As far as sophia's and divers... I wish there was a carto like rebuildable that didn't require non-resistance wire

It might be very difficult in that form factor. The 6mm horizontal space is not enough to have terminal posts in one plane - hence they need to be spaced vertically. And with vertical terminals there is a wasted, but necessary travel involved for the wire that just does nothing but carry the current.

And if that current isn't atomizing, it will produce unnecessary heat if moving thru a resistance. Which in turn shall contribute to many unwanted/undesired actions. Thus, the unfortunate need of CE2 styled cups and the NR-R-NR setup.

The nearest thing possible (w/out the NR) in those dimensions is the K'fun Mini. That is as thin as it gets. Thus, unless the tank is incorporated within the Carto-RBA module it might be very difficult to have a tank-RBA without the NR, IMHO.

Funny how powerful music is to the human spirit. It takes more lives, saves more lives, brings people together, breaks people apart, etc. than we can ever imagine.

Punk was alive and well for me growing up and was in it's height before I signed over my life and had to grow up too fast.
I'm back into Rehab, Rob Zombie, Cypress Hill, and classic rock and never left Sublime or Blink 182 - West Coast music. I am also forever faithful to Pink Floyd and at some point want to see Roger Waters "The Wall Tour" but, gonna be a while before I can deal with crowds.

I don't mind joining wires with my zapper, but that 32g NR wire is so easy to break, usually right where it exits the ceramic hole and becomes the ground wire. And the 30g is too thick. Just do what I do. I put the whole coil in the positive clip when I'm welding. For micro coils not wrapped on a toothpick I just put the whole coil in the clip with the leads trimmed to about 2.5mm, just enough room to get the NR joined up without bumping negative clip in to the positive.



Look at those beautiful joins , perfect every time.




If you're wrapping on a toothpick just leave the toothpick in the coil for extra stability and do what I said above.

If you're not using cotton you can still put the coil in the clamp but you may need to fix it up a bit afterwards.


As for slots not being wide enough. If you're using cotton and running something like a 1/16 micro the slots are MORE than big enough for the amount of cotton you need. Even at 5/64 the slots give ample juice flow through the wicks. If you're using enough cotton that you're cramming it in to the slots you're probably using way too much IMO.

Chad, I have no problem joining the wires, I use the same technique as you.
The problem for me is that the cotton wants to hang on the ceramic, and makes it hard to judge the correct amount. I'm not putting too much, it wants to hang up on the ceramic and makes me think it's too much. Then I get too little. I'm experimenting with the yarn to see if that helps me.

Cool, you had just mentioned that you had issues with your joins breaking. I figured you were trying to weld and then wrap.

As for the cotton thing , everything is matter of personal taste and preference of course. IMO you need barely enough to fill the coil. I boil mine and it makes it pretty fluffy , and if the coil gives the cotton any resistance at all when I insert it , there is probably too much. Try it sometime with a very small amount and see how it goes.

Barely enough to fill slot after it's wet and trimmed fairly short give me very good results. I was at a friends the other night and he is just getting in rebuilding with some of my old attys I gave him. He didn't have any cotton balls handy and I found that the amount of cotton you can pinch and pull off one end of a Q-tip is more than enough to wick a coil.

I have found a new love for you guys. Had no idea how many metal fans we have in here. I'm into a lot of forms of metal, but death and brutal (I think they call it "slam" now..maybe? Too hard to keep up with sub genres anymore) are my favorites I'd say.

Brutal Death wise do you listen to Putrid Pile at all, I'm back in to them a bit right now.

Though lately I've been on a pretty big Death Grind kick with Cattle Decapitation in heavy rotation.

Speaking of Death Grind bands, my friends had one going for a few years that you might really enjoy. Shoot me a PM to remind me and I'll give you a copy of the album. Female singer and she's hands down my favourite next to Kat Katz of Agoraphobic Nosebleed ( who also has amazing performances on the newest Pig Destroyer).

Sorry, wasn't clear, not my joins...when the NR wire exits the ceramic, the negative wire will sometime have a sharp bend as it goes around the ceramic. It does not break at the join, but at this sharp bend.

This is on a diver, so if I use too little cotton, it can flood, complicated by the tank mechanics on the billet box. I may, in fact have a tank that has worn out. Most experiments in the lab later. ..

Despite that fact that I'm a 64-year-old grandmother, I'm a huge Tool fan and generally go to see them when they're in Australia. At the most recent concert (last year? or maybe the year before - age is a terrible thing), a very sweet 20-something girl came up to me and asked if I was lost or needed help Given security was tight and there was no way I could have gotten in without a ticket, it was a funny question, but it was lovely of her to be concerned. I did point out that Maynard is nearly 50

My older son occasionally does sound engineering for a local metal pub band. If they need to do a bit of sampling, it's my music collection they go to, not my son's.

Moving slightly away from metal, the fact that you're Canadian got me thinking about The Tea Party. I once drove for five hours each way to pick up someone and go to one of their gigs north of Sydney

Yeh, the ticket prices are a killer. I've seen them about half a dozen times, but there were a few years when I simply couldn't afford it. Now that I've stopped smoking (7 months!) - and if I stop buying Xes and Luxes and Sophias and SnPs etc - maybe I'll be able to afford one more time.
