I posted something on this topic on a similar thread the other day, but it's worth repeating here as well. After about 30 years of smoking, I finally got fed up with the expense, smell, and constant worry about getting some kind of smoking-related illness. So when a work colleague mentioned that her brother bought an e-cig, which I never heard of before, I started my research. A month later (Nov. 2009), I bought my first one - an unbranded Volcano-type L88b with a PCC.

I liked it well enough, but the short battery life and frequent refilling were pretty serious drawbacks, so while I used the e-cig during work hours, I often found myself going back to analogs at home.

I decided to try a beefier battery, but I was still liking more of a normal cigarette look, so I bought an RN4081. Huge improvement in battery life and time between refills, especially with an extra capacity cartridge.

Still, I kept going back and forth between analogs and the e-cig. Sometimes I would go weeks without an analog, then I'd go out to meet friends at a bar or something, and rather than lug all my e-cig "stuff" around (PCC, extra carts, extra battery, bottle of juice), I'd buy a pack of smokes for the night.

This past summer, I went back to analogs 100%. By late-August, I was asking myself, "What the heck am I doing?" At $10 per pack, I could think of much cheaper ways to slowly poison myself. So I decided to ditch the analogs once-and-for-all and stick to the e-cig.

But I still hated the idea of having to carry all that stuff with me. So I began looking into juice feeder box mods. I chose one of the least expensive to give it a try - a Wetbox. And let me tell you, this has finally made all the difference for me.

My last analog was Sept. 13th. My Wetbox arrived the next day. I know it's not been long, but I have no craving at all for analogs. The Wetbox eliminated the need to haul lots of e-cig supplies around, and I am getting a good, solid throat hit and lots of vapor with every drag. I have been moderately vaping for a solid 24 hours, with no refilling or swapping of batteries. I am one happy camper.

I can't say I've quit, yet - I think my milestone for that statement will be one month. But I finally found the variety of e-cig that I feel will enable me to stay off analogs forever. I don't currently have any in the house, so there is no temptation.

For anyone on the fence about e-cigs, I say go for it. And if you spend a lot of time out of the house, especially driving, get a juice feeder like the Wetbox (or the Ali'i, or the UMP - a bottom fed model seems to be the best option). I honestly don't think you'll regret it.

I wish all potential quitters the very best of luck. It ain't easy, and the e-cig might not get you off nicotine, but it really does provide the best alternative to smoking. And for me, who loved smoking, that's good enough.

I am a GUY from L.A. not girl. lol
Yup, since July 5th(except for 6 Kreteks when all my attys died), when I got my 510. I really have no desire to go back to cigs. This is too much fun, and tastes alot better. I never intended to quit smoking, I just wanted to be able to do so indoors. This site(and getting ahold of a better PV than the 7-11 xhaleo2) convinced me to get rid of the cigs all together.

but I finally converted 100% over to ecigs on August 27th, 2010. I think a lot had to do with the better quality of ecigs and juice now then in the earlier days. What a difference in my wallet now  not to mention my lungs. Just stick with it and eventually it gets easier and easier. It is nice to be be able to taste and smell things again.

I have been smoking e-cigs for almost 3 weeks and haven't had a real cigarette in almost a week now. I have no desire to either. I almost can't believe it.
I have smoked for about 24 yrs - 1 pack to pack and a 1/2 a day and have never tried quitting or even stopped for so much as one day. Based on that I was looking for a "substitute". I am totally amazed and so are all my friends. I am the type of person people thought would NEVER quit.

I started vaping 14 months ago. I had been a 15 cigarette a day for 23 years. Within 2 weeks, I had cut my analog usage by 80% (only smoking 2-3 per day) I thought I just had to have a real one after meals, yet I believed this was more of a psychological, as opposed to a physical need. I was confident that I'd be able to quit, in time, but didn't pressure myself. I'm happy to report that I had my last real cig on Aug. 24, 2010! 14 months may seem like a long time, but everybody is different. The point is, I did stop and the electronic cigarette made it possible:) The key for me was having one right ready and grabbing it the minute I was finished eating. My brain had been telling me that nothing would satisfy mypost-meal craving like a real one, but that was not the case AT ALL. The body is only after the nicotine, in a cigarette, not the other 3,999 ingredients and the e-cig delivers (more than you need, if you like high strength)! My doctor, family and friends are sooooo happy and all the smoking related maladies i had (ie, chronic bronchitis, wheezing, horrific coughing attacks and over abundance of phlegm) are completely gone:)

Just wondering how many people have completely quit smoking, for how long, and how they feel in comparison.
I have smoked for about 12 years and have cut back from a pack a day to 8 cigs a day, so i think with the ecig I can stop completely, but my husband smokes alot and has a really bad smoker's cough, so I'm hoping if he can quit on these.

I quit my 15 year habit of a pack and a half a day on ecigs with no problem...my mom has switched completly from 2 pack a day habit to completley vaping.

I can smell everything now...things i never smelled before....i can pick out a smoker from 15 feet away. I don't cough up black shizz anymore, infact i don't really cough much at all. the only downside is i don't like bud light lime anymore...regular bud light will have to do.

The trick is to find a Pv atty and juice combo that you can not live without...for me that is the duraC, the ego, w/510 attys, and pretty much any 555 juice i've tried. Wich is odd cuz i've never tried a 555 analog, if thats even a brand....i'm not sure. I was a duMaurier kind of guy.

For me, it was the hour or two right after work that was the hardest for me. I can't smoke at work, and my daily schedule makes it almost impossible to get out for a smoke break, so by the end of the day, I was seriously Jonesing. I can't vape at work, either, but at least the e-cig provided enough of a kick to satisfy that need.

I'm in this thread twice! I quit real cigarettes! I'm almost completely off my e-cig too. I only e-cig for a few hours in the evening .....I was two packs a day for 30 yrs..oh yeah, one more thing, I've been on no nic juice for a month at least.....I mix my own no nic juice with vg and cherry vodka...I'm getting closer everyday to not needing the e-cig at all. I was determined not to replace one "vice" with another.

I know what you mean about replacing one vice with another, I was reluctant about it at the beginning. For me it's either this or analogs so I'd rather vape, not sure about long term effects as they seem to be unproven as yet but I'm feeling much better since I've been off the analogs.

But seriously, well done rusty!! Keep up the great work!

for a lot of us, it's all in your head. just remember, you weren't born with a cigarette in you mouth, with some help and determination, you should be able to live AGAIN without smoking or vaping...

that's my cow dog "lucky"

I stopped smoking my Winstons in June of this year. I started vaping at the same time. I have not picked up another cigarette since. I think I tried one or two in the first two weeks of quitting. Could get maybe 3 puffs before I squished it out.

I initially started out vaping 36mg, now I'm down to 18mg.

This is after 20 years of smoking around 1.5 packs a day. I had never tried to quit before, but I had gotten to a point with the constant lung congestion that something had to go.

I think the only "quitting symptom" I've experienced is the increase in acne and weight gain. I've not coughed up dark / black goo at all. The boyfriend (who also switched to vaping with me) said he did. I'm vaguely worried that I didn't, although folks say not everyone does.

I no longer have morning cough, and its awesome not having to worry about huddling in the rain/outside to get my "fix".

I am perturbed about the weight gain, though. And I -really- need to be better about drinking more water. That being said, I don't think I could go back to "real" cigarettes again.

Drinking more water will help with the weight gain, since you'll feel more full. Carrot and celery sticks are good to nosh on, too, as they have few calories (celery is said to have NEGATIVE calories - you burn more calories eating celery than celery has to begin with!)

I found the weight gain to be a non-issue because I also dropped carbs when I quit smoking. Carbs, especially chips and salsa, were my weakness and what I wanted all the time when I quit smoking cold turkey. So now, just to be safe, it's no smokes AND no carbs. Just vaping.
