The gum and patches don't work for a lot of people. I think for many smokers more than the nicotine is the hand to mouth habit and even the enjoyment of blowing smoke which vaping provides. I have always used low nicotine juices and when I was first quitting just saw vaping as pretending to smoke which filled that mental void for me.

the two boxes I use are the sigelei 150 ($80) and the Kanger kbox ($25) and I haven't had any issues with either. Most of the tried and true products hold up pretty well. The biggest problem I have is that a new product innovation comes along every month making me think I need this feature or that, I just have to remind myself that all I really need is a good way to puff on my juice and not to be tricked into every shiny object I see. The good thing is yesterdays 800 dollar product is tomorrow's 100 dollar product when the new version comes out.

For me Vamo 5 and clone of iStick 30 work beautifully. Both are just $25. My philosophy: why to buy something expensive when it will be outdated (or broken) in no time? If something for $25 goes bad replacement cost is just $25 - and a newer model. Just have a spare.
But I have to mention that things usually work for me for a long time (may be I am lucky).

P.S. The important thing: quality of vapor does not depend on price of a mod.

In my experience if you are going with an electronic mod it is better to maybe pay a little more up front and buy a known solid performer with a company that stands behind it if you want to be able to enjoy it for years to come. You have to look at mods realistically when you buy one, any electronics = possible failure of those electronics, built in batteries = limited lifespan. If you buy a cheap mod with a company that doesn't stand behind it for any length of time you might find yourself constantly shelling out for a new mod. I really like the istick 30w myself but I buy them knowing basically they are disposable mods and for under $30 I am good with that but the electronic mod I dropped around $180.00 on is still going strong almost 4 years later and I expect to enjoy it for years to come.

Are they all expensive?

There's a sort of "bell curve" as far as how consumables costs play out.

Really cheap (like cigarett-alikes) work out just as expensive as smoking when you pay for consumables, pay a decent price and you should get decent service. Beyond that there's no end of dodgy vendors happy to hold their hand out for as much as you're willing to part with for a load of whizz-bang features you might never use.

I'd reccomend the Liberty-Flights Vivi-Nova V2 as a good starter - unfortunately its been discontinued a while now.

The ego thread seems to be one of the more common standards on reasonably priced units, and 510 threaded clearomisers will fit on an ego battery, so that's one more possible option when shopping around for prices.

theres a bunch of tried and true devices out there. you dont need to buy all of them.
These three devices have had a stellar, dependable reputation for at least three years. You have a mechanical model, a mechanical bottom feed model, and a regulated model. All are made in the USA and supported for life by the manufacturer, and by today's standards reasonably affordable.

If you are a dedicated, long term vaper looking for a dependable & reliable & safe APV proven over time, you can't go wrong with one of these:

LeomarMods.jpg

Provari ($100), Reo Grand ($150), Silver Bullet ($85)

I own and have used a Provari and Silver Bullet on a daily basis for three years. Extremely dependable. I've used a bottom fed box mod, and I'm not a fan of this type, but that's just me.

Why Provari?

Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup

Patches gave me a painfull rash and gum made my niccotine addiction even worse!

Even "tried and true" device can be had for $50? The cheapest I heard for an American device was over $200.
Your new, and that's not meant as an insult, so don't take it that way.

But there is a massive level of vape gear out there. Not just Chinese or american. That never make it to out shores or shops, because everyone here is interested in cheap boxes with pretty buttons and there is no interest in them.

People complain that a German/French made DNa type tube mod made of titanium with a two year warranty isn't worth 160- 200 bucks. Yet those same people will blow 40 or 50 bucks 3-4 times on some 30 watt plastic box that will last 4 months if your lucky.

I understand the cost thing. But if you buy one mod that can last you several years you actually saved money. And avoided a lot of frustration in the process.

If we keep buying cheap junk and just shrugging off the problems they don't go away.

Just an example a year and a half ago when provari was king, all, and I mean every single one, of the Chinese mod makers really stepped up their game to try and say see? We are reliable too!
Now they don't have that competition any more and it shows in the overall quality.

Too many times now you ask so how is is?
And the reply is always well except for this or that little issue its a great mod. This never used to be a thing lol

I asked about the invader this week.
Oh sometimes it takes more then 5 clicks to turn on.
Oh sometimes if you set it down too hard the chip resets.
Oh sometimes it loses my settings for no reason.

""" but its still a great mod""'''

No that's OK, I personally expect for 70 bucks it actually works correctly, all the time.

But hey I'm on a poldiac with a Kayfun 4, my mod actually works correctly every single time i press the button so what do I know

I know the vaping veterans chuckle when I say I use an Ego C Twist with a Kanger T3S clearomizer. That's cool...I'm a newbie. Vaping was/is a vehicle to get me from point A to point B. It's been 7 weeks since I smoked a cigarette. For less than $40 out the door, I'm a non-smoker after 45+ years. If that is why you are vaping, forget about the more expensive setups for now and keep your eyes on the prize. At eight weeks out, I'm rewarding myself with a box mod and subtank ; )

Ain't nobody laughing, the twist is still a great battery there's plenty of folks still using them. Oddly enough you press the button and it works like its supposed to.and that's what really matters.

Still chewing the gum. Vaping got me off the cigs ... but I'm still chewing the gum.

Patches .... ever forget to take one of those off before you go to sleep? ... wow ... talk about your wild dreams.

Nothing is ever 100%. Cell phones & laptops can cause fires too....and have. Just recently I heard of an iPhone flame up in some guy's pocket. Any battery & therefore, any mod, can vent & flame or explode .... no matter the cost point of that battery or mod. It's just the seemingly high occurrence of the IS50W issues that makes several vapers take pause. I get that. I am using one as I type this, loaded up with some Wakonda in a ST mini....and it's great!!! I get that too

....but is it Russian roulette? Kind of. I pick it up ... look at it ... hit the button once to make sure it's not gunna go haywire ... vape it ... watch it again to make sure it's not gunna go haywire ... repeat. All this, but from the talk, it may just decide to go haywire when I'm not even looking, much less vaping.

It's becoming the Corvair..."unsafe at any speed".

Shrug.

I'll most likely ditch it soon & get something with a better track record.

Lets face it -Boeing had to fit flame proofing and an exhaust tube to the battery compartment on their Dreamliner.

It is funny how everyone is acting like istick50s are the first and only battery operated device that has ever had failures. I remember the same thing when cell phone became popular, and most RC people have dealt with one kind of battery issue or another...

Put down the pitchforks and pick up your vape and relax

Any mention of my battery mods gets relegated to; "not advisable" - but there have been no mishaps so far.

Let's be real.. I won't comment on RC because I don't really get involved in it. The only reason I know anything is 2 years of reading battery forums. Most of those vent because of the hard life they live. No one is putting them up to their face to take a drag. With cell phones there are really only 2 major players. Apple and Samsung... I believe the time of the exploding batteries there was only Apple and Motorola with a few dribs and drabs running around and they were because of incorrect charging cables or cheapo china ones.

There are a ton of manufactures of vape devices. Why risk it with just one company? Relaxing can be as easy as buying a different brand. Quite frankly you will probably relax a little more because the known risks have been avoided.

:) I use that very same equipment a great deal (along with other, similar basic set-ups), and I've been vaping for over four years now. If it works, it works!
