Has anyone here been successful in weaning down to a lower nicotine level?

I started at 18mg and dropped to 12mg after 2 months without feeling any cravings.
As others have said, it is easier to lower the nic when cigs are long forgotten. I used to love the throat hit of higher nic juices because it reminded me of cigarettes, but a few weeks after I quit smoking I didn't need such a strong hit anymore.

I read an interesting trick on another e-cig forum : buy 2 bottles of your favorite juice, 1 bottle at your current nic level and 1 at a lower level, and peel off the labels!
I didn't try it but I really like the idea.

I had no intentions of dropping my levels, and only did so because the vapor was getting too harsh for my tastes. Started at 36/30mg on cigalikes a few years ago, went back to smoking. Came back with an ego at 30/24 mg. Tried 18, even with rebuildables, went back to 20 when I started to DIY. Then for no reason the vape got too harsh for me, so back to 18. Then to 15, and it's a tad on the harsh side currently (it wasn't at first, it was super mild). I'll probably try 12 soon for all-day vaping, and mix up some 6 for playing with higher-wattage (20+ watts) builds.

For me, the harshness is completely determining how my nicotine level changes. I'd be happy to vape 24mg all day, I just can't any more.

Vaped 18mg for roughly 6 months after my 20+ year PAD Marlboro medium/Turkish Gold habit. Tried dropping to 12mg but kept going back. Rebuildable tanks and drippers solved that problem. 1.5 years later and now I'm quite content with 3mg, though I do keep some 6mg around for special occasions. I dropped down by mixing different nic level juices as some previous posters have mentioned, cutting a little every few weeks or so. But that first switch to rebuildables made the 18 to 12mg drop a piece of cake.

I graduated down to 0mg within my first year of vaping, but it was in gradual increments. A few months at 18mg, then at 12, then hung out between 2 and 6mg until the very end. I had to find the right liquids and the right combination of base liquid + atty + device to really get that satisfying, rich, throaty hit that would produce a dense vapor. For me it was a Silver Bullet with a low-res atty and either PS Tonic "Fire & Ice" or VapeRite "Just Menthol".

Hi Goddess, I have also been successful at weaning my nic level over the last few months. I started with the cigalikes and used them for about 2 years but couldn't get lower than 18 mgs, and I smoked them all the time when not working. I made the switch to the Kanger Mini 2 with a VV eGo Twist and bought 12 mgs right off the bat. I also was vaping quite frequently with the 12 but I just found a method that provides the kick with lower nic. I grabbed the Aspire Atlantis with a Mech Mod and use 6 mg, it's an instant nic rush. I vape a few puffs off of the Atlantis every hour (6 mg) and use the Mini for maintenance in between. This seems to be keeping me at a pretty constant level. Actually, I would probably go overboard if I just used the Mech Mod, it's that hard hitting.

I started at 24, then 18 - sometimes 12, and I'm cool with that. Personally, I think it has a bit to do with your set up. What are you using? I found that I could get away with higher nic juices when I was running an Ego/Clearomizer setup. But when I switched to Mechs & VW/VV Mods with attys etc. that I couldn't handle 24mg anymore - too much of a buzz for me - spinning feeling & nauseous, etc.

Yeah when I started out on cigalikes I was using 24mg and I did that for about 4 or 5 months and then when I got into rebuildables I went from 24mg to 6mg and I don't vape as much as I did on 24mg so I know I've cut my nic intake down a lot. When I'm just chillin at home I can go an hour or 2 without a vape now. I thought I was going to have a hard time adapting to a lower nic level but for me I didn't really make that big of a difference. I feel like I actually crave it less than I did when I was smoking.

My method was simple really after 42 yrs PAD. I started with 24mg and mech mod and 80/20 pg/vg. Started with LR cartos back then.
As time went on lowered my nic while raising the voltage(older) wattage(newer) as a sort of compensation.
Over time I kept doing the same and then started lowering the watts when the nic got to around 3, then started
increasing vg and lowering pg.
It can be gradual and IMHO should be in order to have a lasting effect. I did not want to drop too fast and let myself think..Ha this isn't working either and go back to the stinkies ..AGAIN!

well wouldn't call it weaning down, but started at 24mg nic, and now vape 12mg nic. But it had more to do with acquiring better vape gear and learning to build and wick better, and a big increase of watts vaped at. I had to drop the nic or walk around dazed and confused for 1/2 hour or so. :D

I have no desire to stop using nic, and my goal is to maintain Total Vape Satisfaction. But if that was me goal, would just mix each batch at 1-2 mg lower nic. I mix DIY juice, so it's easy to customize the juice. Would probably keep some Stronger nic juice for when it's really needed.

Best of luck with you vape goal objectives.

I started smoking 33 years ago and when I switched to vaping I was up to 2&1/2 packs a day of Newports. My first vape was an itaste vv with a mini pro tank 3 and 24mg. of nicotine. Within a week I knew that 24 was too much and went to 18. After a month of not one puff from an analog, I celebrated with a mech mod and an RDA and a bottle of 6mg and have not looked back since. I find the larger hit and warmer vapor that comes with sub ohm builds satisfies me far more than the smaller hits from the pro tank. I am very mechanical, and find myself drawn to the tinkering aspect also, which keeps me from thinking about the analogs at all. No sense in going back up if 6 mg. does the job. If you adjust as you are comfortable and don't try to force it, you will be much more likely to succeed IMHO.

I started smoking about 20 years ago and am very new to this vaping world .... started with 12 (nic) and found it too strong so after a couple of days went down to 6 which has been perfect. I do hope to go down to 3 soon but after reading some of these posts I'm not sure it will be that easy. Ideally I'd like to vape at 0 nic ... good to be on this forum and read others experiences.

The secret to a successful taper is doing it as slow as possible. IMO the only way to do this is with DIY juice.

I started off at 12mg/mL of juice and reduced it by 1mg every couple of weeks till I got to 6mg. From there I began cutting it down by 0.5mg. I did have some set backs when I tried to taper to quickly or during stressful weeks when I felt I needed the Nicotine. However now I'm currently at 3mg. I've been vaping for a little over a year now. I haven't been tapering for most of the time, but I feel I've made good progress.

My advice is to not rush the process. If withdrawal symptoms are affecting you in any moderate fashion then increase your intake. There's nothing more annoying then finding yourself smoking again and having to restart everything, because you were to impatient to taper correctly.

My calculations say I should be done tapering before next February, but I have a feeling I won't be finished till the middle of next year. It'll be fine because this process has been pain free.

I started with 24 and then I went lower and lower but in very small steps. I lower it to 23, 22 etc. It takes a bit of time and patience. The biggest step was from 12 to 6 when I first started dripping. The intensity of dripping made me go from 12 to 3 in one month. Now 3 is the most I can take and I kinda combine it with zero nicotine to make it acceptable.
I found that absolute zero nicotine is the tastiest vape I ever tried. But I admit that in the morning with the coffee is good 3 for about half hour. Late evenings I can't take any nicotine at all. I have hiccups, no kiddin.
Anyway I will never ever ever never smoke again.

Actually... I've continually gone the other way, increased my nic and added WTA, so I can vape less but remain satisfied -- my asthma thanks me by not making me wheeze so much. Instead of 6mg, 8ml per day, or 9mg-10mg at 5ml per day, I'm now vaping between 11 and 12mg, with WTA, about 2 ml per day. It's helping my asthma a lot, to knock off the chain vaping.

I wasn't a heavy smoker when I started vaping, but I wanted the enjoyment of vaping to be pleasant enough to keep me from hitting the analogs hard. And it seems to have worked. All my juice is between 0 - 3 mg and I'm very satisfied and have no craving for analogs.

It's interesting. When I first started vaping, I enjoyed trying flavors at the local B&M where they sample everything at 6mg. Now that I've cut back so much, the 6mg samples seem really harsh! Not necessarily unpleasant, but harsh. Guess I don't need the nic!

In my opinion, slow and steady won me over. And the different flavors. If i switched flavors up frequently, I was a lot less bored and got more enjoyment with less nic.
