Eleanor! You're up early or very very late. Let me see, Roanoke Island... hmmm... I dunno! Maybe the Vikings come down from Canada and bought them out with their Capital One cards.... happy Discoverer's Day

 Nah, Bronze was quizzing us on the first Brit colony in what is now the USA. He thought most people would say Jamestown. I think most people would say Plymouth Colony the Pilgrims. :)grr:) Of course, both answers are incorrect. ;)

P.S. I'm up waaaaay too late.

The first English colony in the New World was the Roanoke Colony, it was abandoned and the colonists never found, it was founded 1585. I have a very old paper back book about all the first colonies in the U.S. and remember reading about it.
I did have to go look it up, took me a few hours to find that book.
It's so old that it's falling apart.

Hey Bronze, WAKE UP!!! :laugh::evil:

You still haven't given us the history of the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island! :p (And you promised!)

Yup. :thumb: Why the entire colony vanished is a mystery -- but it was probably the local Indians.

This reminds me of that great Fred Willard scene from Best in Show:

Doctor, question that's always bothered me and a lot of people: Mayflower, combined with Philadelphia - a no-brainer, right? Cause this is where the Mayflower landed. Not so. It turns out Columbus actually set foot somewhere down in the West Indies. Little known fact.

Every scene of his in that flick made me crack up.

They could have been killed by the Indians, they already had problems with them over a silver cup.
They could have just left the fort and joined local tribes and were just never found.
Or they tried to make it back to England and died or made it and never said anything.
I only have part of that paper book but it had a lot of info in it. I need to see if I can track a copy of it down, but that might be a problem as the cover and the first few pages are missing so I do not know the name of it or who printed it.
It's over 30 years old.

Smithsonian channel on cable TV has a program on that colony. Haven't caught it myself but they'll probably air it again soon, given the holiday.

Robin, when you get back I have a question. How do you only order one sample pack of 4? My last order (placed last night) was over $50.00 :glare: But I first ordered 2 sample packs and have not done that again.

I am now ordering what I like in 30 ml and the ones I want to try in their small size (forget the ml)

Anyone else do this?

On my order I placed on Saturday, I ordered two (2) sample packs, and then larger sizes of Gandalf, Heavenly tobacco, Gollum and Java Smooth. I figured I can vape a 3ml sample each day for 8 days. That gives the larger bottles over a week to steep, and I've got plenty of other juice if I need to let them steep even longer.

Edit: I'm really tempted to order some Dipity today and ask them to ship it together with my other order. But they are so swamped with orders, I don't want to make things more confusing for them. I'll just order the Dipity next time.

Fear! Plain and simple. When/if I find a vender where I like most of the juices, then and only then will I order larger sizes. So far I have not hit it. I'm totally hoping this one will be the one. By coming on these sites and reading all the sub forums, I am seeing that HHV have more people that like their stuff rather than dislike. Even those that they don't care for are not un-vapable (if that is a word) and eventually grow on them. I'm trying to do this juice finding logically.

That's a very smart way to approach it. I've bought far too many bottles of juice in large sizes because they sounded good and someone said it was great, only to find that I didn't care for it or grew tired of it quickly.

There's plenty of time to order larger bottles once you figure out what you like.

I'm thinking their house line might be a little more to my liking than HHV. More of a "tobacco on its own" type of approach. Still, you never know.

Quick nic makes two nice NETs that I like...Grandpa's Night Cap and Habana Daydream. I put them in the "All Tobacco" category. Smooth and mild cigar type.

I am so proud of my fellow Armyites for researching the Lost Colony at Roanoke Island. On Columbus Day, it is a great topic. I think El and Z-Ghost gave it due diligence and my input is no longer required. But let me add one more related question. Who was it that surveyed the east coast before that first colony was established? And why did it takes so long for the Brits to return to Roanoke Island to check on their colony?
