Help - Will partner know?

Now, to be clear, I won't be lying to him. But my partner hates the smell of smoke, hates the taste of smoke, hates the idea even. He's okay with me vaping, but wants me to avoid doing it around him (which I can understand and respect).

So my question is, if I vape outside, on my way home, to and from work, etc - will he still be able to detect any sort of unpleasant smell or taste from me? Even days after I smoke an actual cig, he says he my "throat smells like cigarette smoke." I know that sounds crazy, but I've always said he has the nose of a pregnant woman.

So - will he be able to tell? And if so, any suggestions on least objectionable eliquids? :)

Sometimes i can smell it on myself even if i havnt vaped in an hour or so, so i guess some smells will linger. But i vape mostly fruity or sweet stuff so i don't mind smelling good. He will probably smell it every once in a while, but even the tobacco flavors don't really smell bad, so i cant see him complaining or minding..

I'd guess not to a large degree, although if you vape in a room and he walks in shortly after he'll definitely be able to smell it, and it will probably make your clothes smell somewhat (although in a much nicer way than cigarettes :) )

It's far too dependent on the liquid chosen and his sense of smell to give a blanket answer.

Assume he as the sense of smell of a freaking CIA agent ninja for a smell-design company. :p

Can you recall any that you've used that have a particularly weak smell? :)

It really is impossible to say, sorry :(

For one thing, in much the same way as smokers can't really smell smoke, vapers are unlikely to smell their own liquid.

Also, there's such a wide variation in sensitivities to particular smells. I used to feel physically sick if someone opened a jar of Marmite in the same room as me. Now I eat it by the spoonful :)

I'd just buy a variety of liquids, and not jump between them too quickly. You should be able quite quickly to identify any he can't stand.

I vape in my car and in my office at work. There is a bit of a residual smell sometimes. It's not smoke, I believe it is the result of condensation on tabletops and such. However, coworkers will mention that my office does have a caramel smell (I tend to vape those types of eliquids). I've even had one coworker say my office smelled "wonderful".

So, typically any residual odor will generally be pleasant, unlike cigarette/cigar smoke!

On clothes, I've never had anybody comment on residual smell.

Fair enough :)

Last question! Do you find that the vapor actually smells like what it tastes like? Especially the lingering smell - like, if I vape something thats, say, green apple flavored... will he smell green apple on me/my face and skin etc later, or does it smell different? Or just depends on the liquid?

I'd say mostly yes.

With the proviso that the variation between one company's green apple and another's can be absolutely huge - from perfumy, to bubble-gum, to natural.

There are *a few* liquids that I've heard people describe as tasting great, but leaving an unpleasant lingering smell, but it doesn't happen often.

Also, keep the liquids well stored - away from heat, for example, and if he's particularly sensitive probably best in a sealed box. Racehorse (a member here) has a story about leaving some banana liquid in a friend's car while it was hot, and them coming back to the car and finding it stank. I think it was even unopened, but I'm not sure.

I'm mostly concerned about smells lingering on ME - when I smoke actual cigarettes, he says that the back of my throat smells like cigarette smoke. Weird, I know, but that's how he describes it.

So even the tobacco liquids tend not to smell like actual tobacco to outsiders, but more just sweet?

There is a distinct difference between the smell of tobacco and tobacco e-liquids and the smell of burning cigarettes. They're not even close. Tobacco by itself has a pleasing (or at least pleasant, to me) scent where cigarettes are just nasty. I don't know anyone, smokers or non, who think they smell good.

fair enough. So the eliquids, even after vaped and lingering in ones hair/throat/whatever will smell much closer to the sweet "cigar room" type smell, is what I'm hearing?

I'd say it's more like room freshener, honestly - but then I mostly vape fruit.

Sometimes I open my 'vape drawer' just to have a sniff :D (I kinda wish I was joking, but I'm not...)
