I see all of the celebrity talk, and this probably doesn't count, but I met Charles Bronson in the 90's, he was a very nice guy. I grew up with my parents watching his movies...I can't recall the name of the series of movies he had that made him popular once upon a time....anyway, Hi everyone :)

My guess is you are referring to the Death Wish movies! They are classics in the genre of .... kickin movies! #3 was my favorite, I think, if that was the one where he "trained" the regular citizens to fight back!

Probably Death Wish through Death Wish V.

Hated 'em, but as a child of the 70's at least the first one was pretty much mandatory.

I was just outside myself (also in shorts) this is why I could never leave :) Moving is a pain, but it will be worth it when you are all settled in...

I always liked Eastwood a lot more than Bronson. Maybe just a taste thing. I liked the Dirty Harry characters, I liked him as Josey Wales, and in High Plains Drifter. Recently I thought Gran Torino was very good from him, too. He struck me as a more credible stone cold bad :censored: killer type.

I like ham too,
even green eggs and ham.
I do so like green eggs and ham,
Thank you, thank you, Sam I am.

And, for the trifecta, I think you're beautiful. And I live in San Francisco. When a guy in San Francisco says you're beautiful, he's serious about it.

Bwahahahaha! I'll take your word for it.

Cyclops thanks y'all!! Who originated that nick-name for me anyway?!

I would have to agree. I like Eastwood better too....my favorites would have to be..Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, Sam Elliott, Russell Crowe, Liam Neeson...That list would be pretty long lol

Agreed on Gary Oldman as well. I would also like to submit for your considerations Benicio Del Toro and Philip Seymour Hoffman as other fine character actors of our generation.

I saw PSH playing Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman on Broadway. He was absolutely spine-tingling good, in spite of being about 20 years too young for the role. He made you buy him as a broken-down old man.

I can thoroughly NOT recommend watching Detachment. If you aren't 100% emotionally secure, it ain't for you, though it was very well done. Except for one brief scene near the end, it's without a doubt one of the bleakest, depressing movies ever made. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

The most relentlessly sad and depressing movie for me was The House of Sand and Fog. with Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. After watching I wanted to go jump off the nearest bridge. Very well made but an utter downer.
Hmmm...my favorites Russell Crowe, Clive Owen, Keneth Branagh, Denzel Washington, Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins and among many other older timers John Wayne and Brian Dennehy.

Hmmm, I'm not a huge Pacino fan but my list is pretty similar. I would add Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, and Christian Bale.

The first movie actor I ever had a crush on was Christopher Plummer in The Sound of Music, and 60 years later he is still a damn fine looking man and a great actor. He was wonderful as Mike Wallace in The Insider and I also loved him in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Speaking of GWTDT, Rooney Mara instantly became my favorite modern actress with that amazing, fearless, totally unselfconscious performance.

Hello everyone, been away from this thread a week or so, no way I'm gonna try to keep up ! Spent this sunday starting up the garden, Cabbage, Broccoli & Onions in today. This after watching my favorite team win the Super Bowl last sunday !
If your naming actors, start with the Duke and Ah-nold, then go from there :2c:

Like a lot of those guys. Not sure why Russell Crowe is only good for me in a certain type role. Liked him in Gladiator, not so much in Master and Commander (although the character did have a decent arc). He was abysmal in "Les Miserables", although Ann Hathaway was the only one it that that I thought was better than okay, so maybe it was a direction/script/production thing. Tom Hanks is not my favorite, but he has done some really nice work and I see not mention of him in this, so I will mention his acting. My issues with Hanks start when he gets off script and starts running that pie hole of his politically.

As for actresses, I also have enjoyed the acting from Helen Mirren, and Catherine Hepburn, and in the younger group (say under 40) Natalie Portman is the clear best in my book (lets put the Star Wars performances on Lucas, shall we?). I also find Kate Beckinsale's work to be enjoyable, I am not sure she has fully "carried" a film yet, but she is young and her looks may keep her from being taken as seriously as she might be, although Portman has faced the same issue and dealt with it without much trouble.
