Well done with all your purchases :)

As for the Vivi tank as others, have said it takes a little time to break in, try it again when you have time and yes you really need the collar, it looks soooooooooo much better with one and it supports the tank.

I don't think anyone answered your question about turning the twist off and on, I only turn mine off when I put it in my purse to carry it, if you are using it and put it down for 30 mins don't worry about turning it off, it uses very little of the battery power if anything and makes life a little easier when you need the next hit on it.

@Hydrophoid - based on your post, I just want to be clear so I don't mess it up - In emergencies when I run out of liquid, I can buy the 5 pack of disposable cartos at Walgreens and screw them on my ego-twist, but I just have to set the volts at 3.2? And this is compatible and won't kill my battery, correct?
:vapor:

That is right, I just pop one on and turn the voltage down. I usually turn it up a bit if it is not hitting properly, just make sure you turn it down to start with. The coil is just a piece of resistive wire that will allow the voltage to pass through and create heat.

If you ever do end up buying them keep the cartos, you can refill them in an emergency with a syringe. I have done it successfully just messing around.

Also, I have some debrigged attomizers I use for dripping, and I suspect that if I popped the ring off the top of one (the hole where you suck through, my regular drip tips would fit on. I am going to try using a dental pic to pull the stuffing out and take a look but I suspect they are all the same inside and once they are finished with the original juice, there is nothing better to do with them than recycle em.

The clearos taste weird to me too, but they work great for driving our running around. Some others have stated the break in already, and I agree. Not sure the wire they put in em but on some wire the first few vape sessions will produce a metal taste till the wire gets broke in. I tolerate the taste for convince, but I have almost completely stopped using my clearomizers in favor of my phoenix for dripping (this one has a big space in the bottom for filling so it is kind of dripping but not really, it lasts a good 15 mins of total vape drive home from work) and vivi tank (using stainless steel mesh as a wick). Those 2 are rebuildable, and require some more learning though its not too hard.

As far as cleaning the clearos, you got good advice, I also just use a hot water rinse on all the parts. I did dry burn but it can char the wick a bit if you are not careful so keep that in mind. After charring my wick one time, I just started letting them air dry over night with all parts disassembled.

In reading through your thread I do not remember anyone telling you to keep juice out of reach of children or pets. Your juice is poisonous can can be adsorbed through the skin, so ensure you wash off spills and keep em put up someplace. I am sure you already know that, but it is worth repeating.

Its great to hear you have greatly reduced your cig intake, if you can avoid them for about 5 or 6 days they should taste pretty foul (I didn't smoke menthol unless they were bummed to me so not sure if the mint covers up that horrible taste or not though).

Good luck to you.

Thanks 4 all the answers and links. That really helps.

Yesterday I ended up smoking about 9 real cigs. I was hoping to do less, but at least it's better than my usual 30. Had only 1 today so far when I woke up this morning - I needed the quick fix, ya know? Hopefully today I can do less analogs than yesterday.

I showed my wife the atty, carto, and clearo's so she could try and see what she likes. She's a light smoker (maybe 10 cigs a day.) At first, she liked the atty the best, but she didn't like the TH. Then she liked the vivi and used that, but again, she didn't like the TH so she set the ego at 3.2. There's hardly any vapor at that setting, so she's not happy. I think my juice is too strong for her, so once we get the sample juice packs hopefully there will be something smoother for her.

Well, I had my first "accident." I was swapping tops and had the Vision clearo on. (Yes, I think the taste was getting a little better after using it more often, and on the vivi too.) But I went to unscrew it (without my glasses on), and instead of unscrewing the whole clearo from the ego, I unscrewed the base of the clearo by accident. Splash! Juice all over the place!

Put it back together, filled it up again, but now I get juice coming through the mouthpiece constantly. I blew it out, emptied it again, refilled it, still the same. I messed it up, now it's trash I guess.

Anyway, no doubt at all - the atty is my fav, but - I used the Vivi when watching TV last night. Too dark for me to drip constantly since my eyes suck.

One more thing, I don't know why, but I often have juice run down the mouthpiece of the atty onto my lips and tongue. I'm only using 2 drops at a time, and I only refill when all the taste is gone. And there's no leaking near the battery connection. So, yes, I have another couple of newbie questions:

- When you guys get juice in your mouth, do you wash your mouth out with water? That's what I did, just to be safe. But maybe I'm being overly paranoid about it?

- Why is juice running back into my mouth? Am I dripping wrong?

BTW, congrats @MaxP on your Provari & HH357 setup! Yes, @Hydro, hid everything from the kids last night, just in case. Great instructions and answers @Debadoo, @MiamiMom63, @Yves & @Hydro. :toast:

@MaxP - Some of us are just "closet" bikers. I've got my cycle license but haven't rode in years. But once a biker..... :2cool:

The only time I don't ride my bike is if there is ice on the road lol. Then I drive the trusty pick-em-up-truck. But the 42 average (city/highway) mpg vs the 10mpg (less up hills and I live in the mountains) keeps me from driving the truck to much.

About the fluid in your mouth. What position do you hold your device will vapeing? Atty don't have much "retention" of the liquid and if you drip in it and hold it upside down or even at a slant with the tip being the lowest position it will allow the juice to run out of it. While vaping just try to make sure that the tip is the highest point constantly and that should take care of that problem. I learned this the hard way while watching a movie and laying down on my back on the couch.

Fluid in the mouth is not a big deal as long as you aren't swallowing loads of it. I will often drip a juice on my finger (1 drop) and lick it off to taste other peoples juices. You don't have to like rinse your mouth out and call poison control over 1 drop. That's not to say wake up in the morning and take a swig of your juice for a nic kick lol.

The PG/VG is one way to adjust the TH. Higher PG stronger TH. 100% VG has almost no TH IMO. I'm a 50/50 Kind of guy. Also like you prob tried lowering the voltage will decrease the TH but also produce less vapor. The other thing that I know of is the Nicotine content will effect the TH. At 10 cigs a day 6mg or 12 tops I would reccomend anyways. Don't want to inadvertantly ramp up the nic cravings lol. As for me? I like my nic and my habit/hobby now. I don't intend on trying to ween myself off. I'm happy maintaining.

Don't worry about those 9 cigs. Think of the ones you DIDN'T smoke. As far as I'm concerned every single analog that you don't smoke is a VICTORY!!! Be proud of yourself. 1 thing I can suggest to help with the craving is vape more often. With a cig you get that instant kick. With vaping it kind of has to build up. If you would normally smoke like 2 or 3 times an hour than try vaping 4-6 times an hour as an example.

Hope all this helps and continue with your updates. Soon there will be a day that you smoke no analogs and you will not care to either.

Happy vaping and good luck!

I completely understand what you are saying! The first time I tried to quit, I used one of the first generations of ecig and it did not work for me at all. I didn't want to quit and I found everything I could wrong with it. This time, I had been smoking at least a pack if not two packs on some days and I still didn't want to quit. I just knew it was time. My husband and I got our kits together and he got off cigarettes so fast! I was jealous but still didn't want to give it up. Then I heard him talking to someone who was asking him if he was smoking. He told this person, "No man, I feel like an idiot if I smoke now! I know it's not the same but I've spent the money so I have got to make this work." So every time I would light up a cigarette, I would run those words through my head. I've been off of cigarettes completely for a little over 8 weeks now. Now I'm addicted to all the vaping flavors and the fact I can lay in bed, watch t.v. and vape....I know it's silly but I love it! I told myself I can smoke anytime I want...if I can think of ONE good valid reason. So far...nothing! For me this was all a mental game and I just had to wave the white flag and give it a chance, even if I didn't really want to. Keep trying, you can do it!!

Definitely make sure you're drinking a lot of water! I always did even before vaping, so I always have water (cept when I have coffee when I get up). I don't wash my mouth out, but I do drink several gulps of water if I get juice in my mouth. Depends on how sensitive you are to it.

Juice all over you from unscrewing the stardust wrong is your vaping baptism!! Welcome!! lol I did the same thing with my vivi once, a whole tank of strawberry pie juice in my lap! I smelled good though! lol I seriously doubt that you've trashed the stardust though. Take it apart, clean it good, maybe even dry burn it. Make sure everything is dry and try again. You probably are, but make sure you put the silicone cap back over the atty head on the top of the metal post. Sorry if this sounds like duhhhhhhhh but we've all done those duhhh things lol

When you said your wife didn't like the th, was it too strong or too weak? If too strong, try cutting down on the nic for her. Higher nic has a real peppery taste, and stronger th. She might also want a bit higher vg, so maybe 50-50

Good on ya for cutting way back!!! Celebrate each success. Both of you are trying and that's is wonderful!!

Day 2 - 7 analogs
Day 3 - 6 analogs (so far)

So I got both packages of the other juices in the mail today, and I was eager to try the new flavors. I finished up what was left in my atty and put some new "Poison" juice flavor in. It was supposed to taste like real tobacco, but ugh, it was just a strong nutty flavor. Not good at all, IMO. So I quickly took a bunch of toots until I thought it was all gone and put back my regular Silver Leaf menthol. But now I can't taste my normal flavor anymore, all I taste is this nutty stuff!

Then I tried adding the new Shamrock mint chocolate flavor. Definitely taste the chocolate, but no mint. And the nutty flavor from before is still there. What a mess.

So I got to thinking - maybe I need to try each of these flavors in a new, clean atty, carto or clearo. Maybe the Poison is not bad at all, but mixed with the residue of the Silver Leaf, it just doesn't go well together.

So, reading over @Debadoo's posts, I cleaned (and fixed) the clearomizer. Seems the silicone cap wasn't sealing against the tip well, that's why it was leaking. I did the full cleaning, and then the dry burn. (Thanks Debadoo.)

Then filled it with brand new Halo Menthol Ice juice, and took a toot. Ugh, not good at all. No mint flavor, more of a burning flavor. So I think that once again, I must have screwed up - maybe I burned the clearo in the cleaning process so bad that it's not the juice that's bad, maybe I overdid the dry burn. I mean, the juice really can't be that bad. Can it? Wish I had an empty bottle so I could empty the juice into it and put some of my silver leaf menthol in. Then I can tell if it's the juice or the clearo. And wish I had a bunch of extra atty's so I could test each flavor on it's own atty. I think that's the only way I'll really know if the flavor is good or not. So I'll just have to vape the other 2 ml or so of juice in the clearo and try my normal juice when it's empty.

So like the newb that I am, I decided to add insult to injury, and added some of the free sample "Cinnamon Strapple" to my already multi-flavored atty. I definitely can taste the cinnamon, but what's with that damn nutty flavor that won't go away all day now?

So off to the store tomorrow I go to get some vodka to clean my atty, which now won't take any of my silver leaf anymore with even a taste close to what it was before. @MaxP, I was going to use the rubbing alcohol like you said, but I watched GrimmGreen clean his 306 atty with Vodka, and I'd rather drink vodka than rubbing alcohol.

Thank God I have the old (hardly used) carto filled with the good ol' Silver Leaf menthol. Yum, that's much better, that's the flavor I'm used to and like. :p

@Max, thanks for the suggestion on not letting the tip be in the lowest position while vaping. Seems like common sense, but since I've been keeping the tip higher than the end, I haven't had the leaking problem, so I guess that must be what I was doing.

@VanillaFreak - 8 weeks is awesome! I know what you mean about being able to vape while watching TV, lying in bed, etc. It's awesome! My wife has made me smoke outside for the past 18 years (since our first kid) and it sure gets hot in the day and cold at night. Now I can vape indoors, and I'm loving that! Shivering while you smoke outside makes you feel like a true drug addict, doesn't it?

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to test different flavors without having to clean or use a new atty, carto or tank? Just in case there's a better way, I'd like to know.

BTW, although the wife coughs when she inhales hard, she has been much more successful than me. She's smoked 1 or less analogs each day since we started 3 days ago. I'm guessing that maybe it's easier for a light smoker to make the transition. Or maybe she just has more willpower than me. I'm just glad to see it work for her. She even brought the ego and nova to work with her today, and left the analogs at home!

One more thing - my normal cigarettes definitely taste crappier since I started all of this. That was truly a surprise, even though many of you told me to expect that. So I believe what many of you said - once I find the right setup and liquid, maybe I'll be able to leave the analogs behind permanently! Woot woot!

when you change juices in the atty, are you blowing the old juice out first? Some flavors will just take over an atty and you can't hardly get em clean, but I wouldn't think that bacco flavor would, just not sure. One friend of mine does put her attys in some really hot, maybe even boiling? distilled water with a bit of vinegar in it to get rid of flavors that want to hang on.

Wow that is awesome news about your wife!!!!! WTG Mrs. Pwitte!!!!

Yes, Debadoo, I did blow it out from the threaded end to the tip, got some juice out on the paper towel, but still that darn nutty taste. Very frustrating. GrimmGreen says boiling doesn't work well, that's why he uses Vodka. But it takes 2-3 days using his method. Damn I will miss this atty for those days. Wish I had an extra!

Don't use attys much anymore but a friend of mine uses attys regularly and swears by this method of cleaning. The only diff is he uses Smokers Denture Cleaner. He's been using this method for 8? months.

Good Luck.

The flavor haning around... I have that prob on occasion specially with darker liquids. I've found a huge difference depending on the atty itself. Are you using an atty with a bridge? I.E. When you look down into it do you see a type of wire mesh?? Those types tend to keep flavors around for longer because they sort of hold the juice in em. You can easily de-bridge them with a small flat head screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers. Blowing out the atty is at least 100% more effective on a bridgeless atty. There are videos on youtube that show how to do this. I believe Grimm has one himself just check out his channel or do a search. The process is fairly simple.

I know he uses vodka and i've also heard of everclear etc. I suggested the 99% iso alcy cause it takes considerably less time to evaporate =)

Just after cleaning a carto or atty regardless of what method you use your experience will be less than enjoyable because you basically have to break in the device all over again. I tend to try and make sure i use a bridgeless/de-bridged atty and kind of vape through the mix of flavors when i transition until I can tell what the new flavor tastes like. I vape so much that the transition doesn't take very long 10 mins or less usually up to 30mins for more stuborn flavors (choclates esp).

Common sense is not always so common especially when you are doing something new that you have little to no exp with. Thats the cool thing about it. You can always learn and add new things to your little list of common sensicals (dunno if common sensicals is a technical term or even a real word but it sounds good to me lol).

What's the fun in life if you already new everything and nothing was a challenge. If you never had to adapt or learn anything new? If everything came so easy than we would all pretty much have no reason to live. Also I wouldn't be able to spend time here and help others and get plenty of help with my own issues all at the same time.

Glad to hear you are cutting down on the stinkies. Keep up the good work. So happy for you and the wife.

If I had the money I prob honestly would have one of my preffered atties for each flavor. The problem there is I happen to favor a $20 atty and I have like 20 flavors I like to go through in the period of about a week or so. Typically I take 4 flavors for the day in small bottles and pick them according to how they mix lol. That way when I transition from one to the next I'm not displeased with the flavor until I finally get the clean flavor of the next one lol. Also at least half of my flavors are fruit flavors and they never really taste bad when mixed. In fact i deliberately mix them on occasion depending on my mood, the weather, phase of the moon, or what direction the wind is blowing.

Takes all kinds to make the world go round. Glad you are here to help out!!

I use de-brigged attys for testing new flavors, they do hold a bit of the old flavor, you can vape through the flavor. I noticed many of the tobacco flavors taste nutty, some are better than others.

In my vivis I had real bad flavor stick, and the burned taste after using some flavors, chocolate would gunk up the coil. Frequent head coil changes in my vivis forced me to look into rebuildables so I could just pull the stuffing and coil and start fresh:). To help with the first few puffs, try adding a heavy drip to the coil in the vivis, it will at least ensure you are getting your new flavor while it wicks up from the bottom. Eventually your new flavor will come through, but you may always have a ghost of the other flavors (maybe this can eventually be a good thing like seasoning a cast iron pan?)

I agree that you should try and de-bridge an atty, just not an expensive one that you like. Next time your order, maybe you should check out one of the rebuidables, there are may out there and you can just pull the coil and wick and replace when you put a bad flavor in. ATM the best flavor device I have is the Phoenix (I just put my first new coil in it, so I can only imagine it when I actually know what I am doing), it was a bit more pricy on the front side, but I don't have to be without an atty now as long as I keep wire and wick in stock.

Its great to hear about your wife, my wife is still 100% on analogs for now.

Keep quitt'n and post'n

I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day Newport for 20 years. Here is what worked for me. I got an Ego twist and another VV the torpedo from Totally wicked. I used the torpedo with an atty for dripping the menthol for really hard times and the twist for all the rest of times during the day. I have not smoked since July 3rd. Good luck! Try something along these lines.

Rebuildable atties are not for everyone. I should be getting a couple in today (waiting on the post man). Especially the pheonix style rebuildable can be hard for those with bad eyesight. The parts are pretty small compared to what they look like in pictures. If you choose to go that route try getting a cheap clone as they seem to perform about the same and cost less. You might also want to invest in one of those table mounted magnifying glasses sort of what a jewler would use. They can be had from hardware stores and even have seen them at wal-mart for a fairly affordable price and may be worth the investment.

I typically wouldnt suggest a RBA (rebuildable atomizer) to someone just starting out. If you have a fair amount of mechanical/electrical aptitude I'm sure you will be able to set them up and use them just fine. After I experiment with my new rebuildables (rainbow v3 and smok genesis style tanks) I will blog about them so look for that if interested in my experiences with those.

Keep us updated on how things are going and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. As always...

Happy Vaping!

At the end of Day 3 - smoked 8 analogs
Day 4 - smoked 8 analogs
Day 5 - smoked 4 analogs (so far, and almost time to turn in for the night)

So here's my update - it is getting harder and harder to smoke real cigarettes. OMG, this is crazy. I actually am not liking the taste of a real smoke anymore! So why do I keep smoking the real ones? I don't want to, but sometimes my body feels like it really needs one. Especially after meals, when I wake up, and after I have gone a long while without vaping (i.e., at work.) I guess I really need my nicotine fix and quick! If I "vape all day", as Bullette says, I can go a long, long time without an analog. :vapor:

So onto all my rookie mistakes & questions, once again.

At the beginning of all this, it was recommended that I buy 2 batteries so I always have a spare, so I did. But I didn't know my wife was going to like vaping so much. So she's got the spare, all day, too. So last night, I'm happily vaping away when my 1000 ego dies. No prob, the wife is asleep, I'll use hers. Two minutes later, her 650 ego dies. Damn. Got to charge them both up at the same time. What looked to be a 4 cigarette day quickly became an 8 cigarette day. So I thought, got to buy some more ego-c twists! I looked online and found a really good deal at a place called Virgin Vapors - and the ego-c twists are on sale @ $17.99 for the 650mAh and $19.99 for the 1000mAh. That sounds like a good price to me, so I bought two more egos (both Stainless Steel 650mAh) so here's a link if anyone else wants to get some spares:

Ego-C Twist | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

While I was there, I got another Vivi Nova tank for myself (since the wife confiscated the other one) and a 15 pack of Boge LR cartos that I plan to test the new flavors in - one flavor per carto with no mixing (thx for the tip, @SimboSlice.) To make sure I give them a fare shake, I'll try my trusty Silver Leaf menthol in one of the cartos first to make sure the taste is fairly accurate to what I am used to. I also bought a few miscellaneous items, too.

I also went back to Puresmoker.com and ordered some more SLM flavor. (Man, they ship quick and taste good, but their bottles are hard to use.) So I spent about $140 more today (so far.) Damn, I thought I'd save money if I quit smoking.

I'm in the process of cleaning my atty (waiting for it to dry overnight) so I can get back to my preferred vaping method. Been using the dual coil carto all day, and it's ok, but not nearly as nice as the atty. So I figured I need some more 306 atty's, but after reading @MaxP's and @Hydrophoid's de-bridged recommendation, I decided not to try it on my own because (1) my eyes suck and I will probably mess it up, and (2) I will almost definitely mess it up, and (3) okay, I WILL DEFINITELY MESS IT UP. So I started looking on my own, and found these:

AERO 306 Bridgeless Atomizer - Avid Vaper

and

GoodSense Vapor - GSV306

Now from what I read on these boards and on some vendor sites, it looks like it's not a good idea to use the 306 LR atty higher than 3.7V. Apparently, doing so "may greatly reduce the life of your ego battery." So the first link, at 1.5ohm, may not be the best for me. I like to vape at about 4.0V - 4.2V. Plus, it's a bit pricey. The second link has the option of 1.5ohm or 2.0ohm, which they say "works amazingly well with a VV device!!" So I'm thinking about picking up some of those at 2.0ohm. BUT, I always believe that you get what you pay for, and since they are half the price of the others, maybe they're not as good? Does anyone have any opinions about this? And is using one of these just as good as if I de-bridged one myself? What about the 1.5 vs 2.0 ohms?

As far as Mr. Vision Clearo Ver.3, I am not happy with that dude. Once again, it just crapped out and now won't even make a gurgling sound anymore. So I'm stuck with Mr. Dual Coil Carto until Mr. Atty is dry and Mr. Vivi (for driving) arrives in the mail. But I definitely need some friends for Mr. Atty, so I will await your responses to my "de-bridged" question above before placing that order.

On another subject, I really don't like how the Vivi tank sits on the ego. It's just a breakage waiting to happen. I really liked the product in the comment above from @Yves as follows:

If you do buy one then you will most likely want a collar for it that makes your battery look nice Like this the C is for the 3.5 ml tank and the D is for the 2.0 ml tank you will find them at other vendors, this was the clearest picture I could find for you to see. This just covers the treads on the battery and gives the tank a little support on your battery. eGo Steel Sleeve Cone (Type C / Type D) [F-D7 DC TypeCD] - $2.50 : Healthcabin Electronic Cigarettes - Wholesale and Retail

They also have a cool looking battery that I kind of like, not VV, but it says 4.2V so I thinking that would be good for me anyway:

Engraved eGo K 900mAh Battery

But that company is in China, so I'm not sure about ordering from them. Like how long would it take to get, will I get genuine merchandise or cheap copies, what if the stuff is DOA or quits after a day (expensive to return to China, right?), etc. So I looked around and found that LiteCigUSA has similar products to the sleeve collar, but I'm not sure if it would work with my Vivi Nova tanks, since they are made for DCT tanks. Here's the links:

EGO Stainless Steel 3.5ml DCT Tank Cone

EGO Stainless Steel 5ml DCT Tank Cone

So if anyone has any clue if these would work, or better yet, if you know where I can get sleeve cones made for the Vivi Nova here in the USA, please let me know.

Also, I was browsing the many posts and pics here on the e-cigarette forum and noticed a cool looking skull drip tip:

GotVapes SKULL Drip Tip 510 - GOLD [gv-SKULLDripTip-GOLD] - $7.25 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Would this work on my 306 atty? If not, does anyone know of any other cool looking drip tips like these for the 306? Or even that one - is it possible to use with my nova - maybe with some sort of adapter? I bet there are a bunch out there, not really important, just thought it might be fun to have one.

So, another update: I found a store that just opened in the SF valley of Los Angeles. Now I've read reviews of their other store (on Westwood Blvd. in L.A.) that they're expensive, etc., but I figure I will go check them out soon and try some of their flavors.:vapor:

That could save me a ton of money on buying all these sample vapor packs, even if their vapors are a bit much. And @$1.00 per ml (I've read), that's not too bad anyways. If you know them and have an opinion, let me know, but I'm going their no matter what - I'm glad to find a local B&M store to check out stuff in person. Here's the link for other Valley girls and dude like me:

Lastly for the night (you're not really still reading all of this, are you?), I was at Best Buy today looking at TV's (our main TV crapped out last week ) and outside the store I saw two employees smoking those funny looking white things :smokie:, what do you call them, oh yea, cigarettes, and I was tempted to go up to them and say, "Hey dudes, you need to get yourself one of these" and whip out my 12" long ego twist/carto. Yea, having 12" in my pocket makes me feel manly! But yes, I'm still a novice and not yet off those damn analogs myself, so I'll keep my mouth shut until I can tell them "it worked for me!"
