I heard this joke a long time ago and could not pass it up. When I first heard it, it was about a drunk that was passed out and eventually woke up.
I do hope your sense of smell gets to more normal and I hope you get a laugh out of this.

The Whole World Stinks!
I love the story about grandpa and the limburger cheese. It seems that a couple of mischievous boys wanted to play a joke on grandpa, so while he napped, they rubbed some limburger cheese in his mustache. When grandpa awoke, he sniffed a little bit and said "It stinks in here!" He arose from his favorite chair in the living room and walked into the kitchen. As he sniffed around he declared: "It stinks in here too!" Leaving the kitchen, he walked into the hallway that led to his front door. Sure enough, as he sniffed, he muttered "it even stinks in here!" Flinging the front door open, he took a breath of what he expected to be fresh air. But once again the limburger cheese filled his nostrils, and grandpa shouted in disgust: "The whole world stinks!"

You are not alone. I can smell people's body odor and it's (ironically) especially bad when a smoker passes by me. Even if it's been a while since their last smoke. Like everyone already pretty much suggested, I have a variety of air fresheners everywhere. Candles, sprays, oils, incences...in my car alone I have about 5 or 6. (In every vent and under the seats.)

Other tips: Clean your house even if it's already clean. Furniture, fabrics, and even walls and woods absorb odors. Use a safe deodorizing agent, like vinegar. It's good for getting rid of odors and is cheap and all natural. I sometimes use an upholstry cleaner like Woolite, and carpet deodorizer too.

Adeline is on to something too. Baking soda absorbs odors in the air which is why it's used in refridgerators.

Yeh, I've done most of that. I'm fortunate in that I have hard floors and leather furniture. The only thing I haven't done is walls as they're vaulted and I'm getting up there in years and getting up there on a ladder has never been my forte  but I have painted frames, doors, etc.. anything I can reach on a stool or short step ladder. I think the smells are more about trash, pup pads, even bedding and pillows. I used to only wash spreads and pillows once a month and now its every week. I laid on the couch the other day and the smell of the throw pillow bothered me and it was washed a month ago. I don't think I ever washed those before but just threw them out and got new ones to change up looks. Also, we are rural and the smells that come in even with windows closed sometimes nearly gags me and I used to enjoy having the windows open. Oh, well, its an adjustment and I'm sure, in time, I will make it.

Thank you everyone for your great input. Its helped to know I'm not alone in this and I've written down some really good tips. I'm know I'm going to be shopping for the most fragrant candles I can find this weekend... and some of those decorative gel type things to set next to me.

Eventually you'll get used to it, I did. I went through like you did and washed all of my already clean launderables, and it helped freshen things up. A trick I learned from my sister...dryer sheets help too! Stick 'em in your trash cans underneath the liners, in your clothes drawers, use them to dust, they are antistatic so they pick up dust on your picture frames and what-not...
