Last night I was at my sister's and went out on her deck to vape (I'm the only "smoker" in my big family and they've been on my case for years to quit). She came out to ask me about it and then said "Can you do it inside?" and I said "If it doesn't bug you guys" and she said "no, come on in...Hey Brian (her husband) come and look at this!!" And everyone came to sniff me! lol.

They thought it was very cool and said everyone will smoke like that in the future...which begain the FDA conversation ((sigh)) We all work with the FDA in one way or another, me in medical device manufacture, she in a surgery office, another sister as a surgeon's assistant...and frequently talk about our frustrations with that agency.

@Karen

where did you read this? I've been searching months before I bought my first e-cig, which was only a few days ago. ('m officially a full-blown 100% vaper!). I never really found any news about ecigs having any kind of smell. My husband's a non-smoker and he was happy that the house doesn't stink anymore. My cousin has asthma and she was in the hospital for a few times. They gave her some kind of a nebulizer that had some steam in it. I could smell it and that's exactly the same smell as the e-cigs. (at least, my opinion)......

I just wanted to post a little about my personal experiences.

We have several friends in our circle who are either non-smokers or former smokers. My DH and I have been heavy smokers for many many years, so yes, our home, our vehicles and our persons have reeked of smoking for a long long time. Our friends and family have not ever complained when in our home as it is our home, but we began to notice over the years that they seemed to come to our house less and less often. Most of the gatherings took place in their homes, where smoking is only allowed outside, which of course is their right in their home.

Since we started vaping, me all the time, him most of the time, we have begun to be invited to join in more and more activities, and our friends and family have become more frequent visitors.

I spent a lot time and effort defunking our home the best I could, cleaning carpets, washing walls, cleaning furniture and even laundering all the clothing in drawers and closets.

Now to get to the point of this thread, I have begged those we are often with to tell me if they ever ever notice any offensive order from the vapor, and they have ALL said none at all. Some have admitted to a faint fruity smell which they mostly find pleasant, like a candle or air freshener scent, and this does not seem to linger.

There are a couple of those in the group who have very sensitive sense of smell, like they can tell if one of us changes laundry detergent, and yet they do not complain, even behind our back. I have some I am very close to who have promised to let me know if anyone is offended but hesitant to tell us.

Now that my sense of smell (and taste) is improving, I sometimes detect a slight smell, but I use mostly the sweet flavors and like them, I detect only a slight fruity smell.

I cannot see why anyone would complain about the slight slight odor of vapor as opposed to the stench of regular cigarettes. No one who is really worth considering anyway. Those who go so far as to find that faint, short-lived scent to be offensive are just looking for something to complain about, IMHO.

My clothes smell better, my home and car smell better, heck, even my dog smells better. Is there some faint scent left briefly in the air after I vape heavily? Maybe, but it does not linger long and does NOT penetrate everything in my proximity, so I can live with that.

I could tell many many anecdotal stories about experiences I have had in public, and tests I have done in many areas, but this is not the time or place.

Vape on, and feel blessed that you have an option to the strong, long lasting stench of analogs.

If the health nazis can't complain about smoke smell, they will complain about vapor smell, whether there is any or not. It's just the nature of the beast.

They see what they think is smoke and start borchering.

Agree Fiddler----nest think they will complain about is the smell of homemade cookies!!!----------Sun

Karen, there will always be some outspoken individuals that will associate "smoke" with smoking. These are the people that would "cough" or say rude comments when they walked past you when you were smoking in your designated smoking area outside in the wind and rain. Some of them would launch into lectures on how you were killing yourself, your co-workers, and your children. Once launched into a tirade, they have to be right, so even when they get close enough to you to notice that there really isn't a smell (or if there is - a pleasant one), they cannot admit to being wrong so they'll try to save face and say it stinks like a real cigarette.

In my experience, best thing you can do at that point is say nothing, nod your head, and ignore them if possible.

Please note that these occasions happen extremely rarely, but are completely unavoidable when they do. You can't win there.

Aside from that, 99.99% of the people I've spoken with and talked about the e-cig will actually ask me to either blow it in their face, or simply congratulate me on making the switch.

On another note: The one flavor that really put out a scent that everyone noticed was one of my DIY favorites - Vanilla Butternut (got the flavor from Loranns). OMG - everybody wanted that candy, and couldn't believe it was coming from my vaporizer. Even my doctor said I could vape in his office after my vitals were taken.
