Hope your mom recovers soon and that it isn't shingles but if it is, that it's a very, very mild outbreak. That dastardly illness can be unbelievably painful and lasts for months - and sometimes the peripheral neuropathy never really goes away. And please look after yourself too - shingles shots are available nowadays at the local drugstore.

It was another vacation day for me. Of course I had the Awards Day at school, then I took Mom to the doctor. I swear I still think she has shingles, and the doc almost agreed, but he didn't give her treatment for it. Just some muscle relaxers and pain meds and cream. My Dad had an MRI scheduled today as well and I offered to go with him but he said I've done enough! Mom told him you should really take her...she even fills out all the paperwork! (wink)

I will never ever NOT be there for my loved ones ever again like I did my cat! NEVER! So I filled up my gas can, and my mini beer fridge in the basement is fully stocked. Grass mowing awaits me. My front yard looks like a field with knee high weeds and yellow flowers and fluffy things and all sorts of weedy stuff. I wish I was that lottery winner. I'm so tired of working for a living. :D

No.

AVG free download is juuust fine. Windows Defender should be on and working in the background. You can go to both Kaspersky and TrendMicro for free virus scans and "house calls" Of course, as with all security programs, they're only as good as the operator's allowing for automatic updates and a frequent scanning schedule. :)

OK computer geeks...another question.

Any reason to spend $40/year on a name brand antivirus (McAfee, Norton). I have had McAfee for years but wonder how necessary it is.

I would think Windows Defender alone would be good enough. No?

Thanks to all for checking on me. I'm not posting any more about the news. It's not good, and I'm not watching. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Did new wicks tonight just to give myself something else to think about.

In the dark over here about OKC... That no cable TV thing that I have going on keeps me out of the loop. I'm glad you are OK Bridgey.

No cable tv? My family would divorce me. For real.

I use AVG free and am careful where I go and what I do. I have not had any issues.

From KMOD radio via FB in Tulsa:

Crews say it's no longer search & rescue mission at Moore elementary, now just recovery. Possibly 24 children still inside.

The toll is at 51 so far; I really need a break from this news. The threat's now over for OK, right, Bridget? What's left is just dealing with the terrible aftermath?

Edit: Oh, jeez, I responded to the wrong page. Didn't see there were a load more posts. Haven't done that since I was a newbie. Questions were answered, too. So sorry:facepalm:.

McAfee actully wants $90/yr for their online crap. I refuse when I know I can get it for $40 at the store. I just email them and tell them to give it to me for the store price or I will go elsewhere. They always give it to me. They also put you on an auto renewal without telling you (for $90). Sneaky bastiches!

Also, I call my cable once a year and tell them to give me their promo pricing. They do (or combo of reduced pricing and added stuff).

These places take advantage of long time customers and just give the goodies to lure in new sheep.

They have more big weather predicted for tomorrow. Those poor people. I don't even want to think how scared those poor children were in that school.

For anyone who has never been in a tornado or seen one up close, you have no idea how enormous and scary they are.

AVG will cover your needs well, especially if you stay away from the 1-900 sites...

Get AVGfree not the others

I've had massive problems with AVG, getting it fully un-installed was only one of them. I've been on AVAST ever since. Everything is hunky-dory, and I don't go to questionable websites. All my passwords are different from each other and as long and complicated as allowed. There is a good reason why AVAST gets far more downloads per week on CNET than AVG does. Speaking of viruses and H4©K3r$...

I was reading the OUTSIDE! thread that had all the hullabaloo last night/early this morning. It had an awful lot of people reading it for a closed thread. I'm glad I wasn't in on that poo storm, I would have gotten all kinds of wound up at best. At worst some evil people out there in the interwebverse could have made me one of their targets. Pretty freaky stuff going on, I hope you're in the clear Robin. Every single time I post something in an OUTSIDE! thread I eventually regret it. That's where I got my one and only warning from a moderator. I've been paranoid ever since, and that goes 10 fold for FB.

LOL! There was a month or so of annoyance, but everyone has adapted. We do have Hulu and Netflix running thru the Wii. I hated that bill, and the nagging for them to turn it off and do homework. We also had a family member involved in a legal case that was picked up by many news shows, and they portrayed her in a not so flatteringly manner. The girls stumbled onto it one day and I was on the phone canceling it 5 min later. It was the final straw.

The story out of Oklahoma is so sad. Our entire state was struck with tons of tornadoes two years ago, including the one that hit Tuscaloosa and surrounding towns. It was like the entire state was lambasted. Coworkers of mine lost everything and are still reeling from it. Recovery is still continuing. The Tuscaloosa tornado came within 15-20 miles of my home although I'm very far away from Tuscaloosa. I was picking up debris from my yard, bills and paperwork and personal items, from people with addresses in Tuscaloosa. Building materials raining down. Surreal. My coworker got a call from someone in Georgia who had personal items of hers...it had traveled that far. I remember watching the tornado hitting Tuscaloosa and I was crying and told my son people are being killed in that thing. I feel so bad for those parents and children and others in Oklahoma.

I got a friend who lives in Hoover, AL. His daughter went to U of Alabama. The place where she lived just a school year prior got demolished by those tornadoes.

We are all definitely "gun shy" now from any threat of severe weather. I almost had a come apart that day straight line winds hit my house and I was trying to drive home in horrendous winds and my son was home alone. Mom's house was first and my house is about 10 miles away and I was talking to her when it hit. Then I called my son. I relived that earlier in my head. Just telling him to listen to me, go now and go fast into the basement, go to the corner deep in the basement, hunker down and cover your head, and that I loved him and was on my way. Then the phone went out. Just terrifying. An EF-1 tornado the morning of the Tuscaloosa one hit right between my Mom's house and my brother's house. Right between them. Lots of damage but everyone was fine. This one today was MASSIVE. My gosh how awful.
