I think it's more none of us want to deal with the emotional maturity process again.

Well, that too. My bride-to-be says roughly the same thing... though I like to think I make up for the difference in years between us by managing to stay very immature for my age.

Some more off topic conversation. Was talking with my nurse friends and we are all mostly the same age, 40's, and general consensus is, if we were to re-marry at this point we'd go for an older man.

But not 40 yrs older! More like 10...

Not so busy here today.

It takes longer for men to quit being boys. :) Sad, but true.

In reality...nothing 73. I'll go out and buy me a piano this afternoon and I'll give you free tickets to my first concert. :)

In an odd way, I'm kinda scared to start piano. I'm afraid it would consume me at the expense of everything else I should be doing in my life. A piano sounds like a good retirement hobby.

General, I also dream of being able to play the piano. I was one of those rare kids that actually WANTED to take piano lessons, but we didn't have a piano and couldn't afford one, and couldn't have afforded the lessons if we did have one.

I have a keyboard and bought a DVD series called "Learn and Master the Piano". It's good, but I got busy and quit practicing. I think I would need a real teacher and real lessons to actually learn much. I just want to be able to play a little.

How great would it be to be able to play like this?

I understand. It will take a lot of time if you want to play well. The piano is structured in a linear manner. The notes progress left to right down the keyboard. The guitar is basically the same but you have 6 strings each with their own linear progression and every 5th fret between 2 strings are the same notes. As you work up the fret board the octaves change. I spent many many hours and a couple of years learning some basics and that on my own.

There are the other words that make "old" sit better. Vintage, steeped, antique. Well, maybe not antique.

Older guys are, well, old.

We don't get old, we get better. ;)

When I see SRV play it makes me want to sell my gear and give up. Bad attitude maybe but I know I'll never reach that level without spending 10+ hours a day practicing. I did know one person who started playing piano at 50 now works at a piano store. He plays very well.

I think we all knew someone in high school who could tear up a guitar with their ability. Most of us can tear one up but then it is unuseable after that.

I enjoy playing my acoustic guitar most. It can be a very relaxing time just strumming chords slowly and making things up. When I plug in my electric I turn into a wanna be blues player or crank up the gain, set the amp on Fender Twin with monsterous distortion. I will sometimes open the window to let the noise escape. Probably sends the neighbors back inside when I do that.
I'd break my fingers Pap!

I just want to play nice, peaceful, pretty piano music. :)
