for your praise :)

You can experiment with the included springs, the GP PAPS v2.5 springs aren't proper. There are 3 springs, the No2, a medium hardness spring which is already inside the switch, a soft spring the No1, and the No3, a stiff one.

The threads of the positive post are tight and they need to be used for a while to be fine. In the rare case they don't, throw me an email.

Perseas:
You are most welcome--it's well deserved :toast:

I did try all of the included springs before I resorted to trying the one from the Paps v2.5 :p The number 1 spring is still a little stiffer than I'd like, but I'm thinking that maybe it'll soften some with use.

Regarding the threads in the positive pin. It's not so much that they're tight as they seem to be binding as the battery contact threads into the atomizer contact. And then it just stops, with thread still visible and about 1.5mm of travel remaining:

Should they be able to sit flush with each other?

Yes, they should be able to do it. Too much silver on the post. Work the threads back and forth a bit, don't afraid to break them, if something happens, no worries, I'll send you a new post ASAP.

All the springs get a little softer after one day of use.

Thank you for confirming my hypothesis. I did a feel test and thought the included springs were "hard" and "soft". I switched mine out to "soft" for very light switch. Still stand up fine, unlocked, with KFL on it in 18650 mode.

Flipping .......... You should fill the form out and turn em in. It's bad enough that he is selling the GP but profiteering is much worse.
I will fill it out as well.

Again, nicest mod that I have ever held. I have had it a week now and still havent let go. I still haven't cleaned it or felt the need...until I look at all the pictures I have taken.

Yea I'm just amazed that someone is selling a GP to begin with after just paying for it. Furthermore, it's a friggin GPX, have you lost your mind?

I "value" my mods higher than they cost, but I'm not selling.

Glad ECF has rules in play for this nonsense. Good stuff on calling the flipper out on his/her thread ID.

Im pretty sure the buyer bought it with the intention of flipping. As much as we wanna say, 'But its a GP, why would anyone wanna sell it?!?!' they knew what they were doing.

Selling it BRAND NEW then says its been fired exactly three times...to me, thats used. :glare:

Small update on the SnP with Diver, posting here as well.

Since I adopted the new practice of only filling the SnP to 70%, I get zero leaking or condensation on the Diver base. I have swapped out Divers a couple of times, and even with the vanilla Diver configuration, it works perfectly as long as I only fill and refill to around 70%. This also applies to my Scuba tank.

***Today is KLF day***

Someone please point me in the direction of a post or video to get this thing setup ASAP. I'll be working with 30g Kanthal and 2 or 3mm silica.
