HHV’s GOLLUM – Initial Impressions

Per HHV description: Gollum is an extracted tobacco that has a deep flavor profile, highlighted by plum and raisin notes with a deep, rich honey tobacco base that combines for a tobacco vaping experience that is a walk on the dark side compared to our other Purity tobacco extracts.

Sampled, 1mL at 70/30 (PG/VG), 18mg nicotine in a Kanger M3 clearomizer (1mL capacity), aprox. 2.0 ohms at 3.7 volts. This juice was shipped 48 hours prior.

Smell: Very little. What I could smell seemed like the raisin coming out. Sight: Significantly darker than most of HHV’s juices including the popular Gandalf. Looks like my Vapin’ Chimp when I received it.

My first quest in trying a juice for the first time is to see if I detect any perfume or floral as these flavors make me want to vomit (sorry for the graphic) and I simply have to put it down because I cannot vape perfume or floral AT ALL!. I am happy to report, Gollum has no hint of either of these. ZERO!

Vape Production: Similar to the other HHV tobaccos. Throat Hit: Similar to the other HHV tobaccos.

H & A’s signature appears to be all over this vape. It has that same mysterious, smooth, robust, weighty flavor that we find in all their tobacco flavors. After the first 15 pulls or so, I thought the flavor was light…not much flavor at all. After my wicks got primed and the steam was rising from my clearo, the flavor started to punch. The tobacco does not come out as the predominant flavor once again. But it’s there as a base flavor to be sure. The flavor that came to the forefront was the raisin. It seems the raisin and tobacco became friends immediately as these two flavors really combine nicely with the raisin taking the lead. I’m not getting much plum, but I suspect that is shaping the flavor in subtle ways that I cannot define…perhaps giving the flavor a bit of life. I’m also not getting the honey flavor, but again, I’m guessing that is knocking out any grassy notes that the extracted tobacco might be providing. My impression is that Heather wants us to know there is raisin in this juice without being obnoxious about it. This is not a particulary sweet flavor but there is enough sweet in it to know this is not earthy, woodsy, or grassy (whatever term you prefer). With regard to sweetness level, ever taste an unsugared raisin or prune? There you go. This raisin, plum, honey, extracted tobacco combination seems made for each other.

So in conclusion, my initial impressions suggest that H & A’s description of Gollum is very close. I very much enjoyed my first experience with Gollum. Absolutely NOTHING offensive about it which tells me the flavor will only grow on me as more steep time and more flavor acquisition takes place. As is, this is easily reordeable as it stands. I will vape this every day or every other day for a week or more to see how the experience evolves. But, Gollum is positioned to be a big winner and an outstanding vape IMHO.

Awesome. Sounds great. Especially after its sat and all those flavors meld into each other. Hmmm I'm stalking the mailman as I type. Tracking says today for delivery but my wife had just reminded me that being out in the boonies were usually a day behind. So I may just be envying this review for another day. :(

So the wife wants me to refill her clearo. A 1.5mL clearo lasts her at least two days. So I asked if she wanted another flavor. Said she liked the JC I keep giving her. I told her she needs to try other flavors too. So I'm fixing her two clearos and she can go to the JC if the other flavor doesn't work out. I was going to fill up the second one with Gollum. But then I thought about it and said HELL NO!!!!! I have only 14mg and that stuff is precious (pun intended). So I'm going to give her the Gandalf instead. That's also precious, but I have 48mL of that. She almost caught me at a weak moment. That, or my recent memory of Gollum was that good.

Just wanted to post a note here really for myself.

According to this thread I got my order of Gandalf in on the 14th today it finally became vapeable for me. So for my own future reference dont touch it for at least 5 days after you get it ...It will just keep getting better from here.

5 days aint bad :p

ok back to whatever you all were doing.

Thanks DI! I know lots of folk are anxious to hear about this. Very good review. Please follow up in a few when it's had more steeping time as we all know Heather's magic dust keeps working for days!

Hey Bronze, so you think Gollum is as good as Gandalf?

I wish I could answer that. I vaped only 1mL of 48-hour old Gollum this morning so it's way, way, way too early to say one way or the other. It needs to steep for another several days or week so we can be sure it is "settled" in. The flavor could move and we have to allow it that time before we go ranking it or comparing it to other flavors (I purposely did not compare it to any other flavor in my initial impressions...other than color). I can say this though, that Gollum initiation was VERY VERY VERY promising. Not only because it was good, but because it was unique in its own right. But let's all work with this juice for a week or so and let's see where it goes. Others will be getting their samples soon so they'll have a chance at their first impressions too. Sorry I can't answer your question.

Have you tried the Dragon's Fire yet?

No, and I'm dying to try it. I have all I can do to keep from busting into that bottle. I also have Horse Barn (or whatever it's called...my memory is horrible), Oopma, and the Vapin' Chimp. I was going to wait till friday to start sampling them. I find I have only a 2 per day capacity on samples. My tongue gets confused and I start wanting to vape something I like. Which ones should I start out with? BTW, I plan on sampling the Caramel Apple Tobacco tomorrow since I have 15mL of it. That one had a real nice smell to it so I'm anxious to try it out. I just hope it's not too desserty.

Heather is brilliant. Awesome strategy. Think about it, the Heather's Heavenly Vapes thread stays at the top of the e-liquid general discussion board on ECF darn near all day every day. People are buying up her juice like crazy. And it's good stuff. Then...SHAZAM...they develop several more juices in the blink of an eye like magic. People go crazy to sample them and keep her orders flowing out of her computer. The cycle continues. Bloody brilliant. :toast:

I've got enough juice for a long while. The boy needs Christmas gifts, then braces. Credit card is on lockdown. Luckily, I've stockpiled some of the best, so I'll put the new juices from HHV on a list and file it away for later. :vapor:
