With all of the recommendations not to buy the istick 50W, how can one know what company to trust? I have even heard of an $800 device (not eleaf) fail. People can't just buy new devices all the time because of bad reports. That would empty your wallet very quickly. Makes one wonder if they shouldn't just go to gum or patch.

I'm still new to vaping.

In my my experience, vaping devices are like cell phones. They are both electronic, a wide variety of features and prices. Some are tried and true, some are lacking in performance. A high price tag does not necessarily guarantee perfect performance. I know more people that have problems with iPhones than android. It's all about what's right for you.

I would have no problem at all recommending an MVP (11 watt or 20 watt). They are tried, true and a solid performer. I would also recommend a Vision Spinner. Again tried and true. I wouldn't recommend an istick 20 even though I have 2 of them. I would recommend an istick 30. Bugs in the 20 were resolved in the 30. I would not recommend the istick 50. I think it was rushed to market before fully tested. Hopefully the problems have been resolved and the new run is safe to use but I wouldn't recommend it until it has been on the market for a while and it proves to have had the problems fixed.

I wouldn't recommend either gum or patch as I have had experience with both and for me, neither work as well as advertised.

Are they all expensive?

nope, buncha cheapo ones out there. it also depends what you mean by expensive. Theres a bunch of simple stuff that only go for 10-30$, then theres the entry end electrical mods that are like 40-60$. You dont need to start out with something worth 100$. Some of those 100$+ mods vape the same as <50$ gear as well.

Gum. You still get the oral fixation.

Find one and stick with it. You really only need one device to power an atty. Then you can buy all different types of toppers for your vaping pleasure. I don't get the fixation on the battery holders. I still enjoy my volts, spinners, original kicked nemy clone, mvp and smok 50. Although the MVP2 and smoke 50 get the majority of vaping. When one is charging I use the other.

Even "tried and true" device can be had for $50? The cheapest I heard for an American device was over $200.

Well I have a rule I never buy something in year 1. If the product is still around by year 2, I figure it was either a good product or at least has had the bugs worked out.

FWIW, you can get a clone of almost any device from China for pretty cheap prices.

in my experience even as crappy CIGALIKE is better than Gum or patch. You don't need a 50watt device to deliver a dose of nicotine. You might need high power to deliver that dose along with a big cloud and big flavor though.

I wouldn't buy it. The last device I bought prior to last jan MVP2 purchase is the Smok 50 a month ago. My MVP wasn't holding the charge as much. I debated about the Eleaf 50 but decided to wait and google more about them. Then the bad reviews came out about autofiring. The Smok 50 had a couple negative review about the watts autodegrading. After reading a review that said the plating was the culprit for the Smok 50 I decided to get it and because you could change the battery. I sanded the negative contact point when I got it and I have not had the issue. I figured if it the safety controls are working then it should be good. Supposedly Eleaf fixed the issue, but I like my face and so does my wife. I wouldn't trust them. Smok has a good rep although not popular for some reason.

The only device I woudl recommend without ever using is a Provari. I personally can't see spending that type of money on one, but the reviews I believe. I would rather save for my 2,000.00 robotic pool cleaner I want. I have been researching them for 3 months.

My point is the battery tube is just, a tube that hold a battery to give power to the atty. The atty is what the whole vaping deal is about. Once you know what you what in term of power, spend your money on a good atty or multiple atties for the vaping pleasure side. Just make sure the battery can power the top device.

If you want to empty your wallet very quickly on a device that doesn't work, then the patches and gum are a sure fire bet!
Myself, personally I prefer a reliable tried and true mech, made right here, with iron clad customer service. I have six, and not one has ever given me a day of trouble. Then again, a friend, non vaper, still smoking asked for advice on a good start up kit. On my recommendation she got an istick 30. From what I gather, for the price, they sound very good. I agree, with any electronic device, it's going to be hit and miss. I also recommend a reliable vape store which is known for excellent customer service, in the event she has an issue. You really can't ask for more than that. Most importantly switching to vapeing regardless of what you use, always pays off.

Sure they are worse IMO. I was just reading a thread that the issues with the istick 50 have been addressed. From what I gather the old stock has been recalled, some vendors are taking returns no questions asked, and many people have had no issues. I just firmly believe people using istick 50's have a much greater chance of succeeding than someone wasting money on patches and gum.
