Has anyone/any establishment stopped you from vaping?

Have you gone into a restaurant/bar/etc.. and have had an employee stop you from smoking?

I thought more and more people would know about e-cigs and the vapor they produce, but I've heard a few friends being told that they can't even vape inside the establishment. From what it sounded like, it was just a powerhungry manager
"you can't smoke in here!"

"it's not smoke, it's vapor"

"you can't do that either! "

...?

I can't speak for the U.S. but in the U.K. so far I have not encountered any problems when staying at hotels, in any pub (bar to my American friends), restaurant or café. I have heard of people who have been politely requested not to vape but up to now I have not had a problem.
In April this year I was in hospital and had a part of my left lung removed, thanks to 60 years of smoking, but I was allowed to sit in bed puffing away on my PV. The doctors and consultants expressed the view that they wished that other smokers would pack up analogues and start vaping which would save the National Health Service a fortune.

haha, I understand their point of view but shouldn't they be well versed on the laws and such?

nothing wrong with sneak vaping

Mostly it is not the law, the people who own or run a private establishment have the right to make what ever rules they like within the law, you have the right to choose whether or not to enter their premises.

It is not illegal to wear sneakers in a nightclub but many will refuse you entrance.

The legal position in the U.K. prevents the N.H.S. from getting involved. e-cigs cannot be classed as medicinal or the sellers would need to be licensed to sell the products. If they advocate the use of e-cigs then they could be accused of promoting commercial products. It is such a grey area that they stay well clear.

Our government on the other hand, have woken up to the fact that e-cigs could well be a big money spinner for them and have announced plans to licence the sale of e-cigs, or at least the actual nicotine based juices, starting in 2016. They intend to class them as "over the counter medicines". Which will probably mean that there has to be a qualified pharmacist on the premises in order for them to be sold but, they don't have to be sold at the actual pharmacy counter, as prescription medications must be.
I think they are missing the massive tax revenues which they used to get from the big tobacco companies.

I haven't had any problems vaping in resturants or other places where smoking in not allowed. I just try to be polite and not fill the place up with huge clouds. Vaping is catching on here and people seem to know what it is I'm doing and not have a problem with it. As it stands, vaping is not included in the NY state smoking ban.

ahh, touché

so, here's another question I was curious about. I travel on transatlantic flights pretty often and have never put my ecig in my carry on. Is one allowed to bring that with them? Also, what are the rules on vaping in an airport?
I know RyanAir sells disposables on flights, I don't know if they are proper ecigs though and they are not transatlantic. My advice would be to contact both the airport and airline to check. A smoking electronic device is not a good idea where there are armed and nervous security guards :)

I am looking into getting an e-cig for the very first time. Reading this thread reminded me of the good ol' days when you could literally smoke ANYWHERE. I remember in the 80's you could walk into a grocery store, a convenience store, etc, with a lit cigarette AND when done, toss it on the tile floor and stomp on it to put it out. That was the norm back then. Can you imagine doing that anywhere today? LOL That is one thing I have been curious about with e-cigs, do you have to check with each establishment first if you can use your e-cig or do you just do it and let them tell you otherwise? Even though its just vapor and not smoke or harmful chemicals, most just see it as "smoking" -- mostly those who are uninformed on the e-cig culture nowadays.

so far, i haven't been hassled anywhere. i normally stealth-vape just to avoid this type of thing. i have season tickets to my local soccer/football team and i basically sit in a family section; while i AM keeping it low, no one has said a thing. at the last match a fellow vaper sat a few seats away. he was ripping into his PV and letting out huge clouds of vapor, though he was kinda keeping it hidden in his sleeve. i was wishing he wasn't quite so obvious, as i don't want my spot blown up, but no one said a thing. (he was also giving me PV-envy -- watching his huge clouds while i was hitting this tiny 510-T, looking like a chump xD )

this is the opposite of the OP's question, but i also wanted to say that the casino i frequent (Seneca Niagra, US-side) is also vaping-friendly. you ARE allowed to smoke inside but NOT in the poker room (my haunt)...however you CAN vape! so cool. seeing a couple vapers in there is what really set me on my path to trying it out and giving up the analogs.

I haven't been hassled in our local walmart or resturants. there are 2 resturants out here where I live that still allow smoking inside. as for vaping I vape everywhere but I am also very curtious when around other people. I never stealth vape because it looks like you are doing something wrong. if I was ever asked to not vape I wouldn't while in an establishment

Living in Southern California there are tons of places that I get asked not to vape, mostly in bars and restaurants when security or management tells me that other people will think I am smoking a cigarette and join the fun.

I have also been kicked out of our local county fair for vaping because security thought I was smoking weed. Even after explaining they said that they didn't want parents thinking I was smoking pot around their families....

I have had a few restaurants ask me to stop, but I explained what it was and most people wanted to know more and how they could quit too!

The one time I have actually been ordered to stop was because a parent asked their server what I was doing smoking in the place! The server was educated and explained to her, but she they still said it looks like smoking anyway. So the server said she's not going to force me to stop but the people at that table would appreciate it if I would and not to give vapers a bad name I complied. I've stealth vaped on a flight from Toronto to Alberta and got a few awkward looks but no one said anything.

Things seem to be pretty tight here in SoCal... I asked politely if I might be allowed to vape in a chain steakhouse here, and was promptly told, in no uncertain terms, that I was NOT to vape in this establishment. I get funny looks walking down the street with my Vamo, etc... For a supposedly liberal part of the country people are surprisingly conservative in their views of vaping.
