I agree, I think if you vape 0mg for 3 days prior to surgery and drink lots of fluids to flush the nicotine out of your system you will be fine! Might want to get a pack of 11mg, 8mg, 4mg, then a few packs of 0mg. Vape the 11 for a few days, the 8 for a few, the 4 a few then stick to 0's for 3 days prior to surgery and you should be fine.

That is an odd request....I have never heard of not doing surg with nicotine in the system.....I know there are a few surgs that require no "smoking" before hand, but that really has more to do with the smoke and carbon monoxide in the system, not the nicotine....and that is due to the O2 receptors on the blood cells being blocked........but.....I'll give another +1 to JenJen's recommendations:laugh:

Just to play the devil's advocate here, Why not be totally on the safe side here and Not even use an E-cig? I was under the assumption that all E-Cigs had Nicotine products in them to some degree. Then I was reading on V4L's web site about the Nobacco Juices that I have been using ever since I got my kit. This is what I read:

There are three basic ingredients in our Nobacco Juice. The first ingredient is Propylene Glycol which is considered safe by the FDA as a food additive. The second ingredient is nicotine, which is completely optional. All of our liquids are available with various strengths of nicotine and are also available completely nicotine free. The third ingredient in our Nobacco Juice is food grade flavoring. PLEASE NOTE: Nicotine is extremely addictive and is intended for adults only! Also please handle all Nobacco Juice with care. Keep it out of reach of children and pets, as even a small amount of nicotine is potentially toxic.

Your Doctor has made a specific Request or better yet Requirement. He must have a Good Reason to say what he did. So, if it was me, I think I would follow his judgement! I know it would pretty much kill me to not be able to get my little fix that vaping gives me, but if it came down to maybe saving my life I bet I would be glad! You can always start vaping after the surgery is completed!

I never have been very smart about following doctors orders when it came to quitting smoking, but the older I get, the more I am seeing the damage I did to myself and the more I want to protect the health that I have. So, I'm not really the person to be preaching! I just wanted to present another side to the debate.

GPR...the 0mg has NO nicotine....just vg/pg and flavoring.

Now...here is where I am questioning his request...there is nicotine in some foods as well....did he give a list as to which foods to avoid so there is ABSOLUTELY NO nicotine in the system.

THanks for all the replies. To get a little personal here the surgery would be for weight loss maybe gastric bypass or lapband surgeries. well everything I've read to learn everything about these two is you can't be a smoker well I'm glad to say I'm no longer a smoker but they say some docs will do a nicotene test to prove it .

Was thinking the same thing Ms. Keelalagirl, no tomatoes, potatoes, egg plant, list goes on...

Yep. GPR, you put waaaaay too much trust in doctors' actual scientific knowledge and wisdom. This surgeon is basically just being an anti-smoker nazi, who doesn't trust or want to deal with "smoker" patients even if they're using BigPharma nic replacements.

His bible is the JAMA rag, and his kind are Legion.

Ms. Brklyncat that's a lie, my mother in law had the same surgery and she still smokes...

Again, yep.

The problem is, Bklyncat is basically a hostage of this doc (if she really wants this surgery), and his attitude is becoming increasingly prevalent among physicians (especially surgeons, for now). Heck, at Kansas University Medical Center they run TV ads actually bragging about how they refuse to treat smokers (i.e., do back surgery) unless they first quit.

"Are you in crippling pain? Aww. But you still smoke or 'use' nicotine? Tough cookies."

:evil::evil: Bastiges.

There are other tests they can run to show you are not smoking....it doesn't have to be the nicotine test;) I had a feeling it was smoking related and not so much nicotine use.....I have always been of mind that...docs....ALL docs are employed by me...I pay THEM to do a service FOR ME....if they don't want my business, there is another doc that will be more than happy to take my money!

I like that statement keelalagirl, great way to look at things.

Aren't doctors supposed to treat all patients fairly and just? I understand the risks associated with smoking however can they tell us what to or not to do? Isn't it their profession to help us save our lives?

Does the doctor know the nicotine is from an e cig and not smoking? To me it seems they just want you to stop "smoking".

Like above stated someone will take your money if this one does not want to.

Not knowing what the surgery is for only from your discription which I am assuming is for loosing weight....there are other ways to loose weight then to go that drastic route (not knowing the details behind the surgery).

If it were me, I would decide how bad I wanted the surgery (if its a choice) to loose weight. If I decided on the surgery and decided to go to this doctor, and this doctor said no nicotine even from e-cigs, my decision would out weigh my want to use e cigs and I would have to quit 'till surgery is over.

If my desire to use e-cigs was so great and it was a choice to get the surgery to loose weight, I would continue to use e-cigs and go about loosing weight in another way (if it were possible with not knowing the details) where I could vape 'till my heart was content.

This is just me making a comment not knowing details and commenting soley on your information provided. Sign here ______________ that you have read this disclaimer and will not hold me responsible for any adverse outcome :)
